  1. My interpretation of the problem with the Mac version is that there is a memory leak associated with one aspect of the game (finding it is the key for the developers).

Scene changes area point where memory usage jumps (and occasionally then drops back slightly) so, if the memory usage goes over a critical amount, the game locks, becomes unresponsive (for me) or CTD for others.

Due to the memory leak, playing the game over a period of time causes it to hold on to more and more memory until a critical amount is reached. As above, scene changes are going to be probable high frequency crash points but playing the game for long periods with no scene changes, the small memory hogging increments will gradually add up to critical memory usage.

Dropping the texture quality helps but only because it starts you off with a lower baseline memory allocation - eventually it will build to critical. The underlying bug is still there.

Even if Squad found a way to increase the amount of memory the game could address to remove the current critical amount, it would only allow us to play longer before a crash - it wouldn't remove the problem, only postpone it.

Hopefully, the log files that people are submitting might hold clues to which parts of the program aren't releasing memory when they've finished with it (but only if Squad are actually interested in doing anything about it - probably a lot of work for a small fraction of the community).

We will all have different takes on this bug and different experiences as we all play the game in a different way but underneath it all is the same memory hog bug (IMHO!)

    THIS!

It's exactly what I've been seeing now too. It's something in the game causing the memory to leak.

    Please fix it!!!

What's the point buying a 40 euro game on Mac when it's unplayable? I hope Squad really fixes this problem asap. It certainly doesn't look good for them as a company to release a version of the game that is not working for almost everyone. If nobody cares about the Mac users, then why choose to release a Mac version even though it's not playable? Sounds like a ripoff.

The Mac users, including me, will certainly support 100% if the developers asks for help or information to fix this problem. I really hope they are interested too.

The best "bandage" to put on the wounds now for the Mac version of the game is to Lower Texture Quality. First, I had full quality... It crashed almost every 5-10 minutes. Then, I put it down to Half and I could play about 15 minutes. Now, I took it futher down to a Quarter and last night I could play about 1 hour before a crash. However, it is very situational. If you are at the base or launchpad or even changing scenes, then the risk of crash is much higher.

Seriously, why release a Mac version that is not working? Why not just say that it's too much effort and just telling Mac users to install Windows bootcamp instead and play it from there, when it's obviously not working for OS X like the tons of people are saying...

  2. I am experiencing the same problems as others have already described in the thread. Constant crashes, freezes and graphic glitches, making the game almost unplayable for now.

    Specs:

Macbook Pro Retina 15'' (Late 2013)

    OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3

Processor: 2,6 GHz Intel Core i7

    Memory: 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3

Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB AND NVIDIA Geforce GT 750M 2048 MB

    Description:

I downloaded the latest KSP version 1.0.2 and played it without any mods or changes at all.

I set up the highest settings available, everything ON. Tried sandbox mode.

The game started to lag because of Anti-Aliasing was too high, so I changed it down to 2x (which is the maximum it can handle or it will lag too much).

I then proceeded to play the game in Career mode. When flying in space using the orbital map, everything runs perfectly smooth and looks nice. There are some bugs and graphic glitches, but nothing big.

However, while at the base and close at the earth during rocket launch, the framerate drops significantly compared to playing it at a windows boot on the same computer, but still playable.

The crashes, freezes or graphic glitches occur either during the time I am close the earth, alternatively viewing the base. I have especially detected that they occur during the time I change the scene, entering buildings, entering the launch pad, during rocket launch, reloading the game to launch pad/ vehicle building etc. Most problems are when I change the scenes...

The graphics problems occur frequently while I overview the base. The entire screen can have bright pink, yellow and green colors making the game unplayable. There are other graphical texture glitches too but they are hard to describe, however, they won't go away unless I restart the game.

I have also noticed that the graphical glitches sometimes disappear if I turn off full screen mode and then turn on full screen mode again.

Many people have already posted their crash logs etc. but I can post mine too and also screenshots if requested.

I have tried to play around with the graphics settings and so far the only thing that has minimized the crashes and problems has been to turn the texture quality down to Half. However, the problems still occur frequently, making the game almost unplayable for longer times than 10-15 minutes.

I just bought this game today and I was skeptical because of Mac versions during game launches usually are really bad, but I really love this game so much so if there is anything I can help you with to fix the problems sooner, please tell me.
