Reach is important, if you share your videos in appropriate subreddits etc, you'll do well. I made a funny Yogscast video and shared it on their subreddit, and I got 1,500 views from it. Upload regularly so people feel some need to subscribe so they don't miss a video, also an attractive profile picture, banner and thumbnails make your channel look extra nice.
