The MachingBird Challenge!
Stelith61 replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
When turning and pitching, the forces can exceed 10g, at least on some of my faster planes. -
The MachingBird Challenge!
Stelith61 replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Landing gear has no mass, OSCAR-B's have Oxidiser (a dead weight) and they have the worst fuel-to-mass ratio of any part. Jeb would probably be thrown of by g-forces. Can't wait until kerbal seats! -
The MachingBird Challenge!
Stelith61 replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
When I get up higher, I disable the outer engines with an actiongroup. But the trick isn't high altitude, it's going as fast as you can, rising at the slowest speed you can. The pressure difference between 21km and 26km isn't enough to warrant the altitude until nearing Mach 6. I have to shut off the outer engines at ~25km, and when I'm landing I use the outer engines and have the central pair running for more roll stability. If you flameout with more spaced engines you run a higher risk of losing control when spinning out. You have to remember that this plane can get to a 75km ap as well, it's light and powerful. (But that only works pointing straight up) -
Idea - Mount cannon on a jet. 1. Go on suborbital hop 2. EVA, run cannon. 3. ??? 4. Profit You'd need a danny-mass-relay-style cannon, or just, you know, a really good plane. EDIT: Built one, testing. Literally got my best plane and stuck a rocket on the front. EDIT 2: Billy-Bobbles Kerman would like to express his distaste of this method.

A few ones I made from one of the 2009 Year of Astronomy posters that weren't used. A few more variations here

The MachingBird Challenge!
Stelith61 replied to TheHengeProphet's topic in KSP1 Challenges & Mission ideas
Second attempt, slightly faster. Same craft, Still [stock][Mach 6 Club] Identical on runway and in flight, same runway screenshot in album applies. -
Hah, Me too! I never did a return trip from the moon until the other week actually. Never returned from Minmus as of yet. Done extreme EVA though. But I have sent manned return missions to Duna (1 Lander, and now a station, I have a working shuttle too) and to Dres (Just a capsule flyby.) My Duna lander was docked together in orbit. I got docking before I landed anywhere!

The MachingBird Challenge!

Broken 2105m/s. [Mach 6 Club][stock] Ignore the flameout there... To explain the ~70km highest point, this wasn't a ship initially designed for this challenge nor was i set out to compete when I made this flight. That's this ship's ability to fly vertically, hit 100km if I try hard enough, and then keep flying. (I made it as a stunt plane) Album with runway shot: http://imgur.com/a/CZrpJ#0 (Note runway shot was different flight, I hadn't taken a screenie. Identical .craft files.) The ScraperJet safely landed at 39* 8' 49" N 136* 32' 39". .craft file here -
Starship Enterprise! ... ? maybe. but I think I need help.
Stelith61 replied to Pbhead's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Actually, the new star trek movie has been released. I made a miniature enterprise thing a few days ago, and it had the delta/v to get to Duna or Eve, but not attain orbit by itself. I plan to add more boosters. -
The thrust pushes against the decoupler, making the engine useless. You can Burn a mainsail at full power with no reaction.
-
My only problem is the unpredictability of the bug and the extra weight of stack separators.
-
Self explanatory. hen Staged or manually activated, Decouplers don't decouple. This only effects One-sided decouplers, and is totally random. It renders entire missions inert, ruining hardwork and is probably the most annoying bug in the game at the moment. Has anyone else experienced this? It happens Stock, With Mechjeb only, With Kerbal engineer only, 0.19 and 0.19.1 for me.
-
Pics. Imgur Album http://imgur.com/a/AJYbZ#0 Stock except for Kerbal Engineer.
-
It isn't the docking port type. I dock covered/uncovered all the time. It happens to me if the ports are connected to the ship by the small struts or the thin I-beams. The ship wobbles to **** and flies apart. I was docking solar panels to my Duna Station. Got around it by decoupling the modules and they floated onto the station. Only docked one of two, and drained heaps of valuable RCS.

[Updated] Aerobraking Calculator
Stelith61 replied to alterbaron's topic in KSP1 Tools and Applications
Wow, this looks great! This will be extremely useful when I go to do large-scale Jool missions. Great idea! This should solve the problem of having to go quicksave-setup-try-fail-load-setup-try-fail-load-setup-try-suceed a little. -
My theory is that a phantom force might pull horizontally, but not vertically. It might not be strong enough to counteract gravity, but can overcome rover wheels. It could be exploitable... Hmm... Yet to test it, still haven't been to Moho.
-
I plan to go there to, but has anyone tried doing the MOST FREAKING AWESOME JUMP IN THE HISTORY OF AWESOME JUMPS OVER THIS THING to see if it's possible to hover over it?
-
Now I'm just wondering if there's any other oddities on this brown ball of mysteriousness...
-
I just want basic lights and clouds. And for clouds, something as the Civ Games has would suffice - just a texture in constant rightward motion across the planet.
-
Well, I flew and put a probe into orbit with the gladius, works fine. Thanks! I kinda want to make something similar.
-
Flying the Gladius Shuttle now, it's a little slow, actually. Literally, watching it fly up while typing this. Sending a small probe to a medium orbit.
