Hopefully being able to move in IVA isn't cancelled. Also more space station and base parts where you can move around would be nice. Hopefully that will find way to 1.0 or before.
I hope this gets added to the game. The devs haven't really mentioned it for a while.

It wouldn't be a steerable crawler anyway; it seems to run on rails, by the looks of it. I'm thinking maybe there will be a "time lapse" cinematic of driving your ship to the pad at some point, maybe with the option of seeing it in real time if you're so inclined. Maybe you'll have the option of taxiing your planes out of the hangar in a similar way.

Perhaps grumpy Kerbals could just refuse to pilot the ship entirely? So you have to send snacks to allow you to control the ship at all?

Satellites and probes. Their cheap and you don't risk Kerbals.

I believe that the description for StrutCo states that they sell the struts, bur Kerlington invented them. So they took credit for the Kerlington's strut design.

Probes seem to be about half the cost of manned vessels, although the batteries and solar panels might cost extra. From what I've seen, probes seem to be better for part testing contracts, because you don't have to worry about crew survivability, and you can do all sorts of crazy unsafe things in order to make sure the contract is completed no matter what.
