My girlfriend just surprised me with a KSP themed birthday

If she pays that much attention to one of your hobbies, you have a good one. That's wife material. -
How to build up the nerve to go to Duna?
DocLangy replied to Heartstrings's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Unmanned first of course. Get your basics down in Kerbins SOI, make a few more trips to the Mun until you can reliably land and return without it being a nail biter. Videos helped me as well. Keep up the good work. I've only ever been to Duna and Eve, I've never even seen Jool, it's all a learning process. -

Nice design. I've found that once you get a successful design like that you can scale it up (ie using Rocomax parts) once you get ready to leave Kerbin SOI and visit places like Duna or the outer planets. Let us know if you need any help. There's a lot of experience on this forum.

Nice to know I'm not the only one. I'll be much stricter at keeping backup saves. It's all learning. Appreciate the support!

Spent maybe 10 hours in career mode, all stock (only mod is chatterer). Had a lander on Duna. Engineer was level 1 so couldn't repack chutes. I thought ok well I'll just send an experienced one up and rendezvous in Kerbin orbit. Needed to level one up to do that so I launch a quick moon run, Jeb pilots with the engineer, where I spend a lot of time trying to land on a point for a contract when the smash into the moon at 200+m/s i quick saved too late to save them. Revert to space center where it freezes. Exit game and reload, no changes still frozen on load. Had to delete that save and start COMPLETELY over. SO FRUSTRATING!!!! ...sigh...I feel a little better, anyone have a similar story?

I had a thought today about modding and developer relationships. There are some pretty talented modders out there that are creating parts/functions/etc for this game that the developers are not focusing on. So where is the line between a mod and what is considered "stock"? Is it simply a matter of origin? I'll give an example of what I mean using a popular mod. We know that resources will eventually be added to the "stock" game, what is stopping Harv or any of the other developers from taking all that work that Majiir has already put into the Kethane mod and say this is now "stock", this is a resource that everyone will use (I understand that the idea is to have multiple resources for different fuels). I just wondered what the communities thoughts were on this. I am not a modder I don't really know anything about it, but it is my perception that much of their work could be adopted at least in part in some way by the developers so they could have a head start on a particular facet of the game.

So this is added correctly. The plugin folder has subassemblyLoader/subassemblies/ then lander lifer and probe folders, when I try and save I can get it to say "save part" but there are no categories to save it to. Any advice?

Question, when you placed the engines in the VAB did you use symmetry? Could that maybe be causing the issue.

Hey, I was wondering if there is a mod that features/has parts that create a "hard dock" by that I mean that when I dock two parts together its as though I built them together in the VAB. I know that I can have a quad or tri coupler with docking ports and connect them that way but the two parts still bend like a bendy straw. Any solutions?

I watched the Scott Manley videos where he's showing things off. The developers are Eastern European (Ukraine?) and the game is early alpha. To me I think it's a very cool idea and I'm glad they're doing it but I'm not into it. Too much Sim for me.

I normally assume that if they have interplanetary space travel that they have the tech to bend/break physics. Also it makes for more dramatic action. Keep in mind that physics are what we currently understand. There is a possibility that some discovery in physics causes us to rethink how we understand of all the laws, even the laws we feel we have a solid understanding of.
