  1. Hi all. I've just released the second video in my series looking at kOS. In this episode I talk about variables, variable scope, and use of the LOCK command. The series is starting at the basics and working its way up to more complex topics, so at the moment it's still very focused on beginner topics and getting used to the language. it's probably a bit too basic for most people here, but maybe the new people can benefit The link is below and, as always, I welcome any feedback or suggestions.
  2. I'm not sure if you're ok with videos being posted here, so if it's a problem then let me know and I'll delete this post. I've made the first video in a series I've started that looks at kOS and I'd love any feedback or suggestions you have. This video mainly discusses scripts and where they're stored. It's pretty basic and just sets the viewer up for the rest of the series. (Also, it would be good to know one way or the other whether videos are acceptable here or if there is a better place to post them.) https://youtu.be/cLaK-VNv_v4
  3. Sorry about not getting an entry in yet, been pretty busy myself (and also there have been more than a few failed runs).
  4. I got a 150 tonne plane into vacuum and splashed down mostly intact, no way it was going to establish an orbit though and a water landing doesn't make for a very reusable plane. Definitely going to need a different design.
  5. I thought I was using the advanced canard, but it turns out I'm using the AV-R8. My COL and COM seem ok (actually they seem to be better placed once the winglets are gone), but I guess actual flying of the plane is better evidence than guessing from the markers. I'm going to concede this one to you
  6. They seemed to have the lowest heat tolerance of any part on my plane. Maybe it's because I used the fancy ones. Kind of annoying that the assembly interface doesn't list max temperatures for parts (unless I missed something in the new UI?).
  7. Very nice I did consider a hybrid approach, but I'm a simple man. I had a massive problem with maintaining level flight, but it seems like you've got that nailed so you're beating me in many different ways at this point. My video doesn't really show it because I started low and allowed the plane to climb through that (and got lucky that I didn't get too close to 20km before finishing), but in prior attempts I was trying to stay close to 20km and was constantly needing manual inputs. It wouldn't even think about levelling off, it would just immediately flick past level and straight into the other direction. That had the unfortunate side effect of shedding a whole lot of speed every time it switched from down to up or vice versa. Probably losing the front winglets at the start of each run didn't help matters.
  8. Of course, the problem with being in sandbox for this challenge is that I need to use the rest of the week to grind out the rest of the tech in my career mode, otherwise I'm going to be way behind for the next challenge.
  9. I should remember to plant a flag with my results on once the standings are announced
  10. To be honest, you're beating me anyway (morally if not in points) because I'm on sandbox and you're on career. The settings were all default, so heating is at 100%. I don't think I can push the craft any faster because I'm right on the edge of melting all my intakes at that speed. Maybe other types of intake (or engines that don't need intakes) will survive better, but I'm too fond of my design to change it now
  11. New video, new speed 1375 km/s and sooo close to managing 1380 but I lost speed a little too quickly at the end. https://youtu.be/PrI9KYNCwfo
  12. I'm definitely going to have a go at topping that speed I have a plan to make my intakes survive for longer, and I'll target 1 minute at 20km rather than the harder requirements I accidentally targeted in the video.
