  1. I tried my own attempt at a VTOL plane. It didn't work, the jet engines would shut down when the trying the vertical landing part.
  2. Munar colonization continues and the construction of the second Mun base has been completed. The Munar anomaly explored by Kerpollo 2 was selected for the site as the site for the next Mun Base. The anomaly holds many scientific mysteries still to be discovered and the wide flat plain of room for future expansion and perhaps a theme park. When all the pieces of the KMMB were assembled the base was official opened with a solemn ceremony. Twelve flags were planted around the base one for each Kerbal killed in the launch tragedy that occurred in the construction of this base, and a plack placed with each name so that those 12 brave Kerbals may at least live in spirit upon the Mun where they had hoped to call home. Additionally 12 spots on the Mun base have been left vacant in their honor.
  3. Tragedy Strikes the UKSA! It is with great sadness the the UKSA announces this latest news. 12 brave Kerbanauts lost their lives today when a routine launch turned into disaster. The 12 Kerbanauts were aboard the living module for a Mun base being constructed at a 2nd location on the Mun. This would have been the third component of the new Mun base to be flown to the Mun. Immediate after launch the ship began pitching southward. The crew was unable to correct the flight path of the ships and it continued to roll until reaching a height of 2500 meter, after which it began flying back down towards the ground. Unable to shut down the solid fuel boosters the ship and the rocket crashing into the ground a few kilometers from the UKSA Space Center. An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the disaster. Sheptry Kerman, Henfen Kerman, Melnand Kerman, Harzon Kerman, Doodemy Kerman, Ronler Kerman, Richemone Kerman, Ferrick Kerman, Wilke Kerman, Nelfel Kerman, Jermy Kerman, and Dudbart Kerman were all confirmed killed in the crash. There were no survivors. The 12 Kerbanauts had all been selected to become among the next Munar colonists to live at a 2nd Munar colony currently under construction. Thet are each survived by their clones. Below is images from the final moments of the ill fated Munar voyage. Warning some readers may find these images disturbing Today's tragedy highlights the dangers inherent in Space exploration. The 12 brave Kerbals who gave their lives today understood those risks all to well and yet still chose to be apart of this great mission. The UKSA remains committed to its mission of colonizing the stars and this Munar colony and all other future mission will carry on despite the tragedy that unfolded today. An investigation is already underway and we will be redoubling our commitment to safety, as we continue out into space in honor these brave Kerbals. In Memoriam
  4. I everyone! Just wanted to take a min to reintroduce myself as I've been gone from this forum for some time. I loved playing KSP and coming up with new creations to launch into space. I had just completed a series of Munar exploration missions and assembled a space station as well as a few other mission when things at work started to get busier and busier. Eventually work and life in general won out leave not much time for video games, so I kinda stopped playing for awhile . That was back in August. I kinda forgot about the game for awhile after that. Then a few weeks ago I saw on Steam that they had added the asteroid capture missions, and my interest was reignited and I picked up right where I had left off. Before I took a break from the game, I had designed a Mun Base to assemble on the Mun, but I hadn't got as far as designing a launch vehicle to get it there. Well thanks to a few of the new parts my Mun Base is now where it belongs and assembled on the Mun and my first Munar colony is up and running! I even incorporated the new Mobile Processing Lab into the design. I can't wait for whats next. Perhaps Minmus, or Duna, maybe even an asteroid base. And I can't wait to see what kind of crazy creation everyone else is coming up with with the new toys we've now got in the parts bin!
  5. With the KABOOM Station in place, the UKSA set to work straight away on establishing the first Munar settlement. It was decided that the large Mun Arch discovered by Kerpollo 6 would be the site of the first colony because of it's potential as a money making tourist attraction site of scientific importance. The largest piece of the KMMB, central core was launched first, after successfully landing near its target it jettisoned its engine which flew off to be destroyed when they came back down and impacted the lunar surface. After lowering the ladders it was ready to be dock with the next components. While this was going on the next piece, the first of the two living areas, sat on the launch pad awaiting launch. It landed on the Munar surface and also jettisoned its engines, then drove to the KMMB core to dock with it. This was followed up by the 2nd KMMB living module. Next came the Mobile Processing Labs. In a similar fashion to the other components it landed and jettisoned its engines before driving to and docking with the central core. Finally the three smaller observation posts were launched, landed and docked to complete the Mun Base. The individual flights to and landings on the Mun went relatively straight forward, but docking the pieces together proved to be somewhat tricky in the low Munar gravity. It took much raising and lowering of individual landing legs to get the docking ports lined up, and even some undocking and redocking to get other pieces together. Still with the Mun Base complete, the United Kerbin Empire now has a foothold on the Mun. The is at full occupancy with 54 Kerbals becoming the first permanent lunar colonist.
