did you use a kerbal as the sample?

okay well i need it to get orbit so i know it can do the challenges.

okay its just they look like a bunch of thuds put together

I Don't know what you mean, you

can simply get out and go up next to the asteroid (w/ a kerbal)

and right click and it says "sample" or something and you can

just go into your command pod and it adds it.

Well let's see how powerful mine really is. Using some quick math, my SLS has around 9,676 kn of thrust, which is around 2,175,251 pounds of force (The real SLS will have almost 8.4 million pounds of thrust). Using this formula  {\text{TWR}}={\frac {F_{T}}{m\cdot g}}>1  we can find the TWR. This rocket weighs about 600 tons, so we can plug in 9,676 for F_{T}  and 600 for m. Multiply m by surface gravity (g) which is 9.81 m/s squared. So multiply 600 by 9.81 and you get 5,886. Divide 5,886 by 9,676 and you will get a TWR of 1.64, so my SLS is pretty powerful, considering it's entire first stage has 12 orange tanks clipped together.

Anyways, enough of boring math, here is the link.

Who needs math, just add more boosters.

Ok pretty good! Just a couple comments.

    • Didn't the 551 Atlas V take it up? Five SRBs?
    • Too bad about infinite electricity. maybe test it a little more before flying it next time?
    • Dres exists! DRES EXISTS. DRES EXISTS!

That last picture got me good. 0/10.

    Seriously, good job mate!

    Nope Delta II

    Yes. You are right.

Ok so the problem here is that in KSP, the planets are much smaller than IRL. If you wanted to lets say... re-create Juno where you have the spacecraft go around the Sun and encounter Earth again to boost yourself to Jool, it wouldn't work. There is not enough gravity to get you that far. Therefore if you want to use Duna which is scaled down massively, you're going to have to maybe do one or two or just get it right. I haven't attempted it myself so I don't really know.

The next problem you're going to have, is aligning the planets. First you have to get a Duna encounter. Easy enough. Then Dres has to be in a Duna>Dres window to actually get close to a Dres encounter. What I'm saying is you're either going to have to timewarp before the mission to align the planets which could take decades or centuries in game or just go around the solar system until you get the encounter OR get a mod that does the calculations for you. Doing this is going to be quite hard.

    But good luck!

Edit: Oh yeah plus there isn't a Vesta analog so you can't re-create it entirely.

I've got an encounter with dres & Duna gravity assist was successful

    photos will be up soon.
