KSP2 Release Notes

Just read the two chapters one after the other and I have to say, you're a fine writer! I look forward to your next releases. My two pence would be that the tone of your first chapter was serious, rather dark (nothing like extinction to set the story), and frantic. This then suddenly switched to the maniac-we-love jeb in chapter 2. It felt like a bit of a whiplash change in mood and character, although it got back to being lovely and serious (i do prefer these stories with serious and dark undertones on top of the casual life, lends a story life and believable-ness imho) in good time so I guess its not much complaint at all in the end ^^ Like many above me have said, I also am all for character development and chapters longer than my arm! Keep up the good work! oh and one more thing, I love your image integration, as well as the quality of the images themselves. Lovely art style, can't wait to feast my eyes again!

0.16 will really shake things up, i cant WAIT for it (haha why no more updates in the development threads ;( ), and excellent Don haha. A tip for the new players; explosive decoupling. Shedding that decoupler weight is EXCELLENT. But we do have a \'house rule\'. You cannot explosively decouple an SRB with a LF engine because there is a bug where that LFE will then burn fuel at half the rate. Explosively decoupling SRBs with other SRBs is fine.
-
by all means, go for it. I\'ll let Don deal with handling the prices. I have posted in the main thread but I have been having internet troubles but consider this official approval! Lets get stuff up there!

hi guys. Just to report on my current situation. I am having some serious internet issues, namely my desktop, which is connected to my router via devolo homeplugs, has decided that it no longer has a valid IP configuration and I have been trying everything to get it fixed. Manually assign IP and DNS, restoring system and all the shebang. Eventually I stole the family router for 5 mins to plug it in directly and it worked, which was a massive relief, because it means my PC itself works fine. So now im waiting on purchasing new homeplugs. Which means that I cant play this turn. Im posting this via my laptop and there isn\'t a hope in hell that it could run KSP. I know i could save the .craft file (and text instructions) onto a memory stick or something but basically I haven\'t had time to play much. Anyway, apologies but I won\'t be able to submit a turn this turn, just consider me running a fundraiser. Good luck all with your space programs, and who knows I may even get the internet sorted for next turn\'s deadline :

yeah thats fine edit; or i can edit this post \o/ i can add a comely 5000 to the pool this turn
-
I\'ve had a busy past few days, weddings and all sorts of shinanigans, so sorry about not being o the ball, i\'ll input the new pool data now. Awaras, do you want to do that aerospike rocket design then? And wait until the pool is big enough for it I\'ve also yet to do my turn so busy blitzing that ^^ will edit this with my own pool contribution in a bit
-
thanks arawas, i too will contribute to the pool. I think if we can reach 50000 monies in the pool for our first launch, using your lifter design, then thats cool by me. Bigger is obviously better for cost per unit mass, but we also need to be wary of overly expensive rockets for two reasons, being able to get stuff up there next turn (this turn no launch I agree) and the potential for failure. edit: and I add 2000 to the pool this turn, about as much as I can afford.
-
im not sure on how strict this particular \'rule\' is but the command pods go up last as well. But i totally agree than designing a lifter which is priced by cost per unit mass is much more efficient, but we also want to be able to afford such a rocket. im sure it would be cheaper to send up it all in one go, but that would be one monster rocket. That or this an actual \'optimal\' cargo mass. My designs aren\'t getting anywhere near Awaras\', probably because of his high tech level.
-
yeah definitely, it will at least get us started. Post how much you will draw from the pool then I will deduct it and let Don know. And thanks issarlk, I\'ll add you to the OP
-
Thanks to Fireblade42 for donating his fundraiser to the pool, but can I ask that players post here about pool donations? It helps me keep track of things, I can put you on the list of Donators straight away, and we can use that money straight away. From this point I\'ll take Don\'s figures as official figures for tracking the pool to include anonymous donators, which is perfectly fine, but I\'d prefer it if you posted here. Awaras, excellent news about the salvage, I don\'t believe I will come up with a cheaper design. Even using unmanned tech I cannot get cheaper than you. 6 sLFE\'s is 30000 alone for me! :\'( I was experimenting with 1 large LFE designs but they struggle to make it to the high orbit required, and are now turning out to be more expensive, ~ 27000 or so. Of course with more research everyone can produce cheaper vessels.
-
Great news guys, Don has decided to send us some \'Kerbal Science Wizards\' which cause our pool to grow by 10% per turn. (I assume this is 10% on top of what remains in the pool at the end of turn). Awesomeness.
-
oh dear, looks like my mun slingshot backfired ^^ I wonder why though, on mine it would fling you way out of kerbin SoI, i guess you just went a smidge too close. :-[ edit: Oh and where did the extra 1500 come from on your pool calculations, last turn i counted 16000, 10000 from awaras, 5000 from myself and 1000 from db. Did i miss something? Don\'t get me wrong, more is better, but I don\'t want to inadvertently cheat ;P

I have a query. For remote controlled rockets, do they need to return? For example the \'complete one orbit\' mission doesn\'t strictly state that the vehicle needs to return. Don\'t worry, it CAN, its just that what with control range being tiny at <5000m landing is hard (a powered landing that is). Im just wandering if it is ok to leave it in orbit since it contains no kerbals so there is no real NEED to return it to the surface, par salvaging.
-
That\'s no problem Issarlk, it\'s still early days yet where most players are scraping every penny. Thats excellent Awaras, i\'ll add it to the OP. I only have LF tech I so my designs will most probably cost more, but knowing your parts list I\'ll try and make something smaller.
-
yeah thats perfectly fine, and as you say it gives is a number to start from. Also on an aside if we considered ourselves from a joint community perspective then we may want to coordinate our research. What i mean is at the moment all of us are probably researching similar things, with each of us becoming a \'jack of all trades\'. (for community projects) it would be wiser to have each of us specialise. For example I will be gearing myself to get remote tech I & II as soon as possible, so I could start sending up powerSats to greatly increase the range of unmanned rockets, which are significantly cheaper. Someone else may want to research LFE all the way and another person could fully develope Zoxy tech (although this would only be useful if we could jointly \'construct\' a vessel during community projects). This doesn\'t really apply at the moment, but it is just my musings. Thoughts guys?

thanks db, every addition helps. If you\'d be more specific (about rocket cost) Awaras then I\'ll pop you on the designs list. Thrashing out my mission ship at the moment but I\'ll give the lifter design ago. I\'ve thought about things a bit (dun dun dunnnn), keep the craft designs to your self so you can maintain your own secret techniques, just exact costs will do for the list, since that is our only required measure.
