  1. Lasers in space combat can be very effective. On earth the atmosphere absorbs many frequencies of light, in space this isn't a problem and in fact we can have almost any wavelength letting us pick the most powerful and efficient laser for combat. For example a Hydrogen fluoride laser which burns ethylene and nitrogen trifluoride inside a light cavity can output megawatts of light easily, it can't be used on earth as the atmosphere adsorbs that frequency of light very well, it also has the advantage in that you can dump waste heat away into space along wit the now useless reaction produced. Railguns and coilguns are nice but there huge power hogs and produce lots of waste heat.
  2. I've seen many people say that the current science is to easy. Which is true, but only because we have infinite budget to spent. 0.24 will come with that extra limiting factor, as you can no longer just build huge and/or expensive rockets ,the default cost of the stock nuke engine is 8000 as compared to the mainsail 850, and interstellar part will definitely need to cost a lot more (currently some interstellar part have yet to get cost values but will need to for 0.24). You will have to earn money to run your space program or you'll find that that Moho mission running sort on fuel. For my current save I'm not using the interstellar science lab to get science as it becomes too easy, just get some smart kerbals on Moho, timewarp and your done.
  3. Is there any compatibility with the Krag's factory mod? If not is there a config file I can edit to add magnetic fields around these planets, resources and science?

What if you set priority levels for each target, with the highest level being the first place to target and more onto the second if the highest priorrity fails to connect, and keep going until the list has run out, after which point the signal is lost and the saterlite keeps checking the list for a connection. To stop people from just setting all their comsat on the list, cap the number of max sat on the list and later have it upgrade. Such as at first you only get one possible connection point and later 2 and 3, bepending on if you unlock that tech node.

The space shuttle (STS) would have allow cheaper launch cost, but the USA air force, which gave extra funds and basically make the STS program possible, in return demanded greater cross range (this lets the craft fly more off track from the flight path, this is only useful for the military, as this lets it go up, deploy an object and then drop back down later in a single orbit to a US runway). Secondly the every USA company wanted to make parts for it and each state wanted the parts made in their state, which made construction cost way more expensive. There and several other military and political reason for the increase in cost and I could spent some to writing about them, but in short skylon doesn't ( And hopefully never will) suffer from these problems, as this is company building it, yay for the British companies, if only the USA would give funding to space companies outside the USA. So if complete I fully expect reduced launch cost. I very much hope skylon will get the funding needed to continue their great work.
  6. This challange is all about speed! As is with many kerbal missions, unforseen explosions have left your kerbal on a sub-orbital trajectory around kerbin with no engines and/or no fuel left, and we forgot the jetpacks, of course. So you need to launch a second mission to save the poor kerbal from "not a very nice time". If all goes well your kerbal(s) will be having lots of fun in a safe orbit above kerbin's atmosphere. Odjective: 1) Launch a rocket (must be manned), the apoapsis of this craft can be as high as you like (Lower first apoapsis=higher rank), the periapsis must not come above the ground. 2) Make sure there is no fuel left or no engines, on the ship. (Pictures of ship and apoapsis) 3) Launch a second rocket (can be unmanned or manned) to catch up with the first rocket and dock with it. 4) Once the two have dock use the engines from the second rocket to put both craft in a safe orbit above the atmosphere. Rules: Stock Only No config edits No infiteglide craft If the craft drop below 70km then you have failed. Ranking: If you successfully complete a the mission you score is deterrined by the apoapsis of the first rocket you launched. This is of course becuase you'll have less time to save the target ship.   7. I\'ve made a small modification to the rocket by putting the ASAS on the first stage, remove some fins and very small other changes struts and stuff. But nothing else has change even the flight path is the same as last time. This is for the Bill challange.
  8. This was completely stock parts, the same ship as the first post, so this is the bill challange. First place win!
  9. I wasn\'t getting the best values from the flight result with a straight down flight, so I modified the flight path to increase deccelertaion time. New flight path. Flight results. still not quiet the values I would have calculated.
  10. I don\'t have the flight results I ended the flight before taking the picture, the calculated value of aceleration will be lower than the peak acceleration and you can check the numders by using screenshots 3 and 4, so all thinks consider I guess its fair.
  11. This is my entry for the billy challange, this was done in 13.2, but the physics is still the same. This is my ship. Me getting a good run up. Intial speed just before atmosphere. Yes, it is over 9000! After the worst of the gee force. And safe landing. By using v=u+at where, v=final velocity, u= intial velocity, t=time and a=acceleration. i calculate an averege acceleration of 846.8 m/s^-2.
  12. This is off a mission I did before I know about this challange but its my best. Thats is the faster I\'ve ever travelled. By launching a sunset I didn\'t have to turn the ship around and waste fuel just going staight up. 115436.1m/s. And jeb is loving it, the other guys no so much.
  13. Am I mistaking this \'challenge\' section for the \'I\'ll have a go as long as I dont need to think too hard or put to much effort in\' section? I know its hard thats why I put it here, its a challenge. This is to test poeples abillity to build and fly efficeintly. The lazy opinion is to build bigger. So build more efficiently and try flying better. You can launch a rocket into orbit with only 3 fuel tanks and get it back again safely. I\'ve think that most spacecraft that can travel to and from the Mun can do this challange.
  14. Using only one spacecraft how many times can you reach orbit and land safely. The more times you do it the better. Rules: 1) To get one point you must launch from kerbal into orbit, orbit around the planet at least once and land safely, if you plan to launch again you will need to launch upright. 2) The spacecraft must use the default parts. 3) If you fail to land back on kerbal safely that orbit does not count (safe means that no crew memders died). 4) Your final score is the total number of completed launchs and lands. 5) Get proof of your launchs and landings. Post your scores and evidence.
