  1. I set the res down to 1280x720 just to be safe to avoid a GPU bottleneck when testing cpu performance but i don't think it matters a lot, KSP isn't that graphic power hungry.
  2. Hi riocrokite, now finally i have my new Computer complete with i5-7600K overclocked to 4.8GHz and 16GB DDR4 RAM @ 2993MHz and a GTX 1060 6GB GPU. I run this Benchmark and recorded fps and frametime with fraps, would you like to take my data and process it in exactly the same way like your Ryzen benchmark and create a chart so that we can compare the results? I think it was a good run, initial fps on the Launchpad where at ~55fps, after launch the first 100sec into the flight it went smooth with around 30fps and only a few drops to 20fps when staging, after 100sec the fps increases to >100fps. Greetings, Gerry
  3. Isn't there any possibility to remove this stupid "can't extend/deploy/activate ... while stowed" function? I googled this issue and it seems it cause many problems but i find no useful workaround to remove this. Please help
  4. Just landet a probe on Duna and can't transmit science because i can't extend the antenna and solar panels because they are "stowed", but nothing covering the parts. The Probe was protectet by a stock heatshield and an airshell build from Procedural Parts interstage fairing. And a realchutes parachute. What going on there? How can a fix it?
  5. Yes, i`m going to take this unlocked i5 with an ASRock Z270 Pro4 mainbord and an EKL Alpenföhn Olymp cpu cooler. It should go up to 4.8 GHz or 4.9 GHz. Just searched on curse forge "cpu performace" and et voila, there it is: https://kerbal.curseforge.com/projects/cpu-performance-rocket-stock?gameCategorySlug=shareables&projectID=220893
  6. Yeah, i'm thinking i'll take the i5 7600k. Dual core, even with Hypertreading, seems getting old, and it's only 70 bucks under the native quad core.
  7. I run this benchmark on a 1.2.2 clean install with my Laptop Lenovo Z50-70 with Intel Core i5-4210u. Isn`t it possible to upload the jpg spreadsheet here in this forums? The performance on this low power cpu is quite bad. It runs at launch with ~13fps and drops to <5fps when staging. Surprisingly at about 100 secs into the flight the fps goes down to ~10fps even though the rocket`s part count is much less while at launch. It seems the high speed cause a lot of heating and aerodynamic pressure and this needs a lot of performace from the cpu. Sadly i can`t prevent the rocket flips over at a high of about 50 km. The hardware monitor from Windows 10 and a third party program shows cpu workload only 40% at the beginning and goes up to 60% after a few staging events when obviously in a cpu bottleneck the whole time (graphic setting 1280x720 at low details, the GeForce 840m is bored during the benchmark to prevent bottleneck from this side). The cpu is a 2c/4t and KSP seems to use indeed only one core/thread for one vessel. After staging there are a lot of debris and the cpu workload increases so it seems the debris calculation make use of another core/thread. I planning to build a Computer to get better performance a KSP and as cpu i going to take the i3-7350k or the i5-7600k and overclock it, it should be one of the highest possible single core performaces that is currently available. If the time is come i will run this benchmark again
  8. The new mainboards for the Intel Kaby Lake CPU generation supports afaik only DDR4 RAM. How much effect have dual channel RAM? Because, if 8 GB is enough for the beginning, i would buy only one 8 GB bar and update later with a second bar, but havent dual channel at the start.
  9. Yes, currently the new Ryzen shows not to compare performace in appliaction benchmarks with gaming performce. btw, how much RAM to you recommend with a heavily modded KSP running, 16 GB should be enough?
  10. That sounds like a good idea to restart KSP if its runs chobby, in the older days the game was crashing very often so the restart was inevitably but now the newer versions runs stable so i can play it continuous for hours and dont think about restarting it Thank you, this is what i have searched in vain! Yes this sounds reasonable, i read this tip in many purches advises in a german computer forum. The G4560 has a superb price-performace ratio and it wont hurt to replace this cheap CPU in the future. But, the G4560 has 2004 quite good single thread performace at passmark benchmark, the US$170 i3-7350k leads the chart with 2625. I wonder how noticeable this effects KSP performce hmmm.
  11. Ok that sounds good. The i3-7350k, chipset Z270 ASRock mainboard and a appropriate fan cost around 350€ in my country, so it´s slightly over my bugdet, but if its worth it than i forget the additional 50€
  12. Yes and it can be overclocked what may increase the single thread performance around 10%. The question is wether this 2c/4t CPU is future oriented if someday KSP will benefit more frome more threads, gaming engines like Unity development goes to more cores?
  13. Hi Deddly, thanks for th welcome Ok, so it looks like that a high clocked i3 oder i5 has the best value for KSP. EDIT: The laptop is 2 years old, Iopened it last summer to replace the HDD with a SDD and tryed to remove the dust, but it seems there was not so much of it. But thanks for this tip, i think its worth to try this again.
  14. I planning to build a new computer and wonder what inexpensive CPU should i buy that fits the needs of (modded) Kerbal Space Program. It seems the game needs a strong CPU, but what ist better, more cores (i.e. like the upcoming 6c/12t new AMD Ryzen R5) or less cores at higher clock speed like the i3-7350k OC? Maybe an overclocked i7-7700k is the optimum, but this CPU with good mainboard and cooling solution is out of reach from my budget for the computer. CPU and mainboard should not be much more then 300€. And what graphic card you recommend for KSP with mods like Real Solarsystem and EVE, is an RX-460 4GB enough or will a more expensive graphic card benefit? Currently i am playing KSP on my laptop mith a low power CPU i5-4210u and GeForce 840m 2GB. Launching a vessel with more than 100 parts becomes catastrophic and the framerate goes down in the region of 5 fps, the cooling fans in my laptop howls but cant prevent that the CPU reaches a temperatur of >90° celcius
  15. Have the same Issue, Even worse, it's a contrac rescue mission and the poor kerbal is stuck in the Mk1 pod, can't get him to EVA to the rescue ship I will try to ram the Mk1 and rotate the pod that the hatch facing Kerbin, if that doesn't work i uninstall RealPlum. I was desperate to cancel this contract and let the poor kerbal left to his destiny, but know i found this, so glad about it
