How do i allocate more ram?

When ever i try to launch KSP it goes through the loading screen and then turns black and then the icon in the bottom right appears, then it freezes and crashes, this happens every time i try to start. i have deleted my save state in the library but that didn't fix it, someone please help! - - - Updated - - - When i launch KSP it goes through the loading screen then comes to the black screen with the logo in the Right lower corner and then freezes and crashes, i've tried deleting the save state (i'm on a mac) but that didnt fix it. please help
