  1. I like your rocket designs! Very exciting.
  2. Israel tests Rocket-Powered aircraft known as "Starbreaker" Starbreaker taking off from Runway 09 under the power of it's four engines. The Israeli Space Agency tested a rocket-powered aircraft earlier this week in a flurry of launches and various other radical new measures. It was believed to have been inspired by the Me-163 Komet aircraft and looked to be a remarkably-interesting aircraft. Israeli Space officials said that the aircraft was powered by four small rocket engines that ran off liquid fuels although it is a rather basic design. The rocket plane engines can only be ignited once and throttled up and down respectively making it a trickier-than-usual aircraft with Israel hiring some of the best test pilots in the Western world to help test out the aircraft. They further stated that they could hope a throttable and reignitable rocket engine mounted to the Starbreaker could pave the way towards a reusable space-plane that may take off from airports around the world by private pilots rather than Government agencies. Concept art released by the Israeli Space Agency shows that it could also be mounted onto rockets and released into the upper atmosphere. This would make it function much like some of the X-series aircraft in the United States. What makes Starbreaker different from the X-series is that it appears to have a Grid-fin attached to the top of the aircraft which makes landing much easier. It also has drogue and main chutes equipped onto the aircraft in the event of an abort sequence. There is also the rumor of a ejection-seat escape also in the event but the ISA refused to comment on this matter for now, although the pilots of the Starbreaker wear the spacesuits seen on the prior Suborbital flight undertaken by the ISA which confirms that a high-ejection could be considered a possibility in the Starbreaker. The next series of launches with the Starbreaker will be testing new engines and other systems that could make it a regular vehicle for the ISA to use in training pilots for its manned outerspace program. Manned Orbital flight achieved by Israel Israel managed to join the United States and the Soviet Union in establishing orbital dominance with its rockets, launching the second-edition of the Jerusalem Capsule into a orbit of the Earth where it completed a week-long orbit. It was launched on a new launch platform called the "Aviv-I" platform which has two large stages with very large boosters to propel it through the atmosphere. The platform included advances such as a Launch-Escape System and more safety features as well as better aerodynamic controls in response to the previous issue that prevented the first Jerusalem Capsule from reaching a full orbit. In that event, the main stage after the boosters were jettisoned tumbled wildly until the human-pilot activated an emergency sequence in which the core stage was jettisoned and the second stage was started in emergency settings. However that launch lacked an emergency abort and it is believed that if such an event proceeded to get worse the capsule could only decouple and use its RCS thrusters to move it from the rocket which was very possible if the human pilot was slower in activating the emergency sequence. But enough about the bad, we noticed that the ISA done away with the prior system with the Jerusalem Capsule, the science module completely removed however the service module staying put. We also saw the truss structure that connected the craft to the Service/science module removed which gave the spacecraft a more sleek and pleasing appearance. It was also noticed that the craft had solar panels albeit small. The Jerusalem Capsule also appeared to make use of one of the rocket engines that were used on the Starbreaker plane which had been described in an official ISA report to be a good choice for the Jerusalem Capsule due to the fuel-efficient ability. The spacecraft also conducted a series of thrusting maneuvers with its engine and RCS thrusters potentially to help advance the Starbreaker plane and the capsules abilities itself. It later landed back off the coast of Israel in a water landing where it was retrieved by the Israeli navy. The astronaut was reported to be in good health and very excited after the week-long journey. We await with excitement to see the next move from the Israeli Space Agency, will they bring a Starbreaker to space or perhaps something more adventurous?
  3. Israel Space Agency launches attempted Orbital flight, malfunction causes Suborbital! The ISA launched Aleichem-1 around the afternoon, a rather elegantly blue two stage rocket with two strap-on SRBs that sent it powering throughout much of the early atmosphere. Due to the fairing located on the upper-stages we weren't able to see the crewed module but many space agencies around the world have said that a fairing is vital to a rockets ascent as it protects important electronics and other hardware as temperatures during ascent can ascend to those seen on re-entry. The rocket was seen tumbling after the strap-on SRBs ran out of propellant, in an last-ditch effort the human pilot activated staging and staged away the first stage, leaving only the second stage to propel the rocket where Aleichem-1 was to set new goals rather than let the failure of the first stage keep it grounded. The rocket reached 900,000 in one of it's first landmark goals... Artist's Impression of the Second-stage recovering from the near-fatal issue with the first stage. Also pictured is the Jerusalem-Capsule with the Science and Power module. The Camera from the Power-module took a picture of this moment when the Israeli astronaut exited the Jerusalem-capsule to recover scientists. In this picture, you can also see the container that holds the Norway Rat being exposed to space. A photograph from the BBC showing the Jerusalem-Capsule landing from its suborbital adventure in British India where it was recovered the Israeli Embassy and attaches sent ahead by the ISA. These goals set by the Israeli Space Agency and accomplished on this historical mission is astounding proving that humans can work in space and go to the highest levels of space, recover them safely. The ISA does not consider this a "human in space" or the goal accomplished until it is a full orbital flight. It intends to leave that honor to a more accomplished space force such as the United States or the Soviet Union.
