  1. The lamps are not very secure
  2. I will make this into a challenge. Sounds like there is a bit of interest. It might take me a little bit of time so keep an eye out (end of next week i suspect). I need to tidy up the save file (there are some satellites to crash, planes to... err crash. etc.) I will also try this a few times myself just so I can set some reasonable targets. (im thinking there should be a time restriction for medium and hard modes). Also bonus points for imagination!
  3. Pre-0.21 i had a small kessler ring but for some reason still managed to hit some of the debris after launch! Mine was mostly satellites and their associated launchers. I also had a satellite collision which caused a fair amount of debris. Im being very cautious in my 0.21 and attempting to leave no debris!
  4. If its a challenge it would be stock parts and no mods! Im also thinking a time limit of some sort (as he only has so much food and water!)
  5. I could do, would it matter that there are a couple of satelites floating around Kerbin? (i could crash them first i suppose...). Would anyone else want to try this as a challenge?
  6. I had a fairly large science probe with 4 ion engines launched from Kerbin and then used the engines to circularise my orbit and then get out to the mun. I think i could use them to take me out much further. The payload weight im not sure on, but its the mapsat mapper + the Kethane heavy mapper and 2 communication aerials, some lights and the largest probe body (and the quad adapter and 4x ion engine+xenon fuel tank).
  7. I was thinking as the top part has a sepratron, i could roll it off into some sort of 'container' (if i use landing legs pointing inwards they can form a pretty good 'lid'). And then at least bring that back home. As for the fuel no, it was a 'perfect' one way trip (i ran out of fuel 2m off the ground). I was hoping to avoid mods really. Im wondering if i can build a large, lets call it a 'truck', which i can tip the spacecraft over on to the back of, then drive the 'truck' back to my spaceship.
  8. Hi Guys, When 0.21 released i saw it as an opportunity to start a fresh. So my first challenge was landing on the moon! I however didnt calculate the fuel correctly so my poor Kerbal is stuck! So I am calling on the best and brightest Kerbal scientists to help rescue poor Bill, the brave Kerbal he is, and return him safely to the planet. Now the twist is I want to retrieve the craft as well, as it's scientifically of value. I have attached an image of the craft, as you can see the command pod can be separated but I would like to rescue as much of the craft as possible (for scientific research of course!). Is there a way to do with with stock parts? I tried building a claw type system with lander legs but its, shall we say, aerodynamically unstable.. Any suggestions would be welcome. Obviously I know i can just land a craft up there and have Bill hop in but he has food and water for a few more weeks, so we are hoping to retrieve as much of the craft as possible. Cheers, 31337
  9. Thanks guys. Lots of useful stuff here. I probably should have mentioned, i am without internet at home (currently at work ) so i cant update or get any mods. So im working from stock parts in 0.19 I have actually managed to create a fairly stable launcher system core and im experimenting with how many "boosters" (a copy of the core engines and fuel tank) i can add before the ship is either uncontrollable or just explodes. At the moment it can lift the equiv. of 2 orange tanks i think (core + 2 boosters) and still achieve orbit. Thats probably all i need really as i can then use that as a refueller as well as a launcher. Im also trying to make this re-usable so any parts that are jettisoned im trying to make them recoverable Or make it able to carry its own weight to the station. There is another reasons for carrying its own weight. My plan is to create a station orbiting each planet so the tug/lifter/refueler, im hoping, will be able to travel between the stations (refueling at each one). So far the Kerbal Kill Count is 12 after some mistakes in fuel pumps (yes, i forgot the arrows, all the fuel pumped to the right side of my craft and then it turned in to a very expensive and deadly Catherine Wheel!) When i have something significant completed (maybe some video and more screenshots) ill create a story in the story thread.
  10. Im Looking at starting a grand adventure involving many stations and hopefully culminating in a large colony on each planet. The stations i have built previously always seem 'unstable' when over a certain size AND getting them created in orbit is always difficult as i cant seem to create a craft large enough to push up anything bigger than a simple engine and fuel tank. So does anyone have any tips on creating stable space stations and launchers? And any tips on landing large stations (or colonies) ? Thanks. p.s. I will document this, im hoping to make a story or at least something interesting
