Ok I have been looking around here and I neglected to post an intro. Am am the owner of Elfnet Designs & Communications which is a real business that designs IT and communications infrastructure for business & law enforcement all the way down to a single home and hobbyists. Our main focus is wireless data communications so if its a signal that needs to get from point "A" to point "B" we are the people who will do all the math and work to get you a proper system in place to reliably get your data stream wireless-ly to the intended destination whether its point to point or using communications satellites. hell for that matter we can designs birds for LEO or GEO sync or for things more close to home, your land based communications systems using radios and repeaters stations. Now for KSP. Yes we are aware this is a game and its a quite fun game. So I will offer up our services in designing communications systems or constellations for those needing such things. Also we can build up the lifting muscle to get your birds into space in the game. We are not rocket scientists by any means but we are communications and IT professionals.

How much freedom have you brought to the Kerbol System?
elfnet replied to TheBobWiley's topic in KSP Fan Works
Absolutely none brought on by me because this is a game and has no real world implications outside of my credit card statement when I bought the game. This thread though interesting it is in fact pointless and breeds more hate for the USA and in return for that hate breeds hate towards other less fortunate countries out there. No the USA is not the best place in the world to reside but hey it sure beats some of the 3rd world paradises out there. So we all have out faults, Us Americans apparently are all fat, junk food eating, Facebook educated morons who OBEY what the Siri tells us on the newest iPhone. Lets not forget we like to force our will and way of life on others and if they resist we carpet bomb the crap out of them into submission. The French are perverted, bad hygiene, cowards who cant man up to their mistakes. The British are stuck up ....... who thinks the still rule the world, have bad teeth and wear track suits. Mexicans are poor uneducated people that immigrate illegally into the USA on trains, drink tequila, eat tacos and sleep all day. Asians are the proud economical bandits that observe before attacking, they eat weird ...., have small junk and talk funny. The list goes on and on though not all of what I stated is by any means true about each person. I am not trying to stir crap but merely trying to make a point, to show people something that is bigger then one mans ego. We ALL have to share this rock we live on. Until we all learn how to get along with each other we are sadly stuck here stewing in out own fabricated ..... -
Oh My God ... man? Is that a thing? It is isn't it? It's not the octopus no its the bacon that worries me...

The same as they always have every year. The Sacred Laythian Roast Beast.

Ok so like every morning I am awoken by my cat at 6:30 AM sharp wanting her breakfast...Spoiled I know. So I feed her and make the ritual pot of coffee and while watching her eat this idea hit me. Kerbal Kitty Spacesuit What is it? Basically I make her a cat helmet out of an orange (air brushed white with masked off orange of course), modify a white cat sweater to have the booties on it for her paws and a tail extension, Add the KSP red logo and dress he out in it... No worries she will be perfectly safe and we have no intentions of launching her anywhere. So what I need is some feedback here as this is meant to be a lol thing

Might I make a suggestion? I work in communications and designs systems & antenna solutions to send and receive voice and data and remain efficient doing so For radio traffic communications through the bird I can suggest you use a transmitter with some muscle. Not this 1 - 5 watt garbage the Hams throw up. I have a few 40 Watt UHF 12VDC transceivers that I can interface into a repeater unit and use very little power and nor weight all that much. I am not a fan of using ham radio frequencies simply because the hams in the states here consist of jackasses who know it all and think they own every radio frequency they can tune into. I on the other hand hold a few commercial radio licenses (16) and I have no issue letting this project use one of the frequencies. The problem with using the ham radio VHF bands is the ham community will run the bird until the batteries do run flat and will no longer charge. Most of them do not know when to stop and since they didn't have to fund the project why would they care? For batteries. it seems you would go with some type of Li-Ion or polymer battery if they can take the conditions of course. With Li-Ion from my own experience I am able to run a 10 watt beacon transmitter in UHF (470MHz) for 3 1/2 hours. Granted I had to series parallel them to get the amperage up but the whole package was pretty reasonable. S band you looking at a pretty penny in cost as mentioned BUT you could use the Ku band where the TV birds operate. The receivers are very cheap and may need some modification of course but may be something to look into. For imaging how about doing what NOAA does in their LEO birds, a similar WEFAX type system? You can use it in VHF like NOAA does in 137 MHz band though Its a slow image but reliable and can be received by a very cheap USB SDR dongle with proper software or a regular ole police scanner radio tuned to the frequency and fed in via soundcard input to decode the fly-by image Also why not place it in geo-sync orbit..

Whay would real-life war spacecraft look like?
elfnet replied to FishInferno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
A real war in space would be a blood bath for both sides. Not to mention the crap that would rain down to Earth what dosent burn up would impact random locations. It would be quite the light show at night though I think. It would never be like a war or battle you will see in say star wars or star trek. We simply cannot control physics to that point yet nor be able to for a very very long time. As it stands now we are not suppose to arm space. but yeah right. Anyone who believes that the USA or any one else has not put weapons or brought weapons to space needs to wake up from the fantasy. Weapons? Take a normal firearm. What do you think would happen if you fired a 9mm in zero gravity and zero atmosphere... The recoil would most likely propel you back and probably cause you more damage by hitting something than the other person being shot by the bullet. The shell casing also would be propelled out and have enough velocity and be hot enough to burn into something critical or someone else. Every aspect of a firearm is for its intended use on Earth. So bring on the laser guns... yeah IF and WHEN they figure out how to shrink a lethal powered laser and its power source into something reasonable then ok sure. Fact is we cannot get away from our habits on Earth with fossil fuels and BS going on 24/7 so anything like this happening in space is completely irrelevant and a long long way off from happening. -
When you complete all science and missions and still do not have enough funds to launch it.

