  1. First of all big thanks for the help, it was indeed the timewarp that screwed with my orbit. I performed the correction burn far outside Duna's SoI. My understanding of orbital mechanics approaches zero, so far I've been going by the rule that the further away from a target a correction burn is performed, the less energy is required. As for the aerobreaking, I just tried 17km and didnt get much closer to establishing an orbit. Looks like I'll have to almost scratch the surface as I got absolutely no fuel to spare. Thanks for the link to the calculator!
  2. Hello everyone, I've been sending my very first mission to Duna, but cannot get the final maneuver(s) right. I understand that for an aerobreaking maneuver I've got to come in at below 40km. I set the flight path accordingly, but end up at a very different position once I get close to the planet. 1. The craft is 3 days away, maneuver node set to a 24km Periapsis "in front" of Duna 2. Maneuver performed (well enough) 3. Craft arrives with a 464km Periapsis "behind" Duna I'm obviously missing something. I guess flying to Duna is different from flying to Minimus or the Mun, but in terms of projected flight path my ships always ended up exactly where they were supposed to. So I dont quite understand why that is not the case now. Hopefully some nice Kerbal with experience in interplanetary navigation can give me a hint.
  3. My first attempt at building a station. Its pretty much just a flying gas station (with a fancy view). Its supposed to fuel up interplanetary expeditions, should I ever acquire the skills to undertake them. (The part with the x-shaped 1x6 solar panels attached to it is the shuttle.)
  4. That explains it perfectly, thank you. Got a new station up already, docking port is working fine now. From reading the wiki I got the impression that controlling from port was necessary for the ports to "clamp", but that doesnt seem to be the case.
  5. Doh! My kerbal engineers must have been drunk. I guess I'd rather not mess with the save file but just launch another station. This one is too small anyway. Thanks a lot everyone, also for taking the time to make that image.
  6. I apologize in advance for asking a question that has been answered in a thousand threads and tutorials. In theory I know what to do, but still cant get it to work. I've got a tiny station in Kerbin orbit, and a spacecraft that I'm trying to dock with it. Both have clamp-o tron ports, one of them shielded. The actual rendevouz is not the problem. I have both craft aligned, but when I bring the docking ports close together, or even have one inside the other, the two will at some point just bounce off. From the KSP wiki I learned that they are supposed to magnetically clamp but that doesnt happen. One thing I noticed is that when I set the approaching ships docking port to "control from here", nothing really changes. I'm not sure whats supposed to happen, but apparently its important. Hope some kind Kerbal can point out my mistake(s). Thanks.
  7. This is great! I had old Bob slumped over the controls of his mun rover, after performing a couple of unintentional somersaults. Even sent another man to set up a flag in his honor. Needless to say, I didnt quite like having an undead Bob sitting there on that mun mountain, staring from his undead eyes. Thanks to your help he finally and magically awoke from coma, tore down his own memorial plaque and flew home.
  8. Awesome. I was about to try the push blade on my flipped rovers, but the forks look just perfect for the job. If those wont turn a rover back up, probably nothing will. Big thanks for the work you put into this. I\'ll send a Bigtrak up asap and hopefully get a few of my guys home.
  9. Hey all. After bombarding the mun with faulty spacecraft for quite a while now, I thought it time to finally join the glorious KSP community. A big thanks to the developers for making this game awesome, and to the countless Kerbonauts whos lives I have so willingly sacrificed. Cheers.
