Thanks @sal_vager that worked!

So I downloaded Kerbal Space Program about 3 days ago, and now whenever I try to open the launcher it keeps saying "Checking for Updates" and when I try opening the game directly it has a loading bar but does not actually move (I left it open for over a day and it didn't move). I tried all the usual things like quiting the program and opening it again, turning off my computer and turning it back on, I even re-downloaded it, but nothing seems to work. I haven't even been able to play the game yet and would like to soon. If you have any idea what happened or how to fix it please let me know. Thanks! P.S. I downloaded it from the website, not STEAM, and I have a Mac.