The "You know you're playing a lot of KSP when..." thread
elfnet replied to Phenom Anon X's topic in KSP1 Discussion
When you start speaking Kerbal. -
Here are a couple of stations I put up this evening.. Why use the usual boring names? Not us at Elfnet Communications we like to think outside of the proverbial box! Kerbal Science & Hair Care (For new discoveries and great hair!) Kerbal Space Science & payday Loans (A convenient place to get a loan to pay for your science.) KOX-News Network satellite (just a replica of a KTV bird but renamed..)

Mystery Goo = The Blob..

When you launch it and it blows the windows out of mission control

Ok such a simple design from a movie... I haven't see it yet in KSP which is a shocker in itself. We all have to do crazy things and have a good laugh so here ya go.. BTW this thing is very heavy and a single bell engine struggles lifting it and it eats fuel, but hey I built it for the lolz. My god it looks like a big... Willy! What is that? Well, it looks like a huge... Johnson! Where's it going?

The latest mission that was completed this morning "The Jool Express" orbited Jool and landed on Vall and also on Bop. The craft used Duna for a course and gravity assist and then again used Laythe as a last minute "shoot from the hip" course correction and speed reduction... This mission arrived at Jool just as "The Laythe Express" was leaving Laythe. In fact "The Laythe Express was still in high Jool orbit on her way home to Kerbin. Final countdown T minus 20 seconds. All systems green! T minus 10 seconds. Go for main engine start! The Jool Express is on its way carrying a crew of 5. Tower cleared! Jool Express booster stage seperation and nose cone tower ditching, Throttled to 1/3 power to conserve fuel and not "over cook" the planned Kerbin orbit. Duna assist burn as see from behind the craft. Duna fly-by and assist on our way to Jool. Laythe flyby and maneuver assist to reach Vall a little more efficiently. Jool and Laythe seen from Bop Cat Nappin' on Vall Orbiting Vall preparing to ditch the stage and land on Vall when we got a Laythe rise then a Jool rise! Stage separation. Bop was setting behind us just before stage separation and landing maneuvers. Kerbin Space Sunset 1 Kerbin Space Sunset 2 All five kerbals return home with a bounty of science and samples. I had to put a drogue chute on this big girl to slow her down before deploying the 3 main chutes. other wise they would have been torn off.

cough cough "cheat it into orbit" cough... BTW love it you beat me to it though but very nicely done my friend! Idea! You should use Infernal Robotics addon and make the wings flap..
-
Ok I have officially overloaded the launchpad... Apparently my lander proto-type test is too much for the pad as it suffers a critical structural failure. Note that in the series of images I have not yet fired the engines nor have i put the legs out yet... If anything this is an expensive and interesting way to demolish the launchpad. Test results = Success since it did fly and no Kerbals were killed.. Wait what?! Oh this is bad.. Yep real bad! Somewhere in there is a lander with a crew of 3... Hey we're flying! And we're bouncing... Well all is not entirely lost. I mean it did fly..
-
I know I over built my rockets when they become too heavy and will not lift off instead they fall over and blow up or things start falling off at random. ok I have a better one. You know you over built when your testing a lander and it destroys the launchpad just by sitting on it.. Even better -- When your rover test destroys the launchpad, VAB and mission control...

Today after a long morning of thought and a lot of coffee... I tested planes and failed miserably... Oh the craters.... Try placing the SAS in the center of the planned completed ship. Also consider RCS for maneuvering support and using support struts to reduce oscillations if you have any. I had a similar issue with my space science lab / kerbal hair care center so I redesigned it and put struts on and more RCS control on also.

It's safe to assume the items are not in fact broke, just miniaturized. probes I have built pre-tweak scale install have the items on them in normal scale but things built post tweak Scale install they are tiny... I am no program coder by any means (I'm an IT professional but IT in the sense of web site systems and designs lol) but I have to venture a guess that some math is "off" in either of these mods someplace.
-
Here are some ideas: Procedural Probe cores Procedural Communications Antennas Procedural Science Gadgets Procedural Parachutes Procedural Battery Banks Procedural Rover Wheels I realize Tweak Scale re-sizes many of these items BUT Tweak Scale also breaks some of these items also or makes then microscopic...

Use "Active Texture Management" for KSP if your running addons like B9, KW Rocketry, etc. The problem with KSP crashing aside from running out of memory is some addons are written poorly (just thrown together to rush a release out) and use old .dll files that conflict. Also KSP in itself is still in Alpha stage and has its own series of bugs of course mainly in the memory management areas. The program mentioned in this thread is for LAA (Large Address Aware) for older windows software to be able to access above the 2GB limit. Windows in itself caps usable RAM depending on the version and edition you have. Most Home editions have a 4Gb cap @ 32bit and 8Gb @ 64bit and you can only get above 4/8Gb caps if you upgrade or clean ISO install the OS of a professional or higher edition.. Its a gimmick Microsoft uses to make you buy their "better versions" or suffer poor quality. There is a trick around all this as each windows DVD is by default the same disc only a different label printed and key attached to match what the label says. So you can if you know what to do, "hack" the DVD and change a bit flag to give you an install or upgrade option for ALL versions and editions, basically unlocking the disc. This is NOT something ZI will explain how to do but you can look it up online and such if you just have to try it.

Well seeing how Kerbals are the "little green men" It's safe to assume that the KSP Aliens are human.
