Protractor - Rendezvous Plugin - Under New Management!
Neomatt replied to mrenigma03's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Okay, the "Calculate closest approach" thing is so useful, it's almost criminal. Before, I had to guess how to correct; now, I just look at the indicator when I use RCS in an axis, and 9 times out of 10, I manage not only to get into the SOI, but do fancy stuff like aerobraking and choosing where to land. Kudos to adammada (since he made the code for it) and mrenigma03; now, I can go to Duna and back without propulsing myself in the Sun. -
Here is HarvesteR discussing the issue and the fix: http://kerbalspaceprogram.com/forum/showthread.php/20917-0-17-Space-Cuthulu-Dropping-from-max-warp-to-no-warp-makes-your-ship-explode?p=279910&viewfull=1#post279910 So it's coming in 17.1, but I'm sure they want to fix other bugs or something.

Protractor - Rendezvous Plugin - Under New Management!

Very useful. Now you have the numbers for planets, and yours. So all you need to do is: 1) warp before liftoff until your angle (theta) is equal to the one of the planet you target, 2) lift-off, reach orbit, 3) when your ejection angle is equal to the one for the planet you target (+- 2 or 3 degrees if you do a slow burn), you burn apoapsis until you reach the correct delta-V. If you missed the planet, it's because the angle was not 100% 0° (either for your ship or the planet), so a few RCS adjustments may be needed. edit: to be clear, this does all the math, but since you don't reach the good speed/angle manually, you still need to fly by the seat of your pants a bit; it just gives the optimal fuel-efficient trajectory, not a sure-fire way to reach the planet. -
What music do you listen to while playing KSP?

I put videos on the iPad next to the computer, often something I've already seen (like a few Mythbusters episodes, or Archer, or some webvideos). -
Only one thing I want for 0.18, and it's sorta planned/thought about: improved patched conics in the map view for easier rendez-vous/interplanetary travel. Right now, without a trusty calculator on Alt-Tab, it's impossible to guess by trial-and-error a trajectory. And I love to do just that.

At a high price... Given the number of users and the size of the software, it's TBs of data, and Amazon is charging about 120$ for 1 TB, so it can go to 1000$ for a single patch. Pretty sure they don't have that lying around for each version. About dafluf's ideas, I'll add "another unique server for downloads only". That would at least leave the forum/store available (but about 100 threads "DOESNT WORK UGH" would be created on patch day) Steam is the best of the bunch for me (externalized, allows for diffs/patches, and I already run it via Steam), but yeah, some people don't like it, and I can understand why. Also, they need to get their cut and current users need to get Steam keys, so that's not as easy/fast as the others.

"Double-tapping the wheel brakes key will now set parking brakes." Yeeeeeees.

Dude will be a rock star when he posts again.

I could do a bullet-point list of all the features, but let's just say this. This game made me create a thread about it in my favorite forum (which became a news... huh, guess I did right ). This game made me stay there, even after countless duplicate suggestions, just to see what is coming. This game seriously makes me ponder buying a 40$ joystick just for it (maybe I'd get FS X or Orbital after, but who knows?) This game made me break my promise of stopping to code something for fun, not work (I stopped after making a Synology package for Plex Media Server and being harassed by users). This game is just pure, space-worthy fun. And I love it.

Yep, up to 1 km is relatively easy once you understand the "get at a lower altitude to advance, get at an higher one to slow down". I'd probably use the autopilot for 2 things: - stabilize the other ship (we REALLY need to have SAS left on if we leave the vessel) - maybe do the "finish" after the ships are at less than 10m from each other.
-
The second part would be ideal; "creating" the new ship and controlling it instantly. But as you said, not sure if it's possible.
-
Aw come on, don't be begging like that. Also, the Great God of Docking is still fixing bugs, so any "he must go on the team!" may have to wait a release at least. And if he was snatched before releasing it, we would have to wait for 0.18 or more to see it in vanilla KSP. And that's BAD.
-
I think there's still an issue with this, I need to check. And sorry for the lack of responses recently; I've been on vacation and then in crunch at work (so coding afterwards was a bit too much for me). I'll try to fix this last bug when I can.

Oh great, now the Cloister Bell is ringing and the Universe is ending. You should've turned left. ;-)
-
I'm not sure if that would be best. For physics, sure, it would be better (the wobble after warping must be a consequence of calculating the docked parts' position, and so the Kraken is very present here). But I like the idea that a station and a docked shuttle are not one vessel; when you want to bring back the shuttle, it's better to "select" the shuttle as the current vessel, undock and go away. I'm just not sure how you would switch from the whole to the part (maybe automatically?)

For me, it's the modding part of Scenarios/persistence files which interests me. It's always nice to have more options for something, and editing settings at a universe level, instead of a ship level, is great. -

I whistled Also Spracht Zarathustra in the office. Now everyone is looking at me funny. -

ETA/deadlines are always missed in computer development, and it can go both ways: the last-minute bugs (and not like the fuel one, more like "it destroys half the persistence files" or something funny as this) or the "uh, thought it would be harder" parts. So a deadline would lead to 1) dev frustation, because the massive bug is coming just before the deadline, 2) user frustation, because the date was missed (it can be a day or a week, it'll always be the "I TRUSTED YOU" threads and anger on the forums), 3) everyone refreshing the forum/update server and crashing the thing (adding more frustation on both sides). Seriously, the "when it's done" strategy (if you don't go DNF and wait 13 years ) is always preferable for everybody. -
[UNOFFICIAL/FANMADE] 0.17 Discussion Thread 2

Well, the mood changed quickly... A few pages ago: "oooh nice stuff coming", now: "the game is broken and nobody speaks to us, 0.16 was rushed but I want 0.17 now"... As for the patch, maybe they wanted to avoid the issues with 0.16, so they needed the new patcher, and it came what, a week ago? Given that 0.17 is in experimental now, releasing 0.16.1 now would lead to "WHERE'S 0.17 ALREADY" threads anyway. -
And then we'll have arguments on the asteroids: "Ugh, Gagarin is smaller than Ride! The game is biased!" Joking aside, that's probably the best way to include the "big names" in space travel; I'd rather land and walk on Armstrong than see his memorial on the Mun. And depending on the size of the list (which should be big already), some sci-fi writers like Asimov, Clarke or even Adams would/could complete the set nicely.
-
Woah, for a mod, it's a "OMG I WANT THIS" kind of mod. The docking process? Awesome. Fuel transfer? Splendid. A small, optional MechJeb-like autopilot for docking? Icing on the cake. I surely hope it comes there soon (but hey, when he/she wants to release it; I can understand wanting it to be perfect).

If it were me, I'd probably kick you out for breaching the NDA, but re-instating you quickly after a while for being such a gentleman about it. -
You can go to http://m.xkcd.com then; the alt-text can be read there. In any case, it says: "20 balloons float away while I'm busy permanently tying one to a tree to deal with it for good. Unfortunately, that one balloon was 'land a rocket on the moon in Kerbal Space Program.'"
-
I know that the opposite is true: http://forums.xkcd.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=72688 (HarversteR replied there). Anyway, it was a good comic, only enhanced by seeing a shout-out to my favourite game.

a discussion on KSP, Mods and making money
Neomatt replied to vvaris's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
Selling is right-out (and really, people would just get it for free somewhere), but are donations really out? I mean, if someone makes a big mod and says "hey, if you want to buy me a beverage, use the button below", just as a way to say thanks, would it go against the rules or not? It's always nice to get a few bucks (not a living, mind you) as a reward for your hobby work.
