Decimal contract science rewards
Amahula replied to Amahula's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Maybe I should have explained it more extensively. I mean that some contracts do actually give science on a certain difficulty, but when played on a harder difficulty with less percentage science reward, it gets rounded down to 0. Meaning that in stead of science (in normal difficulty) adding up to 20, it now adds up to 0, since all contracts that would normally give less than 5 science will give 0 science now. I'm not talking about the 0 science contracts. And even with a decimal number it would be 0.0 So that wouldn't change anything. -
Decimal contract science rewards
Amahula posted a topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
When played on a higher difficulty, the science rewards for contracts will be lower, but still rounded to integers. Is it an idea to give them at least a decimal number? So in stead of all contracts giving 0 science, they will give 0.5 or 0.8 or something. This won't be a major problem when played on normal difficulty but when played on hard or custom (10% rewards) rewards are basically non existing. Tried to keep this post short as possible and I think my intention is clear. -
Problems with missions
Amahula replied to idiezalot's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I can't tell if you're trolling or not... but thanks I guess - - - Updated - - - From what I can see, the staging is done correctly (activating a parachute and engine isn't perfect tho) and this should complete the sepratron contract. I certainly don't have this problem, so I don't think it's the version that is bugged. I'm pretty sure we are missing something here. -
Problems with missions
Amahula replied to idiezalot's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It always sucks if something doesn't work the way you want it too, but I don't know what it is. If you activate the lv909 on the Launchpad it should complete the contract. You do not need to get to a specific altitude first. You are activating by pressing space bar? The lv-t45, I don't know. There is a specific altitude and speed that belongs to it but you probably know this already. -
New 'Career' start options
Amahula replied to pandaman's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
1. You can always make that option, but since I will never use it and the developers are working hard on all sorts of stuff I wouldn't want it to be a priority. 2. I guess you need funds to upgrade, science for better parts and reputation... not sure what that does. But it's not possible to go all for money without science, or the other way around. You need both for both. 3. monoliths are ridiculously hard to find. You can randomize them, but I personally will never ever find them. I guess you are implying that the game gets repetitive if you restart it? I agree with that, but there isn't that much to be done about it. I guess every game gets repetitive if you start over. There are some randomized things in the contracts, like the survey missions. But apart from the cords it's all the same. Ever tried some mods that add planets and moons? -
Better slider settings for Hard mode
Amahula replied to zarakon's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
By setting rewards and penalties to 30% you basically make the rockets 3.33x more expensive (what you wanted I guess). So what's the problem with the current sliders? seems like you just solved it with that. -
Rearranging the KSC building layout
Amahula replied to Cronicler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
The problem is that the buildings are too small and too far apart. It makes it look awkward in my opinion. By putting the buildings closer together and expanding outwards it doesn't look that weird in the beginning, while the buildings do not get closer together when you upgrade them. -
Rearranging the KSC building layout
Amahula replied to Cronicler's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I would support this. The current KSC looks kinda weird with the small buildings so far apart. This would look a lot better with the buildings initially closer together. BUT: I do want the barn. Not just the same buildings rearranged (but that's just my opinion) -
I totally missed that section. Thanks!
-
I haven't upgraded any buildings, and I haven't failed any missions. Right now I'm thinking about increasing my penalties. I guess somewhere between 200% and 1000% would be a great value where money isn't too easy to come by (as in my case I guess, I'm building money way quicker than science), and you don't already have 10.000 science when you upgrade the R&D (Which will be your case I guess).
-
I wasn't aware of that. I thought those contracts kept "respawning", by lack of a better word. I assumed, even in a later state of the game, those contracts kept expanding (like testing outside kerbin SOI). That is not the case? 10% is ridiculous, picked it just because it was the minimum and wanted to see if I could do it. And now I'm having fun with it. But once you get a satellite with solar panels and a thermometer in a polar orbit of the Mun and/or Minmus, you can do those temperature scans infinitely, so it's just the first couple of kerbal days when it's grindy.
-
That is exactly my point. Thanks
-
I've been playing a Career mode challenge, with 10% rewards for funds, science and reputation. The thing I've noticed is when it gets grindy, you keep grinding the same parts. Always the same engines or small gear wheels. Is it an idea to make more contracts? Where simple parts, usually not tested can be tested like batteries, wings or reaction wheels. The idea would still be the same, get to the altitude (and possibly speed) and right click the part and "run test". Kinda like how the small gear wheels work already. It wouldn't make a big difference, but then I don't have to test sepratrons and lv909's every time.