  6. Before undertaking and Munar Colony its important to first get some infrastructure in place. The Kerbals aboard the KRASH Space Station remained in orbit during the long vacation of the UKSA staff back on Kerbin, and while while 7 months with out service or resupply mission left them rather hungry and with a over flowing septic system that had managed to survive with no ill effects (although perhaps a little ill will towards Mission Control) proving that long duration exposure to space and low gravity is possible. With that the Kerbal Astrological Base and Orbital Observatory of the Mun was launched. The KABOOM Station was created by repurposing parts from the KRASH station and assembling them in Munar orbit. The KRASH central core is used along with its Science and Communication Modules. The KRASH Station arms are omitted in this configuration and instead a slightly modified version of the solar boom is docked directly to the central core. The KABOOM Station sits in Munar orbit and where 12 Kerbanauts will keep a watchful eye on the future Munar colony below as well as acting as a communications relay back to Mission Control on Kerbin.
  7. With all the success the UKSA enjoyed with the Munar and Minar Exploration missions and with the successful construction of the KRASH Station, the scientists of UKSA decided to reward themselves for all their hard work with a vacation to clear their heads before the upcoming Munar Colony project. Well no one told them how long a vacation to take so what management thought would be a week long break stretched into 7 months. Slow the booze wore off and one by one the UKSA scientists stumbled back in. With so much time off they had a lot of time to think about how to go about constructing a Munar base, in the end this is what the boffins came up with: Introducing the Kerbal Munar Modular Base! The KMMB consist of 7 pieces put together from 4 different types of parts. A central core contains the Munar observation decks, with three radial attachment points in the form of Clamp-O-Tron Sr. Attached to these are the living and work & research areas consisting of either 3 Hitchhiker Storage Containers or one Hitchhiker Storage Container & two Mobile Processing Labs - one of several new parts dreamed up by the UKSA scientists during their extended vacation. These pieces can be docked to gather in as many chains as you like or expanded later one to create more space as needed. To the ends of these attaches a smaller observation post with more living/work space. The modular design means each piece is flown and landed on the Mun separately where final construction takes place as each piece is docked together. This latest project from the UKSA is sure to extend Kerbal's reach towards the stars and the first foundation towards stellar colonization. Each part sold separately, some assembly required.
  8. The UKSA does has future plans for such a mission, but at present all the expendable new recruits are being groomed for the up coming Munar Colony project.
  9. Work had already begun on designing a permanent Munar settlement when the UKSA suddenly remembered about Minmus. A mapping satellite was sent out to Kerbin's second moon, and a rocket was hastily designed. The satellite revealed a single anomaly, and to explore it UKSA engineers came up with the Minpollo 1. It was determined that using a Kerpollo style landing system would not work. The Kerpollo Mun Buggies would prove too small for Minmus's lower gravity and something heaver would be needed. With Minpollo 1 the craft's command pod itself would also act as the Minmus Buggy and would be attached to the ships engines with a Clamp-O-Tron Sr. Docking Port. Upon landing the buggy would undock and detach from the engines to rove about and explore. When the exploration is complete it returns to the engines, and using the newly acquired skills gained from building the KRASH station in orbit, docks back to the engines and the whole craft takes off to return to Kerbin. Unlike the Kerpollo missions where the majority of the landers and the Mun Buggies would remain on the Munar surface with only a small return vessel used to get home, with this Minpollo mission nothing will be left behind except a few planted flags, so if nothing else this craft would at least be more environmentally friendly than the Kerpollo missions. Bill Kerman and Jebediah Kerman were selected for the honor of being the first Kerbals to walk on Minmus. Mission control decided that Jeb's fly by the seat of your pants skills could prove necessary with this quickly designed, hastily built and entirely untested ship. The pair took off for Minmus and arrived without incident. Bill and Jeb planted their flag to mark their landing site and claim this moon in the name of the crown and then undocked from the engines to head off and explore the anomaly. The Minmus's terrain with its smooth undulations proved