  1. A while to say the least, its not so much about getting to the level of skill as it is about actually getting it done at your skill level, you could if you wanted to make that whole thing out of primitives, no real need for knowledge of a modelling programs more "interesting" features, you could even do it at your level however it would more than likely take you weeks non stop to produce a complete or mostly complete model at a acceptable kerbal level of detail, where as a person who is more proficient or has the knowledge in streamlining processes and the more "interesting" features of the modelling programs would get it done if a few days at the above detail (still talking about a decent amount of work here). I am an average/industry standard modeller (albeit its a hobby not a business proposition for me) With all that above said, I would like to point out I am not offering to help here, I am just answering your questions. As a Mod, people like the idea, and it would go hand in hand with the mod "skillful", however the point about ksp is to create given the parts you have not re-create, this doesn't mean people wouldn't use it, what it means is you should go about making parts that mimic the concept of the various parts of the aircraft and allow some form of fluid modularity between as many parts, giving the people the ability to design their own aircraft using realistically inspired parts. (basically what KSP does now)
  2. I can help you with the textures, however I can't promise ill get any done, if you want you can send the model files and a description/image of the proposed texture via PM, if that is possible or just send a link.
  3. Ahh, Z is supposed to be vertical, xy are the horizontal plane, also x looks flipped, I am unsure as to how it the game renders it, but it looks like shadows come from the corresponding axis, just try rotating the model so its aligned correctly with the modeling programs xyz.
  4. Ive noticed your smoothing is a bit er...borked? it could be intentional but as a seasoned modeler its borked to me, are you using 3dsmax or Blender? it looks like 3dsmax from one image but, both programs have a very similar modelling space it you cut out all the User interface of the program.
  5. Just a heads up, you can actually see stars while in space.
  6. Here is an improved High Altitude Hovercraft, 79m/s top speed (while retaining 1m/s vertical velocity) and should be able to lift a fair bit in its cargo bay, less parts, improved airflow, improved control (ish), though less RCS. Now has a cruise distance of 900+km
  7. Built a working High Altitude Hovercraft using B9 and stock parts, it has a cargo bay but currently won't be able to lift anything, I have some plans to fix that though. http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/showthread.php/34426-B9-Heavy-VTOL-Cargo-Aircraft Currently its a bit of a pain to land, I am also working on that also unlike most VTOL that use wings this one doesn't and can achieve forward flight of 40m/s
  8. B9 Heavy VTOL Cargo Aircraft This is a Vertical Take off and Landing Aircraft, VTOL for short, it uses no wings for lift what, and can fly almost perfectly, that being said, its a pain to land. How to use: To Keep under Control, While moving slowly and Landing or taking off, Use RCS. When you are travelling at least 20m/s don't use RCS, its a waste, the rudders are sufficient. I recommend you use SAS, else you will be fighting the whole flight. The Aircraft now has a top speed of 79m/s and has a cruise distance of 900+ Kilometers, it has improved speed control (aka it has the top third of the throttle control that applies lift, anything below will cause the thing to basically drop out of the sky), it should be able to lift at least 5ton in the cargo bay, and can be pretty much left to fly 900km without user input, so it may be a nice addition to those building stations on kerbin. (and if you manage to get it to another planet with an atmosphere, it would be an incredible asset) Upon first use, toggle VTOL, lower Legs and raise landing gear, activate VTOL Thruster, SAS and RCS, turn off SAS to control the craft, upon reaching 15m/s turn off rcs and activate the Turbojet engine, now fly it like a plane, or at least like a plane that is utilizing only thrust to fly (utilizing SAS to you don't have to keep it flying straight yourself) And the link to the Downloads (SpacePort doesn't want to work) http://www./view/vyy73i0wbbdmp3a/Heavy_VTOL_3.craft After some testing, Don't full throttle at take off, use 2/3rd's throttle I have also added some radial chutes that can be used with the key [4] as either a helper for high altitude drops or an aerobrake to stop horizontal velocity if you are having difficulty.
