    Yes, removing the control surfaces solved it! I had no idea the game even simulated thrust being blocked.

    I made a ship to try to get to the Mun, however, when I try taking off, it only takes off at stage 4, despite all previous stages having TWR greater than 1. I'm very new to the game by the way.
