  1. What is the fastest you can get a ship to the mun, and successfully land it in a state that can take off and return to kerbal? For a ship that returned, I have 8:26, and for one that would have been able to return, but I accidentally landed it on a slope and it fell over, 6:42. Post a screenshot of the ship landed on the mun with the time visible. Stock parts only. 1. Bluejayek 8:26 2. 3. 4. 5.
  2. Out of curiosity what is the fastest you have been able to launch a munar return mission in? My own first successful mission was ~9 hours to the surface, and 15 hours to return. seems to me the only way to make a truly speedy rocket would be to make one that had a huge ammount of extra fuel, such that you could burn directly at the moon in a ballistic trajectory (ignoring hohmann transfer orbits entirely), flip over at halfway, and burn down for touchdown.... I hate to think what such a ship would look like on the launchpad though.
  3. Craft file is at the top of the first post. Glad you like it. I always find it suprising how little fuel you need for anything once you achieve low kerbal orbit.
  4. Cool rocket. Think it might be easier for you to land if you replace the final stage engine with the tiny one and add some landing struts? probably will prevent tipping and the rocket disintegrating on you
  5. Hey all, Relatively new player here, just managed my first safe munar return flight and thought I would share Craft file http://www.box.com/s/054ef6bcfdfe4423e719 Descending towards the surface Touchdown on the Mun! Returning to kerbal Map of return trip Back in atmosphere Slowing for powered 'landing' Splashdown! Kerbanauts intact, ship not so much. Aparently even at under 5m/s a water landing is too much for the engines. Also rather amusing that engines float.... As you can see, my craft had an entire inner stage that was completely unnecessary. If I remove it I should have a lot more fuel on my landing stage to play with. This successful attempt following a couple of failed attempts where I made it to the mun, but not back. One can be seen in the landing picture as the debris 4km off. Everything looks fine... But when I went to take off one of my 4 engines was loose. Oops. Clearly this landing attempt was less then perfect. I attempted to come down on a slope. I did try to take off, but I hit a rock and exploded before I could get off the ground.
