Race to Proxima Centauri
Bluejayek replied to MeticulousMitch's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
That 29,000m/s score is incredible, I don't know how you managed this. My latest entry had 28,000L of fuel on top of a nuclear engine (Over five hours of burn time) from kerbin orbit out, and still only made 24,000 or so... -
I like this explanation better

Race to Proxima Centauri

Well, I am attempting this, unfortunately what keeps happening is: -
Boring. How about RCS from the 'surface' of Jool back to kerbin?

What do you think about new nuclear engine?
Bluejayek replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I'm using it for my interplanetary transit burns and it works great. The delta-V I can get off one of these below 9600L of fuel is monstrous, as is required when you frack up and circularize an orbit in Jool's SOI with a moon going the opposite direction and have to fix it. -
This is almost as good as my favorite challenge rule: "All modded parts are allowed, but .cfg edits are forbidden" Anyways, if you want to include a 'landing' on Jool, then perhaps define that as going below 1000m altitude and returning. I expect this to be very, very, difficult, if it is evne possible, because of the insane drag from dense atmosphere and huge gravity well.

How did you manage to land on bop? When I tried this happened Was rather disappointing, as it had been a long mission. To start with, I managed to get into an orbit almsot perfectly with bop, but in reverse. Luckily I had the fuel for the ~4000m/s delta V to correct that.
-
I've parachuted down to eve, and crashed into the second outermost of the jovians moons. I thought it was a lot smaller then it was, and my NERVA engine didn't cut it.

Melfice, adam is trying to say that Dune's orbit is a circle with the center not at kerbol. However adam, Fact B: a rectangle can be drawn around any ellipse; you can draw a SQUARE around a circle.
-
You may want to rethink that plan. Assuming your periapsis is around kerbins altitude, that orbit has a period of roughly 140 years kerbin time. That will take a while.. even on max time warp.

How much RAM do you need to Run KSP Smoothly with no lag
Bluejayek replied to cocomoe1002's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I don't know what bf3 is, but I'm pretty sure it isnt a physics simulator. The lag in KSP is not graphics rendering for the most part, but physics lag. If you have 10 parts, the game calculates the drag forces on them all independantly,. checks the forces applied, whether they should break off or explode, etc. That means that the more parts, the m,ore calculations, and it needs to do this all many times a second. You cannot compare this to most other games performance wise. -
Can you upload the other screenshots you took of it to show that its not a one off hoax?

Your plans for EVA on Duna or other planets?
Bluejayek replied to AncientAstronaut's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I plan to do an intermoon EVA in the jovian system analogue. I believe the outer moons are small enough that I should be able to travel between them and land on EVA. -

This makes you sound like the people who drive off a deadend road into a lake and say "The GPS told me to do that! What else was I supposed to do!" If mechjeb is landing you in a stupid spot, correct! Besides, minimus has immence flat planes that you can easily land on. The Mun is slightly more difficult for that.

MechJeb's Ascent settings
Bluejayek replied to CaptRobau's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The ideal settings are the big red x, proceeding to use manual controls From my manual flights with minimal spacecraft, I find that a constant gravity turn starting at 10-12km and ending at 70km altitude is most efficient. If you want to be lazy and let mechjeb fly your ship for you (or perhaps just like ship design), those settings are probably reasonable. -
Launch a kerbal into orbit with rocket exhaust
Bluejayek replied to Amodii's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
I thought about this. However, as far as I can figure, if you gravity assisted by the Mun once, you will eventually pass by it a second time later on, which will probably kick you into kerbol orbit. Hence this isnt really stable. -
Did I just prove you wrong? That being said, I believe whoever was saying this is impossible was just trolling anyways. I tried this once using SRBs from kerbin; I made it to the Mun, but I was attempting to land with just a single SRB and mark I pod... I figured I had about a 50m window to start the SRB burn, and this was travelling at 500m/s. Despite many attempts, pegging that 0.1s window didn't work. Ballast mass is the way to go!

Realistically all missions would be planned weeks or months beforehand. In KSP what usually happens is the following: Build rocket Put rocket on launchpad Press spacebar "OH MAH GAWD IT DIDN'T EXPLODE NOW WHAT!" Figure out that you should turn the SAS on and fly upwards Complete gravity turn "OH MAH GAWD IT ACUALLY MADE ORBIT WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE" Mess up TMI burn Correct TMI burn Enter Mun's SOI Run out of fuel Enter Kerbol orbit Phone home for a rescue ship Therefore, I argue that adding pause/slow motion just makes up for the planning that realistically would have happened beforehand

Kerbin doesn't even have orbital seasons, as its orbit is perfectly symetric. Interesting. Perhaps the lack of a tilt comes about from minimus... Kerbin had a tilt at one point, but a predecessor of the Kerman race lit a giant explosion while attempting to launch their first rocket which caused a large hunk of rock and space cheese (now known as minimus) to be ejected from kerbin, removing kerbins tilt. It sort of makes sense.

largest 4 engined plane
Bluejayek replied to toxictalon74's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
You need to disallow mods. Otherwise I could just edit the engines to have 10x the thrust and totally ruin the point of the challenge. Also, RCS should be exluded for similar reasons. -
What exactly are you doing to get those crashes devogen? I haven't had many crashes in 0.16, and most of those have been attributable to doing really stupid things. The latest was making a 7000km long launch clamp, which broke, sending me flying at 2000x the speed of light spinning on a 7000km long spoke. The game crashed when I tried to EVA from that ship. I do get lag with very large ships, but I understand thats to be expected...
