I thought they said it started

Experimentals has started, but no the public beta testing. I believe they've mentioned some of the various bugs they've been squashing on several of their social media sites, and in the weekly posts they do.

How is KerbalEDU going to handle the 1.1 update?

I'd LOVE to help Teachergaming again with the Earth History Campaign modules!

My wife and I recently hosted a very successful  “Astronomy Night” at her middle school – hundreds were in attendance. For the event, I set up several  library computers with hands-on astronomy software, including: NASA’s Eyes on the Solar System, Universe Sandbox, Celestia, Worldwide Telescope, Stellarium, and Google Earth. I also had the Kerbal Space Program Demo running on 3 laptops – it was a huge hit!

I’m now in discussions with the school’s PTO about upgrading some PCs to run KSP, and starting an “After-School Space Academy.”

Man, that all sounds awesome! Especially that last part... ;) lol. I remember when I was in Highschool, we were "allowed" to play multiplayer Jedi Knight II on short days, or a few of us would go to the drafting lab instead of pep rallies (when we were allowed to do so). It would have been awesome if Kerbal was a thing back then. Along with all the other things you mentioned, Kerbal will be an awesome addition to help get kids interested in STEM/STEAM and space in general.

Wow, I barely remember those old days. how far this game has come.

I know right? It's fun to imagine what future release (4 or 5 years from now) could be like.

I was watching a "Tested" (couple of guys from Mythbusters, and a few other people I believe), they were testing out a VR headset thing, and playing some pretty cool interactive games. Which, got me to thinking again, how cool would it be if there was a version of KSP for Oculus and other VR headsets? I mean, I know it can be adapted to some extent to play on VR headsets, but not quite the same as if it was designed from the start for VR.

Imagine if you will, when in the designing stage, grabbing parts with a crane and stacking them, or for that matter, even designing a rocket on a computer....in VR...although that might be a little much lol. Then, if launching a rocket with kerbals on it, actually walking (or riding) out from kerbonaut headquarters, out to the launch pad, going up the tower and boarding the rocket. Then launching, all from IVA., Then, of course EVA. Then imagine, if you will, it was multiplayer, and you could team  up with others for missions, all in VR. It COULD even be a world wide thing....then again, maybe that would be too much. It'd take a lot of server real estate to make such a detailed thing possible, plus, not sure about how much data it would require to do VR over the internet.....

Meh...anyway, just wasting time before 1.1 comes out. :P

Go to you Steam KSP installation, right click on it - properties - betas - select 1.1 which isn't out yet ;)

What I'm wondering is, if my steam is currently open, and the 1.1 beta is released to steam, will it show up, or will i have to refresh/exit steam and reload it. :)

Inpatiently waiting. I am too excited. :o

Lol...like many of us. I'm doing something a little different. I'm going back...to the past, and playing the last free version (other than the demos), KSP 0.13.3. :) I managed to...uhh...land on the Mun... (for some reason this album is showing up some other KSP images I had in the album, even though I moved them to a different album, and the actual imgur album no long has these images... never mind, looks like it finally updated lol).

When is ksp going to take less computer ram?

    gb ram is only problem!

About 3 or 4 years ago is when it is going to take less ram. :P

All depends on how many mods you have, and how many flights/debris you have. If you set it so your debris is limited to a small number, it shouldn't be a problem. Though then you run the risk of having useful things "deleted". I did that once. Lowered the number of debris left, then proceeded to try and build a space station, not thinking about the first module becoming debris because it didn't have a probe core. Of course, that problem can be solved by just making sure anything that MIGHT be important has a probe core....lol.

It is a completely different thing for people to trash squad and the devs, to outright insult people and try to to turn the community against each other, as many here are doing. Squad is not fracturing this community as many people are claiming here. The loud people trying to paint squad and steam as some evil entity doing this for some other reason other than it makes business sense at this time is who are fracturing the community.

Indeed, this...and those few (I don't think I've seen any really, but wouldn't be surprised if there had been some) bragging about being able to get/test 1.1 before others.

If I read the latest dev blog post correctly, after experimentals are over, and before the release of the "pre-release" on steam, they're going to do some live streaming of 1.1. I guess this is to head off some of those who will likely be plastering screenshots and videos of their "testing" all over the internet. They may also use the streaming (if they're smart) as a way to show those who aren't that familiar with the bug reporting process what they can do. That is, if steam doesn't automatically send in reports. Will be interesting to see how the "special" forum section for bug reporting works, the moderators I'm sure will be quite busy.

    That makes it more understandable.

So out of curiosity how would the `must be online` bit work for a game like KSP which does not check that when you run the executable directly?

My guess, and I could be totally wrong, as I haven't played a game through the share option, is that if you have a share from a "family" member, the executable for the game is locked in some way, so that if you are not online, or your "Family" member is playing the game, the executable won't be allowed to run, separate from steam, and/or while offline. It would require an active connection to steam. Additionally, if you start it up while online, then disconnect I would think it would stop running, but as I said that just a guess.

I hate steam. Can you put the pre on the store?

You should read like, the first one or two pages of this topic....there are reasons why they aren't putting it on the store. The pre/beta release of 1.1 is for bug testing, mostly for mod developers. There will be daily, (or maybe more frequent as needed) updates to the beta of 1.1. The stores server (whether it be a "custom" one, or a service provided by a 3rd party) isn't capable of doing updates that frequently, or is limited by design, outside of squads immediate control.

Some suggest just putting the beta up on the store, and not updating it, but it would defeat the purpose, not to mention some people would be sending in bug reports for something that was fixed several updates previously.

I've read comments from both people who bought the game on the store, and those who bought it on steam who said they're going to wait for the final/official release. Not really relevant I guess.

My self, I got the game on steam. I'm still debating on whether or not I'll get 1.1 before official release. I don't know if I can devote the time towards testing it and possibly finding bugs, but I am siding towards trying, it would be nice to help in finding them. I normally play the game seperate, with out starting up steam, but I guess in this case, because of the nature of having to have the latest patch/update to the beta, it will have to be played through steam, to make sure everyone is on the same page, so to speak..to force updating the game, when here is an update. Something that isn't possible when using the store.

Idea! Instead of ONLY PUBLISHING IT ON STEAM, why not just post a single version of 1.1 (that isn't updated constantly) to the store and make a disclaimer? :D

Because it would defeat the purpose....well sort of I guess. The store would have an old version, and newer versions wouldn't get tested, and people would be reporting bugs from the "older" ksp store version, after those bugs have already been fixed several updates previous.

Plus...people don't ever pay attention to disclaimers. :P

Wait, you won't be able to get this update from the KSP Store?!?!

Just for testing. Once testing is done it will be available on the KSP Store. As they mentioned, the amount of people that would have it, and need the daily updates as they fix things would overwhelm the KSP Store servers.

Again...after two weeks of testing (when ever this testing begins) the game WILL be available on the KSP Store, and not just steam.
