I thought I was going to get some sleep tonight, guess I was wrong...

Intellectual property, patent and copyright laws are in place to protect against theft. If I invented something, I would be very upset if someone were allowed to waltz in and copy the design I had worked so hard to create. Stealing ideas for personal gain is just as bad as stealing objects.

Stating that the space race was a mostly military contest is completely false. Had it been a military contest, both sides would have launched nuclear weapons into orbit. While some of the rocketry science was applied to ICBMs, much was also applied to manned and science missions, which would have little potential military application. The space race was more of a contest to show off the industrial prowess of communism and capitalism, in order to influence other nations. It was more akin to the Olympics than to an arms race.

I have recently had the opportunity through my school to fly in a B-17 bomber. It was absolutely amazing. It really helps me to begin to understand what those pilots in WW2 had to work with. I am so glad that I had the chance to fly in one of these before they are all gone.
