Flags (at least on the Mun) do not occlude the sun; in addition, even when the sun is blocked by a ship or Kerbal, it's either 100% blocked or immediately 100% full brightness. And I'm sure this one is documented, but the camera is not blocked from going into the bodies, allowing for visuals from inside the Mun and other bodies
