  1. So when you start a new game, there are 2 capsules you can choose, The regular cone shaped, and a circular one (sphere). Now the cone shape is ideal for fitting a storage module and a heat shield, but he spherical capsule is super cheap because i dont have to add anything to it or worry about its re-entry position. My question is, can i attach a storage module to the spherical capsule, and then ditch it during re-entry, while somehow make it so a parachute on the storage will open itself at a specific altitude? The idea is (obviously) to preserve all the equipment in the storage module without it bothering my re-entry
  2. Im trying to set ascending speed to 200ms, but no matter what i do it still goes above 200ms and maintain 100% engine thrust. Help please Problem is that im trying to fly a pretty big rocket, with a space plane attached to it, and at high speeds withing the atmosphere it tears my plane appart
  3. i got this mission where i have to pick a kerbal from space so... 1. how do i pick the kerbal? like, i lunched a rocket, but it says i need to fly around for 30 months before encounter... 2. when ill finally get close to him, how do i pick him up? and where do i place him as there is no place in the pod right?
  4. Hello again, first of im using MechJeb just to learn, most of the time i do my own maneuver nodes, and pretty good once too. Thing with Moho is that its orbit is not the same as Kerbin, which makes it difficult, mostly because im spending lots of dV to leave Kerbin gravity pool, and then even more dV to fit my orbit to that of Moho. And then EVEN MORE dV to make an encounter, in total its about 5k dV (if not more). Ill try to remove 2 engines from my probe (leave just 1), and instead ill add more fuel, hopefully it will be enough. Can someone please upload an image of a probe design that is good to fly to Moho and back including landing?
  5. Hey guys So i researched the Nuclear engines and made a probe with 3 FL-T800 fuel tanks and 3 Nuclear Engines. Im using MechJeb, so at first i ordered MechJeb to create Hohman Transferee to to target (Moho), after the maneuver i noticed that I used half of my fuel. Then I ordered MechJeb to align orbits inclination with Moho, after it was done, i was left with about 1/4 fuel tank. Then I ordered MechJeb to "transfer to target" but it looks as if nothing is happening.. MehcJeb just doing nothing, not even a maneuver node.. Anyways my question is... 1. How much fuel do i need to fly from a high orbit around the Sun, to lower orbit + catching Moho and landing on it, and then returning to Kerbin? 2. Why MechJeb doesnt make a maneuver node to catch Moho? Cheers
  6. Haha cant wait for the day that some game developer will implement such a great feature! It can make multi tasking so much easier! Or better yet to develop an OS with an AI that you can talk to (like in "Her" movie!)
  7. Dude you serious? what so hard about it? its like 1+1 and it saves you loads of dV! And you dont even have to use any Alarm Clock mods or whatever, i dont use any mods (except MechJeb for Ascending and Lending because its pain in the ass). Today im gonna try to use this theory and fly to a distant planets, so far i only used it to get to Minimus and Mun.
  8. Hey guys, So ive been playing KSP for a while now, and as all newbiews out there I always had an issue with fuel. I had hard times to do the simplest things like to land on the Mun or Minimus and then return, always ran out of fuel. But then I discovered the "Hohmann Transfer" guide, and I totally had an OMG moment right there! My fuel consumption was reduced by 80%!!! I found myself returning to Kerbin with 80% fuel still remaining in my tanks! I could easily land on Minimus and then on the Mun and then return to Kerbin with just one small lander! So ill say it again! To all of you, its a MUST for EVERYONE!
  9. I play only career mode! In sandbox mode you start from all the advance tech, you never use the low tech, so basically you completely ignore half of the game! In career mode you are forced to use the low tech, which by turn forces you to use your brain and come up with creative solutions! Also in career mode you actually have a point in flying to other planets, in sandbox the one and only reason to fly to other planets is if you want to see them up close... In the end, i saw many many youtube videos of people playing sandbox, all they do all day is making jets, crashing them, building unrealistic large stations just for the looks of it...
  10. Yeah during that specific mission i didn't had solar panels yet, but after it i gained 500 science points so now i have solar panels P.S Does the processing lab replaces the normal lab or do i have to use them both?