Why you should always read the missions before you accept them
Amahula replied to RocketBlam's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I had that same problem! Got it the wrong way around. thank god my periapsis was 75km so I needed 10 extra deltav to turn myself around -
In case you regret your decision, you can change those parameters with the persistent file in the save folder. Open the file with notepad, scroll down couple times and you'll see a CAREER section, with the multipliers (the gains 0.1 and the loss 10). Just simply change the values to whatever you want. I guess in this way it CAN get harder. I take no responsibilities for corrupted files and blabla

Bring Back the Barn!
Amahula replied to pallyme's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
I'll just add a comment so the dev's can see how many people want the barn back. #bringbackthebarn -
That's really impressive. I haven't made any progress because of ....loads family visiting. Those satellites look sweet. Nice and spread out. 120 degrees between each. Did you make any calculations for it or did you just fiddle until it worked?
-
I was going to add some mods today, but the remote tech mod has not been updated to 0.90. Are you just playing with the 0.25 version? I will make a backup nevertheless. So the survey above xx.xxxm can be done above 70.000m as well? I thought it had to be done inside the atmosphere. BTW did you know the top of the VAB and SPH are two extra biomes? that's like 5 science close to home! :]
-
I might have 200% penalties, but I still have 10% rewards and I'm sitting on 140k right now (and I haven't gotten above 100km yet). My advice is boosters, tweeking the amount of fuel and thrust. That saves a lot of money, having only one liq. fuel stage on top. And going for jet engines right away. I definitely will be looking forward to updates!
-
I just forgot.. I started with 0 rep. and 200% penalties. So you are a little bit more hardcore than I am (damn!). I don't have any problems with funds, because i do just about everything with boosters (using the stacking trick I don't need any decoupers) and I love doing those surveys because they give like 9k funds and 7 science and I can do them in 2 or 3 flights of 1k loss per flight (assuming I aim well and recover the landing part). I am really close to the jet engines but i imagine after that it's just easy grinding (instead of hard grinding now). I was planning on stepping it up a notch with remote tech when I unlock satelites or TAC life support. I usually don't play with mods because my laptop is slow as it is, but a couple of parts and tweeks won't hurt. BTW does the price of the KSC upgrades depend on penaltie %? so you have to get like 5.000.000 for the R&D upgrade?
-
I was just about to post something simular to this!!! I just have something different. I have no revert flight and quicksaving (taking risks is part of the fun!) And the most important thing: I started with 0 funds, which was really difficult! I am about as far as you are, I don't have the science jr. But with a 10% science reward it's not really worth it. I'm going for Jets right away! I wish you good luck with your absurt hard (I called it ultra-hardcore)

Beta than ever contracts disappearing!
Amahula replied to Amahula's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, unmodded installs)
Oh boy i don't know what any of those things are.. no i do not have any screenshots. To, as complete as possible, explain what happens, this is it: I was in map view (pressing m) and accidently focussed on Kerbin (which is annoying). I tried to get the focus back on my satelite but after lots of useless spamming I gave that up. I tried something else: Spam left-click on a different satelite, hoping the focus would go to that satelite (as long as it's not Kerbin). Spamming this satelite it in map view it then switched to that satelite with lots of lag. After that, my camera kept zooming out and there was very little I could do. So I pressed Alt+F4. After restarting my game all my contracts were gone. that's pretty much it. I guess there is little to do about it. First time it happened in over a year of kerballing. Thanks for listening to my complaint (or reading I guess). Little to be done, apart from making regular backups) -
I don't know if this is already out there, so delete this thread if you want. I was doing a bunch of Mun-related contracts at the same time: explore the mun, temperature scan, and two orbit thingies. The thing about these orbit contracts is that you have to build the satelite AFTER you accepted the contracts. So I accepted the contracts and build a (even for hard mode) cheap rocket that would give me lots of funds and science! worth it rite? no. After my Satelite got into orbit with plenty of fuel and science bits to make my day, i accidently switched to another satelite in map view. From this point I was unable to switch back to my mun satelite, or even to the space center! So after 5 minutes of pressing useless buttons I had to restart my game (Alt+F4). After I restarted my game all my contracts were gone! ALL OF 'M. The once I was going to accept, the once I was working on (the oh so important accept before launching a stupid satelite contracts, and ALL of my already completed contracts). As you might expect, this is quite frustrating, since this satelite had half of my funds into it. And now I can only get the explore the mun contract back. Has anybody else had this had this issue? I would hate to see that I'm the only one with this problem! Please let me know.
