Severity: Med/Low
Frequency: High/100%
Description:
Steps
Use Craft `Airbrake AoA Test` from attached Workspace.
Set angle of attach for existing Airbrakes as needed (for top mounted, use two compensating the mass)
Launch Craft
At MECO (end of runwayish), stage for braking parachutes
Recover vessel
Observe max speed
Rinse Pilot and Repeat
Actual
top mounted airbrakes are far slower (263 m/s) than side mounted ones (311m(s)
there is a non linear relationship between angle of attach and final speed
Expected
Same final speed on all mounting points/angle of attach
Same drag for
Notes
First I assumed a trigonometric behaviour (see diagram), still might be but could be overshadowed by approaching Mach1
The second Craft in the Workspace is stuck below Mach1 with a top mounted Airbrake, and reaches LKO with 1k dV with side mounted ones
Behaviour is not observed for other parts (tested about 10 others, gears, fins, wings, tanks (empty), pilot seat)
Behaviour is not observed for deployed airbreakes (!)
