  1. You'll crash Kerbin's economy with this sudden influx of resources. Or you could just become the De Beers of Kerbin. In all seriousness though, I have very little success in asteroid capture. It's like the Mars Curse, something always seems to go wrong when I undertake asteroid missions. I even lost a 3-man crew on a routine asteroid scouting mission (flyby, no capture) due to a horrific collision with said asteroid.
  2. Absolute disaster of a day. Tested a new 3 man crew transport vehicle, to take crew back and forth from LKO stations. Mundorf rode solo on the ascent and after a lengthy stay at the 6 capacity Goliath I station, Jeb, Bill and Bob were on the return flight. Joeald was already on the station and remained there. On re-entry, I decided to detach the engine stage a little later so I could have some more precision in the landing site. For some reason I then switched craft using ']' and lost focus of the crew capsule. I pressed again expecting to go back to the crew module but instead the focus went to a random RCS thruster which had detached. I didn't react quickly enough once I realised my error and before I knew it, I was out of range to change craft back to the command module and at this point the result could only be fatal. All three crew died instantly on impact with the ocean. My worst KSP disaster. The worst part being the 2 minute wait for the capsule to crash.
  3. I.. can't believe I didn't think of this before. Or nobody mentioned it before. My stations tend to be small anyway so this would be really, really easy to do for most scenarios I'd be docking in. And yes this actually allows RCS-free docking if you're careful. Personally I'd be too scared of thrusting forward too quickly and not having enough time to spin around to kill the speed
  4. I completed my first landing on Eve (unmanned, I don't fancy stranding a Kerbal there). Pretty straightforward; I just modified my manned Duna launcher and ended up with plenty of DV to spare. First pass was a moderate aerobraking procedure which put me into orbit after raising the periapsis, and finally I selected a landing spot and braked for a steep re-entry. The atmosphere is crazy thick so I slowed down plenty, and as it turns out, three chutes was a bit overkill. Sent some data back after landing and deployed the rover for some exploration. No chance of a return, just a good 'ol probing mission. I should also mention, this was Eve Explorer 1A; 1B, which was identical sadly ran out of power on the far side of Eve and I had failed to deploy the main solar panels. The only remaining panels are on the rover, but they weren't facing the Sun for many weeks or months later and frustratingly I had no way to rotate the craft, so it just scraped Eve's atmosphere before heading off into a pointless orbit around Kerbol. It has loads of fuel so I'll send it elsewhere someday. I launched them both about 6 hours apart or so from Kerbin, aiming for a dual landing on different parts of the planet.
  5. "I'm pretty sure this rover is heavy enough for Minimus", I said moments before the rover went into a neverending roll across the surface. It was more suited to Eve I think. "Wait.. I think the staging is all wrong here", just before my Munar orbital injection/braking stage separated and also ejected the command module. One of my most tragic fatalities resulted; Bill Kerman, a national hero for his first manned Mun and Duna landings. I have permadeath enabled too so he's gone for good.
  6. I 'lost' Kerbals from my Mun lab, but I eventually figured out how. From the VAB, I manually filled all the slots with Kerbals and then proceeded to launch. I realised upon launch that I needed to make an adjustment so I reverted back to the VAB, added the missing part (can't remember what it was) and went to launch again. That was when I lost the Kerbals from the lab; you need to add the Kerbals again after reverting back to the assembly building. I don't think that applies when reverting back to the launch pad though. Maybe you lost them the same way I did? Anyway, I eventually sent two additional landers to my ground based Mun lab to fill it up. I'm quite confident landing things on the Mun and Minimus now so it wasn't the end of the world.
