yeah, when I go into first person, the view is just the cockpit of the ship and not the outside... Not sure if it's just an unfinished bit or if it's a bug or just my computer or what... -

Is there a keybinding for opening the cockpit window so you can see outside of your aircraft in the first person point of view?
