About me
Rocketry Enthusiast

Normally it's a week or 2 for release from experimentals, but that is if things go well. I'm betting .23 will be released at the conclusion of Kerbalcon. Also I'm looking at tweekables as being a major improvement. Maybe not huge coding wise, but gonna be fun. Also I don't care that English is not a persons fist language. Rude is rude.

I had a ship in a decent elliptical orbit around the planet with a fAir amount of science. Only had a bit of fuel left, but one end was just brushing the atmosphere and the other was pretty far out. I did my retro burn at the wrong end (playing KSP and watching TV at the same time). Managed to get an almost perfectly circular orbit under 69,500m with no fuel. So I cranked up time compression to 4x and watched the orbit decay a couple of hundred m each time around. I need up falling asleep waiting for aero taking to really take hold. Woke up to bits of debris scattered over the surface.

I think that they are making a mistake making it too easy to get through the tech tree so fast. Maybe it will settle out when economics are added in. If this was civ it would be like whipping through the entire tech tree before 1 AD and saying that's okay since they are expert players. If a player can go through it that fast it's pointless to even have career more. Perhaps a difficulty level needs to be added.

THeone thing that crossed my mind is that science is still being done in the space station after you have sucked all of the research points out of Kerbin, however that science does not necessairily have any application to rocketry. I guess along the same lines, to me there is a bit of a disconnect between science and research anyway. How does studying the ground around Kerbin help you make better rocket engines and fuel tanks? But I don't see how it can be made more connected. Perhaps doing general research creates funds for rocket related research.

Is it just me, or is research a bit schizophrenic?
techonce replied to Tassyr's topic in KSP1 Discussion
While not probable, it is possible for a civ to develop a rocket before developing a plane. Also this is a work in progress. To me it looks like squad created a basic framework to encourage us to work through career mode. It's going to go through changes. They did some testing on their own, but we get to play it enough to work on balance. Firaxis does the same thing with Civilization. They created it and got it fairly balanced. Then 6 months later they have a patch that has a whole bunch of balancing in it. Based on feed back. -
I am disappointed that there is no science in Sandbox mode
techonce replied to johnnyhandsome's topic in KSP1 Discussion
The way I see it is that you don't get science points in Sandbox since everything has already been discovered. But really I don't care either way. Once money is introduced we will have these same discussions about money as well. By definition a sandbox mode generally does not keep track of money and the like. If people are frantic about not having science and they want to be able to track it for purposes of challenges, then perhaps that is something that a scenario should be used for. Otherwise, how will you prove that all of the science is from the task assigned? -

Currently Jeb is waiting on the Mun with 2 goo containers and a notepad of science. I hope to go retrieve him someday. UNfortunatly I will never be able to recover the goo samples. -

To me the fuel transfer represents advanced design methods, not necessirily a pipe. Okay it is just a pipe based on the desciptions, but using that pipe properly. As for a thermometer... Thermocouples. they are gravity and pressure indepentant. -
Version 17 - 18 = 73 days Version 18 - 19 = 105 days Version 19 - 20 = 66 days Version 20 - 21 = 64 days Version 21 - 22 = 84 days (assuming released today) Average for above is 78 days. I figure 1 week plus or minus is unremarkable. It just seems longer.

My thoughts on KSP money
techonce replied to KatzOhki's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Another option, which is realistic, is that if you agree to take a mission you receive x amount of money and when you pull it off you get y more. Perhaps that amount can change based on other criteria. Money in the bank can be set aside for future use, to cover expected overruns, or for unsponsered flights. -
I don't believe that we was ever employed by Squad. He just collected the bits that were posted. I do admit that there have been less screenshots and the like, but different things were being worked on back then. I have noticed that there have been less postings by the devs. Makes me hope it just because they are just soo busy.

I always like it when people mention that you can just throw more programmers at it. I hear that at work on occasion. My response is: "Just because 1 woman can make a baby in 9 months, it does not mean that 9 women can make a baby in 1 month" This update is coming out a bit slower. They are averaging about 2 months between releases. On that pattern they are running a bit late, but they are not migrating geese, they have they're own targets and dates, and it sounds like the science part is pretty huge. Better to get it right then make a mess of it. Also it always makes me smile when a poster with less than 20 posts starts complaining.

I've been playing since 0.15 I believe and I have experienced very few bugs. I think only once in the hours of playing (~200 pre steam, 58 post steam release) did the game crash while I was playing it. I don't have a beast of a system. Occassionally you find a few minor bugs, but it's a pretty stable game. BUt for an Alpha Build game, it's pretty amazing. I spent $14 on the game and got 250 hours of enjoyment. THat brings the per hour cost down to about 6 cents an hour... no complaints there. Heck even if you only base it on the hours recorded by steam it comes to a quarter per hour. I foolishly bought the Star Trek game. Completed it with a buddy in 16 hours, and by most standards that was not exactly speedy. I spent $50. At $3/hour, it was a ripoff. Civ V. 413 hours on record, spent $130 on game plus expansions (wow! I never added that up before). 30 cents an hour. Feels worth it to me, and that number will only be going down since I will play it until far into the future.

I keep trying, but never seem to get it right...

THere's time enough for them to sleep when they are dead.