  4. The second post shall be posted by today or tomorrow. Ran into a slight problem installing a life support mod and the BDArmory mod.
  5. October 6th, 1957 (the next post will advance to January 3rd, 1959) ISRAEL LAUNCHES SUBORBITAL SATELLITE! The Beresheet-1, a rocket of the Star Seeker program The Satellite was launched on a suborbital trajectory to test the launch platform. The launch vehicle consisted of two stages with the first stage being propelled by a Kerosene-fueled rocket and six solid rocket boosters propelling the aircraft through much of the beginning air. The rocket was not reported to have reached past the Karmen-Line but the next launch of the Beresheet (Beresheet-2) will be launched into proper space. The launch was met with applause from the United States who suggested that the ability to perform in space and have a platform for rockets is good for defending Israel as a country. Israeli President Yitzhak Ben-Zvi has stated that the space program of Israel is not meant as an aggressive means towards Israeli neighbors and that it is to explore the cosmos. The Soviet Union has responded by sending advisors from its space program to the Republic of Syria. See Page Three for picture of Israeli suborbital satellite Beresheet-1 Satellite itself, laying on the sandy plains of the recovery zone. The Satellite sent by Israeli space agency was admitted by both the rockets designer and the Israeli space agency to be a very simplistic design. A simple converted rocket stage with machinery such as antenna and a camera in addition to a container that held a Norway Rat to examine the effects of space travel on rodents. Also equipped onto the simplistic satellite was a rather "bucket" heatshield which was placed ontop to help the satellite defer any thermal trouble should any happen. Thankfully it didn't present much. The satellite was equipped with two parachutes as all satellites under the Beresheet series will be since they will be sent to orbit and then deorbited and recovered for scientific gain. It is believed this research will help with a human astronaut.
  6. The Year is October 4, 1957 and the world has been frenzied with the launch of the Soviet Sputnik and crisis in the Middle East. The Israeli government has seen fit to start a peaceful space program while also benefiting the military and intelligence sectors. They have four main goals upon which is reached, there will be four more announced by the timeline. During these goals, the Israeli Space Agency will pursue other related rocketry as well. The Four Goals of the Israeli Space Agency (October 4th, 1957 to October 4th, 1977) Satellite in Orbit (מחפש כוכבים - Star Seeker) Manned Space Capsule Orbit (איש בגן של חוה - Man in Garden of Eve) Manned Moon Landing (ילד ירח - Moon Child) Docking with an American and Soviet spacecraft for Detente (ידידות תחת אלוהים - Friendship under God) Optional Goals: A Lunar Base by the year 1970 - 1977 Prepare for the first posts this coming week.
  7. Hi, would you be interested in a me playing along being the Soviet force? I would be happy to!
  8. I think that the KSP 2 developers should add in more Launch Abort systems that could protect the life of the crew should something happen. The normal launch abort system is a good choice but I think there could be slightly improved options. Perhaps there could be ejection seats (one way to possibly do this is have a MK2/MK3 cockpit with ejection seats already coded in that can be activated separately.) and also a system similar to SAS or reaction wheels that you could put on a spacecraft that can automatically activate the launch abort system if there is favorable realistic conditions. This could save a lot of peoples kerbals life in career mode, even more so if you make ejection seats start out as a starting technology. You could go for progressively better ones as technology goes on. Come to discuss and let me know what you think.
