what the heck inspired this , good job on it regardless. Definitely original
-
I always liked this craft from ww2. I feel it needs more thrust to emulate the real thing. Although that may prove difficult in kerbal while keeping the aesthetic spot on. Cool craft, i might work on the back end for myself
-
Another great replica. still like the f-22 better but this one is still quite awesome.
-
sic little rover, love the suspension. probably will use next time i want to put a rover on another planet.
-
Very fast jet And i tested it out. really not that hard to control. One suggestion is maybe some control surfaces for yaw.

One of the two variants of this updated craft file is a direct upgrade over the original craft, Argentus. "X1a" is an atmospheric only non space plane. It has a lower part count with the same TWR and keeps the high maneuverability of the original. The aesthetics have also been upgraded (in my opinion). "X1s" ("s" for space plane) is the space plane variant capable of doing a land and return mission to Mun with out refueling and with only one stage. To make landing easier on Mun or Minmus i have added landing rockets. Just be careful as these rockets burn fuel faster than the atomic engine and can jeopardize a return if used too much. X1s is easy to control at any fuel level and can 'times 4 speed' to orbit. With out SAS engaged the craft likes to slightly pitch up or down depending on fuel level. Got bored and had some fun modifying your craft. This would be the first steps i'd take at making a more capable SSTO. Switched the rapier engine to a jet/atomic combo (use action groups 1 and 2). Did heavy work on the back end to accommodate the new engine configuration. seeing as its heavier the center of lift needed to be shifted back and decided to cluster the intakes in the back while i was at it. Left the front mostly untouched but that would be the next area i'd work on. Just did this rather quickly for fun. Use or discard it if u want. Download Screenshot

Incredible. Looks amazing and actually flies very well in unmodded Kerbal. Fast, agile, lots of fuel, looks great, stock. Definitely envious of this top echelon craft. Reps for you.

The 2nd version of the craft now has space plane capabilities and lots of functional and aesthetic adjustments. The aesthetic air intakes are now more functional by using circular intakes instead of the radial intakes. The Pelican tail has been moved to the bottom of the craft. This allows the rear landing gears to be spread further apart making landing easier on Mun or Minmus. Lift rating has also been increased to accommodate more fuel. And lastly the craft is still quite agile just like the original. If you wish to see the older version the link is below. Action Groups:

1 - Toggle Turbojet Engine 6 - empty

2 - Toggle Atomic Engine 7 - empty

3 - Toggle Landing Rockets 8 - empty

4 - Toggle Parachute 9 - empty

5 - Cut Parachute 10 - Toggle Ladder

Flight Help: Mun The usual space plane procedure. Use the jet engine till 2300 m/s then switch to the atomic engine to achieve orbit. You want to be at around 32,000m altitude to get up to speed with the jet engines. When acheiving Mun orbit reduce the periapsis to around 5-6k meters. When above the surface burn the atomic engines at an angle that mostly cuts horizontal speed while keeping you from smashing into the surface. Takes some practice so i'd suggest quick saving in orbit. To make the craft novice friendly there are 2 landing rockets for VTOL capabilities. When you are down to a sufficiently low speed switching to action group 3 will make landing a breeze. You only want to use the landing rockets for a few seconds as they are inefficient and can jeopardize the fuel requirements for a return to Kerbin. Thanks for the feedback. After quick adjustments to a single atomic engine the control issue at very low fuel becomes manageable. Guess the craft is a bit too butt heavy. Will work on a variant that accommodates the alternate engine configuration as well as move the CoL slightly back. Should fix the control issue completely as well as adding lots of extra DV.

Excess frontal lift makes dodging mountains threw Duna's thin atmosphere easy. Although landing a space plane on Duna is not novice friendly. The thrust to rate ratio of the atomic engines is excellent and will make escaping Duna quick and efficient. v2 update: Fixed uncontrollable flight characteristics while very low on fuel. Should be relatively easy to land on the return to Kerbin. Moved center of lift back a bit and added more Lift to the back section. Added control surfaces to the front to maintain a high pitch ability. Something you want for Duna. Total loss of around 200 m/s delta V to make the craft more controllable. Decided to keep both atomic engines as the Delta V increase was only around 800 m/s. Action Groups:

1 - Toggle Turbojet Engines 6 - Toggle Both Radial Parachutes

2 - Toggle Atomic Engines 7 - Cut Both Radial Parachutes

3 - Toggle Docking Port Shield 8 - Toggle Both XL Parachutes

4 - Toggle All Parachutes 9 - Cut Both XL Parachutes

5 - Cut All Parachutes 10 - Toggle Ladder

Flight Help: Landing on Duna in a traditional plane sense can be difficult. Aim for low flat lands so the parachutes have a strong effect. When your speed has been sufficiently slowed due to air friction point the nose strait up away from Duna and use the atomic engines to control your pitch. You want to be between -5 and 5 on the pitch meter for landing (preferably zero). When you're finally skimming just above the surface, point the nose back to prograde (important) and activate your parachutes. When your velocity drops to 60ish m/s cut your chutes. This all happens quickly so i'd recommend quick saving before hand. Don't forget to repack the parachutes! Super bomber indeed . Although fully loaded my 4670k begs for mercy. Can always remove bombs though so not a negative. can scale it based on your hardware. -
LC Cruiser III 'Eagle' - 15 tons payload to Laythe SSTO
Dook_net replied to manni01's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Very nice SSTO. Even has above .2 TWR (atomics) with the extra 15 tons attached. Looks 'Kraken' proof also. -

Probably been done a thousand times by now but I still felt the urge to share my own design. The Plane has fairly good TWR so a mission wont take all day to complete. The landing gears in the back may be a bit unsightly but do make landing in zero atmosphere a lot easier. They are a aesthetic sacrifice for more functionality. Action group #10 will lower/raise the extended rear landing gears, making take off from Kerbin easier (when raised). I would keep them extended for landing on Mun/Minmus though. Lastly the craft flies like dog **** with out SAS enabled. So this craft is not a good match for those who wish to fly unassisted. Flies fine with SAS though. The craft has forward swept wings, a pelican tail, and the wing sections are connected from the bottom up giving the craft a unique look. The craft's yaw controls are awkward at best due to the control surfaces on the forward swept wings. Although the craft flies well enough, admittedly its not the best flying experience due to some of the design choices. I may give the pelican tail another chance in a future craft but definitely not the forward swept wings. Atmospheric only - no space plane capabilities. Spaceplane X2s Paradisaea - SSTO to Laythe and back
Dook_net replied to Dook_net's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
I own photoshop so i just slapped 4 action shots together and gave it a really quick border. To make the image link i just click and dragged to highlight the image and then pressed "insert link". -
Stats: part count: 254 mass - 31,401kg TWR atomic engine - .19 DV atomic engine full fuel - 5,340 DV atomic engine minus excess jet fuel - 6,193 TWR turbojet engines - .81 This craft can do a land and return mission to Laythe with out refueling. The delta v constraints don't leave too much room for sloppy transfers though. I attempted to do my best at designing the wings to be 'kraken proof' as i find spiffy looking jet aircraft tend to fly apart in space. The craft has an excess of 600 liquid fuel so if you try this craft burn most of that up before leaving Laythe. The docking port is untested and may need a special extended connector on the refueling craft to reach it. Lastly, the craft may require the entire runway to take off on Kerbin but by the time it gets to Laythe it will be light enough to have no issues getting off the ground.