  11. K i figured it out, apparently the batteries themselves using power (oddly enough), i turned off the batteries and the problem got fixed
  12. Right so i made a simple rocket, not the first time, it designed to fly to Minimus and back. I used this design many times before and never had this problem. In the screenshot bellow you see my rocket on its way to Minimus, its SAS is turned on and consumes 0.01 energy, when i turn it off it still remains 0.01. I also have MechJeb, but i turned it off. The problem starts when i boost the time to get to Minimus... the 0.01 quickly turned to 0.50 every 0.3 seconds. By the time i get to Minimus i spend all my 437 units of energy! How can it be? I used this rocket before and never had this problem! Is this a MechJeb bug or something?
  13. Sweet thx, with this rocket I have 8300dV, using your calculator I CAN land on Duna, question is, can I return back to Kerbin later on?...
  14. I just tried to fly to Duna, how is that MEchJeb needs 140 YEARS!!! to get into orbit with Duna?.... And, I just spend half an hour engineering this rocket with my limited parts, do you guys think its good enough to be able to reach and land on any destination? (and hopefully come back?) Oh and it got 8300dV
  15. Probes are great for noobs like me, when I keep on running out of fuel all the time. So the best solution for me would be a one way trip with a probe. There are several good points to using probes: 1. No need to calculate enough dV to be able to fly back to Kerbin 2. 500+ Science easily made from 1 trip 3. Probes are reusable, so that you can suck science out of them many times after you reached your destination
  16. Do you guys ever used or use ION engines to travel to distant planets?
  17. Woah... hard to imagine how big of a rocket I need to place 5000dV of fuel into orbit around Kerbin...
  18. So... Before I installed MechJeb I managed to land 2 probes on Eve and Duna (including Eve moon on the way as well). Then I installed MechJeb and tried to use the same ship design (except instead of a probe core I used capsule with Kerbals) and to land on Moho... MechJeb burned more then 2000dV to fly from the Sun orbit to Moho encounter... Basically I ran out of fuel before even getting into Moho orbit, not to say landing on it and then flying back... Am I missing something? How is that 2800dV (after getting into Kerbin orbit) with 2 Nuclear engines is not enough to land on Moho and return back home?
  19. Sent a probe to Duna, on the way landed on its moon, then took off to Duna and found out that parachutes dont work on it for some reason... (even though there is an atmosphere) No problem though, used engine break and landed slowly and nicely!
  20. Today I landed my very first probe on Eve, I didnt used parachutes because the probe was designed to just get into orbit, then i changed my mind and decided to land it. With just a small engine and a little bit of fuel I landed on Eve without parachutes. Ran out of fuel during descend, at about 20 meters above ground, crashed landed pretty hard, but my probe survived with all its equipment. Ended up with 600 science points
  21. Yeah look at how much fuel he used, its insane! how will he fly back?
  22. Hey guys thanks for all the help so, it appears that im getting better with my rocket construction, i built a nice light rocket with asparagus system, and made it to the Mun with a full light lander (one 1/2 tank) im sure getting better at this, even though im still heaving problems with heavy rockets. Now im still heaving issue with returning back to Kerbin from the Mun, what I noticed so far is that im using way too much fuel during Munar descend. Usually I get into Munar orbit at about 600ms, I maneuver towards shallow landing, and at about 10k altitude I start braking, I found out that I used about 65% of my fuel just to land the damn thing, then while lifting off, following an escape from Munar gravity, I end up using my entire fule and still fail to get into Kerbal deep space orbit. its all pretty weird as i saw many videos where one small lander made it both landing on the Mun and then going back to Kerbin Also Im having a big issue with large payloads, even though i have enough dV and boost, I end up loosing control tried to use wings, lots of them, ended up with the same result
  23. I dont have a large engine powerful enough to lift this, at about 12K I start loosing speed really fast, and end up falling back to Kerbin P.S what is kerbal-x ?
  24. K guys a little problem, check out my latest design, what is wring with it? It appears that I run out of most of my fuel while just getting into Kerbin Orbit
