They iether died in a failed Mun landing (something about a missing fuel line or two), or shortly after launch when their entire rocket blew up. I know both happened to me yesterday, I just can't remember which was first...

IIRC, poking around in some of the MechJeb 'information' panels while your rocket's on the launchpad (not in the VAB) should give you it's overall weight and quite possibly fuel capacity as well... don't know about thrust though - even if it's included on one of the readouts, I reckon that might still read zero until you light 'er up. And if you're anything like me, once that happens you're too busy trying not to crash/explode/deal with lag to be looking at MechJeb readouts!

Probably trying to set a lander down on the Mun using only RCS thrusters. Might not sound like a bad idea but when your lander is a 6-person crewtank with ASAS, Unmanned Command Pod and 3-metre nosecone on top, and 4 LEM landing legs on the bottom it's a bit like trying to stop a bus by blowing at it with a drinking straw...
