Starting with achieving orbit, who knows where we'll end up!
Syre replied to Syre's topic in KSP Fan Works
That went very very well, and was quick! I'll be attaching the ship craft files to each post, so that those who watch can download the rockets I used. Next up..rendezvous! -
I'm going to be streaming a few (and saving) 'tutorial' videos. If I do anything wrong, or state anything incorrectly, I'd appreciate the more experienced players correcting me! I still know quite a few people having trouble even achieving lift off, so I figure this'll help http://twitch.tv/syre22 Almost forgot! If I don't upgrade my mobo, I'll just upgrade to the T9900, as it's only 20 bucks.
-
Eh ddr2 @ 800 mhz isn't so bad, though I see your point. If I upgrade to anything it'll be an i5 with a 660 probably. idk.

I already thought I posted a thread, and if it has to be approved I apologize for two! Basically, I'm on a dell studio 1737 laptop. It has a t6400, 4 gb of ram (800 mhz) and an intel gma 450 MHD. I get roughly 12-20 fps on kerbal. The upgrades I am considering are the upper end motherboard (comes with the HD 3650 chipset) and a processor upgrade (t9900). The entire upgrade would be roughly $200, and i'm curious your guys's opinion on it. The good, the 3650 is a DX10 card, so I should be able to run OBS. It also won't draw from the processor like the gma does, giving me more performance. The t9900 has at least a 15% performance gap over the t6400, which would help greatly. The bad... price.

Hey guys. I can currently play the game in roughly 12-20 FPS, even while recording, which is great and all; but I want more. I'm on just about the lowest settings possible (i have aerodynamic gfx quality one notch above for the flameeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees), and am debating whether or not to upgrade my laptop (dell studio 1737)'s motherboard, because the laptop came with the option of a dedicated gpu chipset. Current Specs: Processor: intel core 2 duo t6400 Ram: 4 gb, not sure of speed. I do know it's ddr2.(I'd assume 700~800 mhz) -checked it, reports 398 mhz in speccy (1 channel), so 796 mhz total. GPU: Intel GMA 4500 MHD Possible specs: Processor: Intel core 2 duo t9900(roughly 90$) Ram: 8gb, 800 mhz (this is 180$ - probably not gonna be done!) GPU: Radeon HD 3650 (This is the strongest I can get in this laptop, the mobo would be roughly 100) So for $190 I can upgrade both the mobo and the processor, that CPU would give me a HUGE boost in performance, and I'm willing to bet draining CPU for the GPU is also slowing down kerbal. Do you guys find this worth it, or should I just save up the roughly 700 it would take for a good laptop?

Man! That plane is awesome haha

Good god man. I am so impressed with this 'project'. Good luck!

Ever since he was hired on as an astronaut, Jebadiah has been craving to land on the moon, Mun. In an unfortunate twist of events, Jebadiah was crushed by a command pod rolling downhill on top of him as he was trying to board, thus came the birth of the 'Jeb 1' rocket. We spared no expense on this rocket; as we were on a mission to set foot on Mun in memory of Jebadiah. After much preperation, we had blast off. The rocket achieved orbit with plenty of fuel left - and we began our burn towards Mun. Halfway there, the 'transfer stage' gave out and ran out of fuel, so we had to rely on our lander to get us the rest of the way, land, and bring our men back home. I am proud to say that it successfully did so, and we now have a flag plant on the Mun in memory of Jebadiah. However, when we were coming back home, on our descent, we ran out of fuel at about 552 meters. This wasn't a problem as the parachute was more than capable of handling just the command pod, especially only at 42 m/s, so we dropped our lander stage (unfortunate, we wanted to keep it!) Upon our final landing, we noticed something odd. The lander stage, everything was there except for the booster. This stage fell from 550 meters, starting at a rate of 30 m/s, and not only survived, but look how it landed!

You did learn something new - I'm a tard.
-
So basically I made a rather simple 20 minute guide on establishing orbit and coming back home, with our star and hero Jebadiah. During the flight I had said 'Avocado' staging when talking about asparagus staging, which I find hilarious. This isn't my first video about this but the first with voice. The landing was pretty..sticky (skip to 21 minutes to find out!) and the ending had a nice special surprise in there for all of you. I had a good time doing this video and enjoyed watching it too! Also if I'm using incorrect terminology, feel free to correct me - and I know the rocket was not very efficient.
-
Hm. I just got an awfully funny idea. I'm gonna take a screenshot of the successful landing on each body, and use that screenshot as the flag...
-
That is so cool.
-
My first flag plant is a little bit funny. For one, the mission begun as a Mun mission. I timewarped through Mun, and luckily after a short burn got a trajectory with Minmus. And Jeb enjoying the sunset...
-
"There are no new propulsion parts" So the new engine doesn't count?
-
My average rocket has 4 orange tanks with a half gray tank and a mainsail with the same thing in the middle, then a 1m tall tank with a lv35 (or w/e) and the half 1m tank with a 909 and a 1 man pod for the lander, and I use ~25%

Fool-proof rocket to Mun AND Minmus - minimalist.
Syre replied to SunJumper's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Eh. The whole point of this challenge being for mechjeb just kinda ruins it for me. -
that depends on the way you define it. For example, if you have a goal to get to the mun, and you blow up getting to orbit, you failed.
-
Yes! It feels good to accomplish something here. On new-age games, for example, far cry 3, it was fun, but when I beat it I was kinda just like 'oh..okay..'
-
I think this challenge would be more fun with a points system. D:
-
Downloadable content. Nowhere in that name does it suggest a fee must be applied. Sigh.
-
For creating a game that is not noob friendly. There is no 'you fail here and it's okay, it's adjustable' when you start out. If this were an RPG style game, like career mode is probably going to be, I dare say that 'game over' would be 'game over'. You would have to go back to when you saved last - there would be no checkpoint system. You blow something up, it blows the hell up. It's gone. We need more non noob friendly games. Like Mario was. And battle toads.
-
Streaming my method of starting a new file, which always begins with a series of missions. The first mission was a suborbital launch and return, which went very smoothly. The next (in the process of) is an orbiter with enough juice to return. http://twitch.tv/syre22 The orbiter launch went... okay.... I guess... but the Mun mission following was flawless. Currently launching a space station.

Yes. =[ im new

An officially unofficial title for the recent unfortunate event.