  9. A good spaceplane design is one that works aerodynamically and has a good enough liftoff capability. My guess is you're trying to make a kickbooty spaceplane that is capable of orbital manuevers, flying out and flying back into KSC. So, let me go over some key essential things. 1). A good design is with Delta Wings and a lot of other wings/fins to have the air flow through. Also airbrakes for aerobraking purposes. Adjustable air intake is also good too because that lets you adjust for air flow. The essential part is you need to avoid any "extra" parts that might slow down your craft. Go for what is necessary and will help your plane aerodynamically. 2). Engine location is important. When I first started out making spaceplanes I always used the MK2 bicoupler with heavy engines. This was bad because it make the spaceplane center of mass go towards the back rather than the central part which is where the center of mass should be. I recommend you place these on the Delta Wing as close to the fuselage as possible. Connect one fuel-line to it. Struct it properly so the fuel-tanks with the engines don't go flying off and bouncing around. :) 3). Crewed or AI, the AI drone core reduces weight significantly as it is just a small drone core compared to the cockpits. The drawback is that the AI drone core will need something to generate power. You can have a small cargo-bay to stash the radioactive isotope generators and a few batteries. If you are not that far ahead, you can opt to place a few batteries and a solar panel instead. 4). Lights are somewhat important if you plan on doing night-time flying whether it's on Kerbin or anywhere else. I recommend four. (two on the delta-wing top side to illuminate the runway as real planes have, two on the bottom of the fuselage for illumination)... The lights drain power so you'll need some batteries for the cargobay. 5). Landing gear is also important, there should be two on the wing with one forward and one in the back to deter tailstrike. Size depends on how big of a craft you're gonna be building. All in all, building a successful spaceplane is easy but it requires trials and usually these trials are by fire (if not worse... LoL!) and at the end of it you'll come out with a successful spaceplane. The biggest joy for me on this game is when I launch a space shuttle (Mine is a AI-drone named the "Cargolifter MK1" designed sort of like the space shuttle.) and I get it into orbit, open the little cargobay doors and I release the satellite into "the wild" (so to speak.).. Of course you can also make a cargo spaceplane that can take off from the runway. Heck, even a spaceplane boat designed to "surf" the waves of Laythe and look for new stuff. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination goes! Good luck my friend!
  10. I noticed there hasn't been much chatter about US2 on these forums so I'm posting a thread to post your star-systems here and your planets that you've made or just cool things that you have done!
  11. You make good points, I wasn't saying for sure that it was so. I'm just saying it's something that could be considered. For starters, let's call in the different UFO's that people have seen. People have seen the traditional original flying saucer and black triangle and various other saucer craft. Saucer shaped craft are still spotted today, along with the black triangle. This calls in to question; who is flying the saucer and who is flying the black triangle? Perhaps if aliens were to exist on Titan that somehow exist given your points, they may not be as advanced as we think and they use a old traditional saucer while the Grays use a newer, more advanced craft (black triangle)? It's not impossible that there is alien civilizations that have not mastered the flying saucer or rather designed the right one. - - - Updated - - - Yeah, that's a good point too. But the atmosphere is hazy and hides most of the surface so how can we know what's there? I mean, we've seen some of the lake but not a whole lot.
  12. The Titan Theory: Aliens could originate from within our own Solar System. So close, actually that it may be right under our noses. Specifically, I'm talking about the Saturn moon of Titan. The reason I suggest such a close target? Simple. During the Opposition of Saturn yearly.. There is a slight increase in UFO sightings as I found out during research regarding my sighting to make sure that I wasn't seeing the ISS or some other orbiting object. These UFOs could originate from the Titan moon. Some evidence (but not fully solid) to back up can be found in some of the Saturn Radio emissions which is eerie themselves if it isn't ET. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SUaE9hoWvpQ: 4:39. Saturn should appear.). The radio emissions have according to some people garbled text that says some spooky words. Now. If aliens were indeed to come from Titan. They would most likely be Aquatic-based ET that could possibly breathe Titan's atmosphere and also Earth's atmosphere. This seems unlikely, but it would explain the vast majority of UFO sightings around water. Perhaps the Aquatic ET are abducting fish? Maybe they need to refill water, similar to whales? However, this blows a deep hole in to the grays theory. What if the Grays and said Aquatic-ET are rival factions that battle for Titan as a outpost of some sorts? I'll make some points in how this theory could be deemed plausible and not so plausible. PLAUSIBLE THINGS ABOUT THE TITAN THEORY: 1. Explains UFO sightings on open sea or UFOs seen leaving from under water. 2. Explains UFO sightings around Saturn's Opposition. 3. Could possibly explain the Saturn Radio Emissions if the source is not from Saturn's weather patterns as originally thought. IMPLAUSIBLE THINGS ABOUT THE TITAN THEORY: 1. Does not explain the Grays nor the vast majority of abduction stories regarding Grays and their home in the Zeta star-region despite no exosolar planets. 2. Does not explain UFO sightings outside of Saturn's Opposition. 3. Does not explain previous alien theories set in history. I know it seems quite far fetched, but worth a thought. The anatomy of said aquatic creatures could be Humanoid or resemble something like a Squid with arms. Perhaps as of now, we are in fact in the middle of a intergalactic battle that's taking place right under our noses?
  13. That's a good point. However, I have a theory that really doesn't place aliens that far away from us. Are you perhaps, interested in hearing RainDreamer?
  14. Possibly. That's not a situation we can not rule out. However, they can not pay in USD or any known currency, so they would be dirty pirates!
  15. Not to disagree, but how? It was a few days before Ariane V launch. Also, I live in the USA. East Coast, right around the state of NC.