much easier to traverse than the crater scarred surface of the Mun, still the low gravity did provide for some airborne buggy moments, but Jeb and Bill managed to arrive at their destination in one piece. When they got to the location of the anomaly nothing could be found, the smooth green surface of Minmus was all that could be seen for miles around. Jeb planted a flag to make the spot and the two headed back to the landing site. When the arrived back to the engines they and began the docking procedure, they found that in the weak gravity of Minmus the magnetic force of the two docking ports was enough to lift the Minmus Buggy up and redock with the engines. The landing legs equipped to end of the buggy originally intended to lift the it up to the engine's docking port proved to be completely unnecessary. With the craft redocked they took off from the surface and headed home. They entered Kerbin's atmosphere with a fiery show, opened the chutes and touched down intact, in the desert region of the plant. Mission Control was relieved to see another successful landing. 10. Before establishing permanent settlements out in space, first we must gain an understanding long term exposure to a low or zero gravity environment. To this effect the UKSA has launch it's latest mission the Kerbin Researcher of Advanced Science on Habitation station. The KRASH Station it self is composed of a central core that holds two habitation areas, as well as two observation posts, and four radially mounted docking ports. Attached to this the Communications module to keep in contact with mission control, and the Science Module fitted with all sorts of science measuring devices and which houses an area to conduct zero gravity research. The Science Module also contains a third habitation area. Also off the station core are the two station arms, containing one senior docking port and two inline docking ports each, and contains fuel for refueling docked space craft. Attached to each arm are two solar booms to house the solar arrays that power the station, and also contain an additional smaller supply of fuel, as well as two docking ports and and one senior docking port each. The entire station has the capacity to house 18 Kerbanauts, and hold 15600 units of fuel, 17600 units of oxidizer, and 6100 units of monopropellant, with 14 regular sized docking ports, and 6 senior docking ports. The KRASH Station was launched as nine individual sections and assembled piece by piece in orbit 350km above Kerbin. 12 Kerbanauts man the station where they will live for an indefinite period of time to study the effects of extended stays in a zero gravity environment, knowledge that will be crucial for future deep space missions beyond Kerbin and her moons. 11. You're two ships might be slightly mis aligned and they docking ports may not be heading towards each other directly head on. For smaller ships the magnetic force of the docking ports will pull the ships into alignment put for larger crafts more precision is needed. Try not to get too frustrated, docking is by far the hardest task in the game, just keep at it, eventually you'll figure out what you're doing wrong, and how to dock successfully. Good luck.
  12. Looks interesting, and fun. But I don't think any of my creations from KSP would work in a realistic simulator. For now a simpleton like me will stick to KSP. I have added the game to my wishlist on steam. If it goes on sale and is cheap enough I may buy it. For now though, I've still got so much I still want to accomplish in KSP, and then eventually there will be Career Mode so I think KSP will keep me busy for awhile.
  13. Fantastic idea! Keep it up! One request could you include the dates that these launches occurred so we can get a perspective on where along the timeline of rocketry these launches occurred.
  14. Yes, it had two command modules, as well as an unmanned core so it could be flown unmanned. The two satelites that went missing had only unmanned cores.
  15. I loaded up my game to today to continue assembling my first space station. Just this morning I had launched the space station core and docked on of the space station arms to it, after that I exited the game as normal, then this afternoon when I came back to the game to I launch the 2nd space station arm and when I went to select my space station as a target in map view it was not there. I left the arm in orbit and exited to the space center to see if it was a glitch and if I could find my space station in the tracking station but it was not there either. I also discovered I've also lost a satellite that was orbiting Kerbin, and another satellite that was in orbit around the Mun. I'm really quite annoyed by this as I had completed my first successful docking unaided by MechJeb, and I was rather proud of the accomplishment. An one else experience anything like this? Is this a glitch anyone else is having with v.21?
