  1. I've logged on to these forums and played the game before, but it's been quite some time and I think I'd better reintroduce myself. I figured today that I'd brush the dust off the ol' Kerbal Space Program and start doing some rocket science! I never got farther than a couple marginally successful Duna missions, but I can already tell so much has changed! I'm getting the Kerbal itch back and going back into the fray. Wish me luck!
  2. O_O This changes everything! I must alert the President!
  3. Lots of really good information here! Thanks for the help! Looking at some of the equations, I think I need to pick calculus back up again. Something to give the brain a workout though. Should be fun!
  4. I've got a couple little questions. I'm sure they're probably under the category of "duh" for many people here, but I'm pretty new the the Kerbal community. The questions are as follows: I've seen pictures here and there of boats made within KSP and am trying to figure out if there are any particular mods necessary to make most of these creations? I'm planning to make various craft for exploring planets with oceans on them and exploring boats as an option seems like an avenue definitely worth looking into. Second, I've been planning to make a UAV using stock materials to explore Eve. That is until I learned that the atmosphere, while thick, does not contain the oxygen necessary for combustion and rendering jets useless. I had the idea to modify the existing UAV into a prop plane powered with electric motors (or something similar) I wondered what mods out there might support a build like this. Lastly, I'd like to do some of the number crunching gain a better knowledge of rocketry in general. Especially as it applies to KSP. What are some recommended resources that I could look into?
  5. I'm still working on my first station, but I'm going for the flying gas station angle. Just seems to make a whole lot of sense. (Though as I discovered, getting a full sized rocket to rendezvous with the station can be tricky.)
  6. Well, compared to the amazing machines I'm seeing it doesn't stack up, but I'd like to submit my Triton VII. I'm fairly new and haven't nearly mastered the game, but I take a lot of pride in the latest in my (unfortunately) soon to be retired Triton series. This rocket, inspired by space-race era craft, has proven to be versatile and capable and has been the vessel of choice for many of my Minmus and Mun missions. If in no one else's, it's rep worthy in my eyes.
  7. I've been playing Kerbal Space Program pretty solidly for about a month now and I am absolutely loving the game. A simulator that appeals to a fascination with space and rocketry as well as making the subject accessible without dumbing it down struck just the right chord with me. I guess a solid way to introduce myself within the context of this game is to talk about what I've done and what I hope to do with later missions. Though I didn't know much about orbital mechanics and rockets going into the game, I like to think I've learned a lot (Thanks, Scott Manley!) and plan to learn a lot more in order to reach ever more distant planets. I've got a list accomplishments under my belt including several successful Minmus and Mun landings, multiple successful lines of rockets, gathered data from a probe passing through Eve's SoI, learned how to perform a basic orbital rendezvous, and I am working on construction of a refueling station orbiting Kerbin. There is so much I plan to do in the future. For now, I'd love to land a rover on the Mun, successfully orbit and land on Duna, and complete my refueling station. That station would do so much to boost the lifespan of my trusty Triton line of rockets! Anyhow, I hope to become a member of the community and talk with you about everything related to traveling among the stars.
