[AAR] Jool of Kerbol system or There and Back Again
czokletmuss replied to czokletmuss's topic in KSP Fan Works
Hmm after the April purge I believe it is included in this pack: http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/inflatable-habitat-base-mod-updated/ -
[AAR] The Grand Tour - Voyage To The Planets
czokletmuss replied to czokletmuss's topic in KSP Fan Works
Okay folks - almost everything is done and all parts work on 20.2. There are still few crucial elements (engines) which don't want to cooperate. If I can force them to work, expect new chapter very soon, maybe even today. EDIT: Still some troubles with IMV "Proteus" but LAMGML works fine -
[AAR] The Grand Tour - Voyage To The Planets
czokletmuss replied to czokletmuss's topic in KSP Fan Works
Well, I'm good at writing only so I just asked chobit for help with the emblems -
More cool footage: I guess NASA doesn't want to cooperate with CNSA (Chinese space agency) because they are afraid of industrial espionage (ergo China stealing US tech). But it seems that more and more Chinese presence in space is inevitable. And that's good! Space is not a place for a stupid flag-waving or misplaced patriotism - we should all cooperate for the betterment of mankind. Of course there are issues like national security (btw China is finishing building the GPS-equivalent) but remember - when in six months there will be rumours about cancellation of SLS program in USA or new problems with NASA's budget, China will be preparing to the first transimission from the surface of the Moon from 1976.

I think they should do a fake Mars landing. That's the only thing within the range of possibility.

[AAR] The Grand Tour - Voyage To The Planets
czokletmuss replied to czokletmuss's topic in KSP Fan Works
Thx, I will! Yup - I don't have much time now and I still have some troubles with the updating the whole thing. Stay tuned however Wow, thank you very much If you like this, you'll probably like the first story (prologue to this one) as well: You can find more here: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/27214-AAR-Jool-of-Kerbol-system-or-There-and-Back-Again -
I'm bored. Let's plan a manned Venus landing.
czokletmuss replied to The Jedi Master's topic in Science & Spaceflight
But why land there in the first place? This is like a manned mission to acid vulcano; Venus is much less hospitable than Mars without any of its advantages, so I doubt that anything alive will ever land there. -
http://www.space.com/21419-best-student-rover-2013-urc.html I generally concern national pride as stupid but knowing how dramatically ignored and underfinanced is science and especially space-related things in Poland (even tough that we joined ESA 7 months ago) I have to admit it's a pretty big deal. Just sayin, if it doesn't fit into this subforum please move it to the OT subforum

You don't need nukes to achieve this I'm glad you are making progress - keep up with the good work!
-
But if they take some rovers they will be able to operate them from orbit without lag. Plus they will have unique opportunity of studying the geological features of an asteroid. Not some miligrams of samples but tens of kilograms. So Mars moons ain't a bad idea.

[AAR] The Grand Tour - Voyage To The Planets
czokletmuss replied to czokletmuss's topic in KSP Fan Works
East Coast! I will do this as soon as everything will be updated. Be patient, I have to wait for mod updates too Thanks for info. Mods are getting updates pretty quickly so probably in this week there will be new chapter. Though tomorrow I have to take my PC for some repairs to the service point but it shouldn't take long -
With MechJeb (though you don't need it, it's just easier) 1. Reach orbit 2. Select target (planet) 3. Set SMART A.S.S. to TRG+ (point the rocket to target) 4. Accelerate 5. ??? 6. profit! That's all you need though you may save a lot of delta-V by using manouvre nodes, so you don't accelerate only in prograde but also change your trajectory by adding some m/s in normal/antinormal and so on. That cover is in KSP - if you want some SCIENCE, read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brachistochrone_curve

[0.22.X] BobCat ind. Historical spacecraft thread
czokletmuss replied to BobCat's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Orion is great, it's so cool to be able to fly this baby. If you are interested in the RL spacecraft, you have to watch this short clip guys: http://youtu.be/7_pxbiMLxQo -
[0.22.X] BobCat ind. Historical spacecraft thread
czokletmuss replied to BobCat's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Set the MJ to start gravity turn at 10km instead of 5km and it should be fine. -
I love this part It reminds me of "Sunshine", which you probably are inspired by: Thanks for this mod man!
-
I used this: // --- asset parameters --- mesh = model.mu rescaleFactor = 1.25 scale = 1 And everything seems to be okay. Can anyone check this?
-
Excellent work and great gold coating - I'm looking forward to use this parts
-
Wow. The Kerbals are a pulp after such treatment with 15-20G.
-
It was a speed challenge, though you don't need more than 10-15t lander to land and take off from most of the celestial bodies. I know, I'm trying to be helpful by giving some feedback. One who creates webpage as great as Atomic Rockets deserves all the appreciation there is, not to mention this very succesful Orion implementation into the KSP. So chillout

Thanks! I think radiation is a smaller problem. As you wrote on your site, every powerful engine is in fact a weapon. If it will be possible to put nukes on orbit - well, we all know what EMP is. Of course Orion pellets aren't big enough to do a lot of damage this way (are they?) but let's say India or China or USA want a really big Orion. Having this monstrosity up in the sky will pose a serious threat (even if we are past the cold war MAD we have to consider accident or human stupidity). Probably we should keep all the Orions on the lunar orbit, just in case Besides, your Orion can be easily accelerated to more than 40.000 m/s. I think the weight of the engine, bombs and bomb storage should be increased, it will have a bigger impact than price (until we have a career mode at least). I have a very small payload (5t?) but still...

DONE! A lot of pics but this is a test so I guess it's okay: Leaving the atmosphere. 3min into the flight. 200 nukes used and on course (50km periapsis). After some braking (minus 10.000 m/s) I am approaching periapsis. How do you return from Mun? Just point the Orion to Kerbin and press Z - I stopped and accelerated to 3600 m/s in 1 minute (this is more than 5000 delta-v in 60seconds!) Accelerating (!) 25.000 m/s is enough I guess. Setting course to aerobraking. EXTREME AEROBRAKING. 23000 m/s in 9 seconds! I tried to use one bomb to stop but even with c.120m/s this one bomb gave me c.200m/s more than I needed and sent me up. Finally stopping on the ground! Pod broke off the ship, forgot parachutes -> collision My record. 36m28s to Mun and back - and still 16% nukes left! It could be much faster than that but I wanted to set the periapsis low and have some time to take pics and set the nodes. Conclusion: once you go Orion, you never go back. What's the point of any other engines when you have THIS?
-
59min50s to the Mun and back? I will do this with Orion! (no landing though 'cause it's impossible with this ship)
-
You've got 12.700 m/s when leaving Kerbin SOI, I got more than 30.000 m/s with 5t payload and still more than 1/3 bombs left, so I guess putting some small sattelite there wouldn't be impossible to do in a few weeks Of course with more/bigger bombs it will be easier. Either way, you deserve extra points for putting a chair on top of it Yeah, I will check this out soon - I wonder what will be the Kerbin-Mun speed record?
-
I don't know what is the ISP for NTR but 5000s is pretty impressive.

[0.25] Lionhead Aerospace Inc. - Icarus v0.4 updated
czokletmuss replied to Yogui87's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Enough to get to 15km orbit and randezvous with CSM on 25km orbit. I used MechJeb to test it but still there was like c.300 m/s left, so everyone should be able to do it. And yes, I lost engine while landing (this brave maneuver included even a barrel roll - don't ask).
