What do you think of science-to-tech research mechanic?
Corona688 replied to Wjolcz's topic in KSP1 Discussion
You don't get contracts in science mode, where the topic question still applies. Different mechanic. -
Why is this game still on the market place?
Corona688 replied to ChillingCammy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
What I'm mocking is the belief that "noise" makes devs work better, checkout lines move faster, retail workers happier, managers more compliant, prices lower, etc. Even if it works, amplifying your message until you get what you want isn't something people are going to cheer you on for. A glorified temper tantrum is still that. -
Do you want the craft file for my Canned Lander? I splayed the wheels so it doesn't block. 6 tiny rover wheels.

Please don't encourage him. If the devs cave in to one broken record, they'll have to cave into all of them. Or more likely they'll just stop participating in such a toxic environment. Or perhaps they're not gauging their dev priorities on who's the loudest. -
Why is this game still on the market place?

If it was a matter of opinion this thread and conversation would be easily tolerable. Opinions have been expressed and explained. "Are we there yet?" is not an opinion. Neither is "Why aren't we there yet?". Especially not, is "how to make this place even more miserable in the hope it will cause us to arrive". Let's hope that's not their strategy for air travel. -
Try what? The 'launch' button? This should be in gameplay questions.

Are we there yet? No Are we there yet? No Are we there yet? What did I say the last 540734756894378934706243987438906573489056714895071425680947158901735890137548904 times? You're mad. We noticed. Does anyone have anything new to add? -
This should be in gameplay questions. You don't need to upgrade the SPH to launch rockets, but your craft may be too heavy for your launch pad. If you're new to the game, career mode will be an exercise in frustration. I suggest science mode or sandbox mode.

Spider-tug, spider-tug, does whatever a spider-tug does... What are the donut packs for?

Today the lazystumble stumblebums at Station B, having been left alone to slowly research whenever they could spare a moment from space parties for half a year, had to panic-clean and get things ready for the return of the the Decapod from Minmus along with its cargo of rescuees. Nobody expected them to be the station in range, and it turned out a quick upgrade needed to be boosted up, to adapt their old-style 0.625m hatch to a proper 1.25. A very old-meets-new moment, with the old kerbalmun flag on the right and new gear-wing-sky on the left.

Absolutely open to suggestions. Originally the fairing was omitted as it kept ending up as orbiting space junk. If I can ever remember to deploy it before orbit is achieved I'll think about it. They already are. They're attached using the slanted nosecones attached radially, which crossfeed fuel outwards (much to my surprise!) They fire all the way up, and are still full when the twin boar runs out. Passive staging FTW.

I don't mean your idea, I mean that enormous and silly top-tier 340-isp space engine in stock KSP.
-
Tell me about it. I'm not sure what use that octuple-scale terrier engine thing has yet.
-
The Swivel is pretty close. It's not as efficient as the terrier, but an ISP of 320 is nothing to sneeze at either.
-
What would they call it, the Klonk?

Where is "Hack Gravity" in KSP 1.1.3 ?
Corona688 replied to Francois424's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
What good would changing gravity in the VAB do, unless you were using some mod like whack a kerbal? -
There's still a 'connect with steam' or something like that button in my KSP account somewhere, unused as I don't have steam.
-
Why use the spider instead of the twitch? Weight. The less weight on your craft, the better the dry mass ratio, which at the lower end can give some pretty extreme results:
-
The reliant costs less, weighs less, and has more thrust than the swivel. For heavy lifting in atmosphere when you've already got a big vectored engine, the reliant is better than the thud and the swivel.

Why is this game still on the market place?
Corona688 replied to ChillingCammy's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Even there, people need to hurry up and wait unless they actually have anything to add to the conversation except anger. If you're not The Hulk, anger doesn't help. 90% of requests are closed because 90% are duplicates and whining. -

The bug tracker helps them. This is just a distraction at best. -
F=ma, therefore speed is not the whole story. Mass matters.

As originally answered, It takes geologic ages to push ANYTHING through Sony and Microsoft. Is this making it faster? No. It doesn't work that way. Is this shaming Squad into working faster? No. It doesn't work that way. Is there anything we can do to make them faster? No. It doesn't work that way. Does this thread actually help anyone or anything? No. It doesn't work that way. Life doesn't work that way. We're not there yet. We're not there yet. We're not there yet, stop asking. We'll just have to wait. -
Also my first "almost single stage to orbit" and fully reusable rocket: It's an "almost" because the Twin Boar runs out of fuel most of the way through circularizing, and the fully-fueled twin Swivels finish the job much more efficiently. Passive staging I guess you could call it, since stages are not involved, but the craft still does very different things at different times. It's 100% reusable because sometimes you want to send empty orange marshmallows to another planet and this is one way to do that. I'd thought of sending the twin boar itself, but once in space the boar engine is overkill. All remaining fuel is transferred back to the upper stage, which blasts off to Minmus 97% empty, and lands on a heavy miner 99% empty. (The twin Sparks should be able to lift it once fully re-fueled, unless I've severely miscalculated.) The lower stage fires seprotrons and re-enters, abusing the Twin Boar's high impact strength for an eventual tail first landing.

I got better at landing things on top of things. When you're close and slow enough, it's kind of like a regular docking where you need to hit 'N" a lot more often. A pair of upwards-pointing engines basically used for hovering help slow the process down.
