Use the map, M on your keyboard, it shows trajectories and such, really useful for getting a good orbit going

i\'m pretty new to KSP, only about 8 hours of play time and a few hours of forum lurking, so far i\'ve only managed a few stable orbits and some fairly unstable planes using C7\'s aviation pack but i\'m really looking forward to seeing how far i can take these little kerbals. cheers
