Long time lurker, fist time poster. After years of playing KSP on and off I finally achieved something worth sharing with the community. After many horribly failing partly successfull attempts to launch simple space stations into orbit I immedietly got the idea to launch a whole moonbase to the Mun. In one piece. Hours of fighting bugged part placement in VAB and constructing lower stages with a carrieing capacity near infinity I finally managed to get my station (and rocket) going. The first three versions exploded in Orbit or couldnt reach escape trajectory so I abandoned them quickly. But with the fourth try I finally left Kerbins atmosphere and startet my escape burn. When suddenly my two upper stages exploded. The station was still intact but my only method of propulsion were the two nuclear descend engines, and if that wasn\'t bad enough the station would constantly roll over when firing them if not countered with MASSIVE use of RCS. Call it a wonder (or cheaty mod tanks) but i finally managed to get that thing in low Mun orbit. After picking a landing site I promptly started my wobbly descend, just for KSP to crash 1000m before touchdown. After starting the game up again and looking for my station in the tracking center, I noticed it already being in a landing trajectory at 220m/s and 15km height. After panicking, activating manual control, firing the engines full power and rolling the thing over a few times I finally managed to touch down on the Munar surface. On a slope, but still intact. Ladies and Gentlekerbs, I finally present to you: Moonbay Alpha (codename AEIOU John Madden ) The station consits of a Main body of habitation and research modules, an airlock for visits to the Munar surface, 8 solar panels, 4 radiators, crapton of RCS fuel and enough nuclear engine fuel to visit every crater in the known universe. Also I brought a rover for surface exploration, complete with MechJebTM unmanned long-range-control and InfiniteInstabilityTM. If I still manage to fail horribly with this mission the upper part of the station houses an escape rocket capable of returning (at most) 3 life Kerbals back to Kerbin. After all the effort and countless lost lifes I have to say, seeing this beauty, it was TOTALLY WORTH IT 8)