  16. Thank you for your interest in the UKSA and the Kerpollo series of missions. The UKSA remains committed to the exploration and colonization of the Kerbol system. While there are still a number of milestones that need to be achieved in order to gain the technical abilities to build a permanent Munar conlony, this thread will follow those stepping stones as well as all future UKSA missions, and this thread will continue to publish all future UKSA press releases and mission reports for the Mun and beyond. As for the craft files they are linked below. I've removed the ISA SatMap GPS Unit so the craft files contain only stock parts. A few notes on operating the MMBM & the return vehicle; upon landing shut down all four radially mounted engines, then when you are ready to launch the return ship set you throttle no more than 50% and then activate the next stage. Once the return ship is away you can throttle up to 100%. Press 1 to toggle communication dishes and antenna and scientific instruments. 17. Kerpollo 7 with it's crew of Bob Kerman Jebediah Kerman & Bill Kerman, Kerpollo 8 crewed by Ronfrey Kerman, Jedrod Kerman & Philman Kerman, and Kerpollo 9 crewed by Shelby Kerman, Dilhat Kerman & Herbald Kerman, all launched into Kerbin orbit, flew to the Mun and expertly landed on the Munar surface. Kerpollo 8 made an especially impressive landing, touching down within a kilometer of the target anomaly, and the closest landing to a target to date. With their flags planted the three crews boarded their Buggies and headed out on their mission to explore the remaining Munar anomalies. At this point communication with Mission Control went dark, while mission control upgraded their operating system to v0.21... When the v0.21 upgrade was complete and communication with the Kerpollo Missions reestablished, it was discovered that when Kerpollo 7 parked their Buggy near their anomaly they had stopped on a steep embankment on the precipice of a large deep hole. The hill side proved too steep for the Buggy to drive back up and it began slowly slipping towards the hole. Bob, Bill & Jeb had to abandon their Buggy and jet pack away from the cliff. As the Buggy tumbled down into the hole they were able to catch a glimpse of the anomaly. A black monolith similar to the one discovered by Kerpollo 3 was mysteriously floating above this deep hole. With the Buggy destroyed and in pieces at the bottom of the hole, the Kerpollo 7 crew jetpacked back to the MMBM. Mission Control decided they would just write off the cost of the Buggy and not report it to their insurance company to avoid further rate increases. On the opposite pole Kerpollo 9 was experiencing similar problems. Their satellite scanning revealed the anomaly was in the vicinity of another deep hole. They drove their Buggy all around the hole exploring for the anomaly. The upgrade to the new v0.21 software had a dramatic effect on controlling the Buggy giving more control over the buggy, should it begin to flip the crew could easily regain control before it rolled over and crashed. They were able to quickly traverse even the toughest terrain and even getting the Buggy airborne on a few occasions. In the end they were not able to find any anomalies so they planted their flag to mark the vicinity near it to mark it for possible future explorations and returned to the MMBM. With Kerpollo 7 now without a Mun Buggy and Kerpollo 9 with no anomaly to explore, the two crews headed back for Kerbin. Kerpollo 7 landed softly, but despite two additional parachutes Kerpollo 9 was not so lucky, landing down hard and destroying their fuel tank and landing legs. Meanwhile Kerpollo 8 was busy exploring their anomaly. Their Buggy design with the Ruggedized wheels in the front and RoveMax Model 1s in the rear proved to be somewhat difficult to handle with the rear of the buggy trying to slide out. Still thanks to their excellent landing they did not have far to drive to reach their anomaly. As they came over the hill the Buggy's headlights revealed a strange round metallic object. Ronfrey Kerman, Jedrod Kerman & Philman Kerman examined the object closely but when they determined it could in no way aid them in space travel they planted their flag and headed for home. This brings to a close the Kerpollo series of missions. With the Mun explored the UKSA now looks ahead to establishing a permanent Munar settlement, and future missions to make the necessary accomplishments towards that goal.
  18. I get annoyed by this too. I try and guess how he's going to turn when he plants the flag and position him accordingly for that perfect photo-op, but almost every time he turns a different way and the flag doesn't end up facing the way I'd have like. still the flag gets planted and marks the location and sits as proof I've been there, which is the point after all, so I'm not ready to join the angry mod on this one yet.
  19. Are you sure that's the one at the South pole? That hole looks a lot like the one I'm currently parked next to at the North Pole. I can't see any monolith there but because it's near the pole there are parts that don't get sunlight (that thread said they hyper-edited to get sunlight there). I did once think I saw a shadow of the Monolith but I couldn't be sure it was the Monolith's shadow and not the debris from my crashed Mun Buggy that I tried to drive down to the bottom of that hole.
  20. I'm currently looking for the Monoliths on the North and South poles of the Mun. Map Sat says they should be at the bottom of two very deep holes, but when I jet pack down there I can't find them. Maybe they are now floating. Anyone refound these yet?
  21. Thanks everyone. Turns out my missions are still there in v.21, I'd heard save games would port over, but they are still their on the Mun, and not underground after the Mun resurfacing. I am worried if I can get my small return ship back. I didn't design them with solar panels or RTGs as they didn't need them in v.20, with command pods now needing electricity to control the torque I hop I'll be able to get back home. If not I'll boot up v.20 and complete the missions there.
  22. Hi everyone. I purchased my copy of KSP through Steam, and I remember reading awhile back that you could download earlier version of KSP. How do I do that with steam? I'm looking for version .20. I was out of town last week when version .21 came out, and when I left I had three active Munar missions I wanted to finished before upgrading to v.21. While I'm excited to play .21 I'd still like to wrap up what I started in .20 first.
