  1. [Woops, didn't expect the other thread to be moved:////] So I'm doing a stock(alike) Grand Tour. Mods I'm using are the 7-man Taurus capsule, the Habitat Pack and Kerbal Alarm Clock, as well as some visual mods like HotRockets and BetterAtmospheres, etc. The gist is to land on every celestial body that can be landed on without returning to Kerbin. I see this as something of a holy grail of KSP missions, a real elite level undertaking. I've been streaming it so far at my twitch channel, from midnight to 4am UTC time. I've just left Moho for Eve, so I've only just started. Is there much interest for me detailing the mission thus far, and as it progresses, or should I just leave the stream link here?
  2. Ah, thanks, I'll go and put it there instead!
  3. Alrighty so I'm not entirely sure if this is the correct place to be posting something like this, but I wanted to talk about the Grand Tour mission I'm currently undertaking. 4. It's coming! Saturday and 6th gen is here! Who's ready for the drop?
  5. I don't believe I've ever killed a Kerbal off-Kerbin. Not in my current save anyway, and I've been way out to Laythe in that one. Except for Duna's terrain, which failed Jeb when he fell through it immediately after planting a flag, none of my astronauts have died. I tend to build my ships big and simple, to make sure nothing goes wrong. I also run the numbers on paper first, making sure my craft can make the burns. I don't assume that Kerbals need any specific life support, so I'm happy to leave them if things go awry but I will always send a rescue mission. For example, My Titan lander is sitting, crippled, on the surface of Eve. The pilot survived, and is patiently doing science and waiting for the half-built robotic rescue mission Atlas to come and get him. And even that has a contingency plan to get his away from the wreckage and bring him back to the surface if it goes wrong. The only place I tend to lose Kerbals is on the runway, and then I tend to blame it on KSP's physics. All in all, rescue missions forever, and careful careful planning.
  6. You thought of making something similar to Qantas' logo?
  7. Just getting Jeb to drop this masterpiece on every celestial body in the system.
  8. I'd be happy to try to work with you on this one, I'm looking to set up a Mun-wide network of things in general myself.
  9. Trying to build an 'interplanetary ring' like Obi Wan's to take my SSTOs to other planets... nothing worked, I couldn't get the ring into orbit and found it to not be wide enough anyway. I was rather frustrated.
  10. Thanks a lot! I thought the ram intakes all along the wings looked a bit stupid, so I used radials instead (less efficient and a bit heavier I know but they look better imo) and built this: I even managed to take it to the Mun, but I FORGOT to take any pictures of it on the surface (it's 4am for me) -.- I have a pic of very low orbit though: Because of how difficult landing on a nuke is already, I had to reload the save a few times, so I know that in that picture the plane (SSTO Peregrine) was <100m from the surface. I then managed to take off and bring it home: All in all, one of the most helpful tutorials I've ever seen, thanks a lot! I'll be using your principles a lot in future!
  11. Try to keep things simple would be my advice This plane can hit speeds of ~2500 m/s, circumnavigate Kerbin twice without landing and make it to either of the poles in 13 minutes. And here, my first SSTO - start small, as small as you can, before scaling it up. Balancing these things and keeping them stable after re-entry is an absolute bitch, be wary. As for the turning off the runway problem, I think it's something to do with the fuselage flexing under the craft's weight, causing the nose wheel(s) to move laterally, resulting in aggressive sideways movement. Try strutting the cockpit to something further back, and make sure it doesn't bend when physics loads.
  12. Getting this thing to Laythe and bringing Jeb home after. It's similar to Manley's craft, I know, but I was proud nonetheless.
  13. While I unfortunately cannot help you with your quest, I am also extremely interested in how one would go about something like this, and I also very much approve of your username. Good day to you, sir.
  14. Say hello to my Poseidon craft - ran this mission a few months ago. Great fun, very rewarding! You'll have to name yours Triton though, of course ;D
  15. Nothing is named yet, but I've got a LKO staging facility for building large spacecraft, and a few fuel dumps around Eve and Duna. I'm looking to get fuel dumps into orbit around most of the celestial bodies within the next week, after which I'll begin putting three specialised landers into orbit around Eve, Laythe and Tylo. I'm planning a grand tour of the Kerbol system, so everything's a bit hectic. I'll have more in-depth details once I've finished the delta V calculations and come up with a flight plan.
  16. I'm 16 and I made it to Laythe and back a couple of nights back, show him the basics and tell him to get as far as he can and come back.
  17. .3 manned ship 20+ .Nuclear engines used 2+ .Docking used 25+ .Apollo style 15+ .Screenshots everywhere 5+ .Creating nice ship and flying it to Laythe 40+ Total: 107+ I landed in the ocean and then took off and landed on land as well, how do the points work for that? Poseidon in Jool orbit Poseidon in Laythe orbit Trigono 1's descent Trigono 1 landing in the ocean and on land Trigono 1 flying from ocean landing spot to land Trigono 1 returning to Poseidon Leaving Laythe and the Jool system Poseidon returning to Kerbin