  16. It was a few nights ago, during the opposition of Saturn. Like on May 24th during the early morning hours. I was trying to see the planet and I couldn't. All I could find was distant stars, however I did find what was stated in the OP.
  17. I'm not entirely sure if UFO encounters are allowed to be posted on this forum or not. Basically, my story is: "first, it was a few nights ago. I was going outside because I wanted to observe Saturn and it was at opposition which meant it was close and bright, so I could easily find with my telescope. Suddenly I saw a very fast red light fly across the sky. I knew it was no plane, I never saw airplane fly so fast that this red light flew at. I then saw a white light fly by and then vanish in the middle of air. I saw some more white lights. I tried to communicate by turning my flashlight on and off" I can see that some people might be skeptical to the belief that alien life is visiting or even have UFOs flying around in our Solar System. I'm not saying for sure it was alien. All I'm saying it was a UFO (Unidentified flying object). Doesn't mean it's alien or human. It's just not known what it was. However, I can assure everyone that infact it was not a airplane. What makes me so sure? Due to the fact it was flying upwards and flying at incredibly fast speeds that I've only seen very few aircraft do and they were not capable of VTOL. I only seen lights, no identification of what model of aircraft it was. However, it did flicker it's lights and appear to "dance" with it's white light on. Whatever it was, it was attempting to communicate. Further more, I'd like to bring to the board a thread about UFOs. Also, I'd like to ask other Amateur astronomers or anyone really that stargazes to present their stories about what they may of have seen. Also, I am open to questions and skeptics regarding my encounter.
  18. Has anyone had Opposition happen in KSP? making it easier to get to the planet or no?
  19. Wow. Laythe really reminds me of Subnautica. I have the additional planets mod and I love looking at it's moons. I thought about originally doing a Sarnus challenge, but I didn't want to make it a mod only challenge.
  20. JOOL & LAYTHE EXPLORATION CONTEST For some time, Kerbals have looked upon the giant Green Gas-Giant and wondered, could life exist there or it's numerous moons? For decades since early Kerbal kind first laid eyes upon this gas-giant. Many have wondered how it was formed, why it's in our System and possibly give clues on how the Galaxy was formed. Then the moon of Laythe is called in to question. Many Kerbals have wondered could Aquatic life could exist on Laythe despite it's extreme cold just like on Kerbin (minus the cold.). For decades, these questions have been asked with no clear answers by the Kerbal Astronomy Society. Now, independent and national space agencies (you.) are finally getting a chance to explore the Jool System. Below, you will find various contracts to undertake to finally answer the question; Is Kerbal-kind the only species in the known planets? Long Range Observation (Optional) 1. Observe Jool using a Telescope (CactEye 2 Orbital Telescope mod is recommended.) 2. Report findings here on forums. 3. Move on to next contract. Permitted Mods: CactEye 2 Orbital Telescope mod, MechJeb. Other Mods may be allowed, but you must PM first regarding them and include a link to them on the forums. Jool Exploration 1. Establish a Communication link back to Kerbin with a Communication Satellite. 2. Send a probe down to the planet and investigate utilizing a variety of instruments. (OPTIONAL) 3. Position a Space-Station in the Jool System, orbiting Jool. (OPTIONAL) Permitted Mods: Hooligan's Airship Mod, MechJeb. Other mods may be allowed, but you must PM first regarding them and include a link to them on the forums. Laythe Exploration 1. Send a Probe to the planet to investigate. You can either try a land or water landing. Whichever works best for you. Conduct experiments. (OPTIONAL) 2. Send Kerbal to the land portion of the planet and make a Moon-base out of what you would like on the planet. (OPTIONAL) 3. Send a Manned Submarine to the ocean portion of the planet and explore the oceans and conduct EVA experiments and investigate the ocean and search for signs of aquatic life. Permitted Mods: Hooligan's Submarine Mod and any other submarine mod you may find, MechJeb. Other mods may be allowed, but you must PM first regarding them and include a link to them on the forums. CONTEST RULES: 1. No cheating please! That includes HyperEdit, Debug Tool! 2. No unapproved mods. Any mod can be approved/denied if you PM it to me and I review it and see if it's suitable for use and doesn't violate Rule One. 3. In order to qualify as completing the 2nd qualification of the Jool Exploration. You must use a airship and get as physically close to the planet as possible without violating the Kraken's rules and Jool's physics. 4. That's all. Go do it!
  21. A return vehicle for the Colony Ship should something go wrong, or a escape craft. What do you think? Beginning is at the bottom. Seats 3 people, just a test right now, Give information and etc, please.
  22. I have a plan for the ship. I'll hop on KSP right now and design something.
  23. Seems I can't access the GUI for the telescope..
  24. I can help you build it. Easy to do. I have parts that look like the one in your original post. Check WARSAW-ONE of one example.
