Do you use mathematical calculations during flights?
2008dragon replied to OptiSTR's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I made an excel sheet thing for basically every common maneuver where all you have to do is enter the orbital statistics and it calculates everything. However, now I just use mechjeb. -
Space Travel: Where will we be by 2070?
2008dragon replied to SunJumper's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Land people on Mars by 2016? It takes 9 months or so to travel there, plus building and designing the mission would take much longer, not to mention some of the problems with keeping them alive. I know NASA is going to try to land people on the moon by 2018-2020, but I heard that a while ago so I don't know if that is still true. China and maybe Russia are trying the same for around 2020. -
Well, mechjeb isn't really part of the game so...? Anyway, I don't see how this is relevant, seeing as the difficulties arrive from the features only in .17. In my opinion, it was a great update!

flight crew editing...
2008dragon replied to zapy97's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think ToD means time of death. For state, it can be 1-3(I think). I'm not too sure what they mean, so don't take my word on it, but 1 means in a flight, 3 means available for a flight, and 2 means dead(well, I'm the least sure with 2). I'm sure someone knows them completely though. -
Well, I'm pretty sure the settings aren't from .15, since water has been laggy from before then. Anyway, I would very much like these settings too, but for now I can make due.

Hmm, I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you should try the new repair feature in the new patcher if you have not already. It fixed some glitches like that for me. (533 in total )

Sure, go ahead

Hello people! I recently landed on Bop and it was so much fun! Because of that, I decided to make a scenario of landing on Bop! All you have to do, once you download it, is place the file in saves>scenarios , and you're done. In case you are wondering, bop rotates very fast... so landing can be interesting if you don't expect it (this is my first thread like this, so, yeah.. ) Download

Do you use your laptop or your desktop computer to play games?
2008dragon replied to longbyte1's topic in The Lounge
Well, my only option for a desktop is a Mac, so I use a laptop. (not hating, just I like windows more ) -
[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.17 Discussion Thread 3
2008dragon replied to rasheed's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Just a thought, how do you guys think Jool will work in elevation and in the map view? Of course, 0 elevation could be the top of the atmosphere and might be used, but you can still go lower of course. Also, since you can go lower, the map view for your orbit will be in the planet if it includes the atmosphere. Just curious... -
Hmm, well, in real life, no one has attempted landing and returning from mars (or any planet). Also, Ksp does follow a lot of the laws of physics, it's just a different universe, so different planets and stuffs. Many people I've seen will rendezvous with the landing craft with a different one after the lander gets into orbit again. Then, they will transfer the crew and fly back to Kerbin, but that's too much for me
-
Wait, what? Is this for planes or a room?? The room idea is extremely cool, btw.

Do you mean that when you're in orbit, the bottom part of the rocket crashes into the command pod? I tested your design and that is what had happened. I think the problem is that the ASAS, decouple, and mechjeb unit are smaller parts, and cannot handle the 1200 thrust of the largest rocket. Try putting the ASAS where the parachute is and put the parachute(s) on the side of the pod. Also, use the larger decoupler if you want (it dousn't have much better stats than the smaller, but it looks better ). One more thing, you might want to put a MechJeb Ar202 Case on the side of the rocket instead of the 1m unit like you have there. It is smaller and weighs less, so more delta-v Edit: 3 other people just posted lol

How to change target in map view?
2008dragon replied to segaprophet's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Tab It took me soo long to find that because I'd get annoyed when I accidentally targeted Kerbin and was trying to land on the mun lol ;D -
How do you install mods
2008dragon replied to Cowzgomooz's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Mods are pretty easy After the download, you open it up and find the parts the mod gives you. Copy them, then find the parts folder in your ksp folder. Paste them in. If the mod does not require you to have a plugin, then you are all set. If it does, you must go back to the mod download and find the file ending in .dll. Copy that and place it in your folder in ksp titled 'plugins'. Then you should be good to go. Note that you need to buy the game to use plugin powered mods. Also, I'm doing this from memory but I think I got everything... -
It's the infi-glide glitch where you can fly forever.

Can you attach a part to two other parts
2008dragon replied to Nori's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Do you mean you want to make a part like this? If you mean just attach a part to the 'cube', you can rotate it with wasdqe at 90 degree intervals, or hold shift to do it slower. -
Yes the Relay Network has unmanned pods, so you would have to make a new rocket from scratch. However, to control it you need a rocket already in space with a satellite dish. It is kind of complicated so I recommend reading the whole post, especially under the "which parts are needed for what" spoiler. Also, MechJeb has unmanned pods that do not require anything else like the Relay Network does.

Let's see Cart Mod -Rovers Isa MapSat -Maps elevation MechJeb -Autopilot and helpful orbital information Relay Network -Basically what you suggested

I'm ticked off to the extreme on MechJeb
2008dragon replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Discussion
It sounds like it was going to try a bi-elliptical transfer to save fuel. If I were you I'd slow down until I was going to crash into the mun (suborbital trajectory ?) and then turn on the landing feature. -
Help with Mechjeb Mod...
2008dragon replied to Reddoq's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Did you place "MuMechLib.dll" document into the plugins folder too? Without that, the pieces can't be used. Also, that post^. -
[Tutorial] Interactive Illustrated Interplanetary Guide and Calculator
2008dragon replied to olex's topic in KSP1 Tutorials
Wow very nice! I just made a spreadsheet to do this, but this calculator is wayyyy better and I'll probably use it instead Edit: I tried downloading the bootstrap thing but I don't know how (it is probably too complex for me anyway but I wanted to mess around with it) Do you have to pay for it or something? If I try to open it it will go into WinRar... -
"u= Gravitational Parameter of Parent Body. (3530.461 km^3/s^2 for Kerbin). r_1= The Radius of our first orbit. (100 km in this case). r_2 = The Radius of our second orbit. (200 km in this case)." (Quote was taking long for the long post ) Shouldn't the radii be 700km and 800km because of kerbin's 600km radius? When I use 100km and 200km in the equations it says I need 1700 m/s to circularize at 200km, but 700km + 800km gives me 150 m/s (Correct?)?? EDIT: Yea, it should be 700km/800km because later in the post it says " In a 100km orbit, our radius will be 700km."
-
About that, what do we put into the equation? 1.167922e7 or 11,679,220 doesn't seem to get the answer that Kosmo not got. Also, what does the km^3/s^2 mean? lol D: EDIT: Well, it turns out I might not have been doing it wrong. I guess the pi button only goes to 3.14 because my original answer was only a little off... So, finally, I got 128,969,970.14415253188733116798055, or about 1.2897e7 like he got lol EDIT2: Anyway, thanks so much for this. I made myself a spreadsheet to do the math so I hope when the update comes out I will be able to get to the planets a little easier, now I just need a protractor

[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.17 Discussion Thread 2
2008dragon replied to kacperrutka26's topic in KSP1 Discussion
That would be pretty cool! I saw a documentary or something and someone found a planet orbiting very close to the host star, and it was tidally locked, so one side was lava + hot, the other had ice and was extremely cold (like you said). It would kinda make you land on the dark side if there is no land
