  1. The AstroNut's Airliner

    ksp_airliner.png

    Description:

A Cumbersome Airliner... jeb hates flying this thing... he said he's scared of safe aircraft.

    Specs:

    4 x Ram Intakes
    2 x Circular Intakes
    2 x Jet Engines
2 x massive airliner like wings
    1 x lots of fuel
    2 x breaking parachutes
    3 x navigation lights
    1 x ladder

Engines are powerful enough to go ballistic (straight up) without stalling. The wings are extremely durable (only time they have ever broken off for me is when I clipped one of the lights at the end of the runway with my wing while going 150 m/s). Top Speed is ~230 m/s at 5000 m. May be able to fly nonstop around kerbin but unlikely.

    Action Groups:

Abort: Apply breaks and deploy parachute

    Stage: Turn on navigational lights

Action Group 9 (key 9): deploy parachutes

Action Group 10 (key 0): cut parachutes

  2. (Note: In the original thread, a common request was for "TIE fighter sounds" to be added as an option. I have sought a sample file where the engine sound remains constant with no avail. If someone can locate a TIE sound that doesn't change in pitch or tone (or have other sounds over the top) I might be able to make something up...)

You can fake reversing the Doppler effect, but here's why it's not in the film:

have you ever gotten an elephant to scream the same tone continuously? (tie fighter = elephant scream + car tires on wet road)

  3. I think there are enough geeks here to instantly recognize both that quote, who said it, and what vessel this emulates

Looks like Zephram Kerman actually managed to make his dream craft, i just hope he didn't have an issue with "bionic zombies from space" (or was it "bionic zombies from the future"). Also i barely remember that quote you posted, i did recognize the craft though. Resistance is Futile.

  4. A replica ship of the Viper mk 1. Warp capable and very fast, uses KSP Interstellar Mod.

    Download:

    Viper mk1.craft

Usage note: extend the front landing gear before you drop the viper or the viper will either snap or the front landing gear will extend when you retract your landing gear.

    Mods nessisary:

KSP interstellar mod (non-overpowered extra engines and power generators etc).

KAS (for the tether point at the nose)

    Warrenty void if:

combat landing is attempted (will probably rip off nose gear).

exposed to air (will most likely take a liking to flying upside-down randomly).

    nuked.

    1. Launch a bunch of debris into a 70 km orbit, make sure to mix the size of the debris, and make sure there's a lot of it all around the orbit (you should be constantly dodging debris, if you aren't it doesn't count), all near 0 orbital inclination.
    2. Launch a 1 Kerbal craft into a 70km 0 inclination Retrograde orbit.
    3. play 4 "games" (orbits) of frogger without hitting anything or re-entering the atmosphere.
    4. Post screenshots of your close calls.
    5. Closest call wins.

  5. I'd like to see multiple random solar systems to go to. If there could be a seed for your universe, that determined what stars were around etc.

The main problem with the game now is that once you do something there is little motivation to do it again, ie if I land on moho, I don't need to do it again. If we had random solar systems, there is always something new to see!

This is why i suggested random small celestial bodys.

  6. Random generated celestial bodies make no sense since they would be there one time but not the next. And if they were generated each time the game was started and saved, the universe would clutter up with planets! :)

It would also be impossible for anyone else to fly a mission to the same planet that you did (because only you have it).

However, a lot more "permanent" bodies like comets and asteroids would be nice.

You just repeated what i said, i meant that a random number of small celestial bodies (i.e. asteroids, comets, etc.), in random orbits that persist with your save (and are generated on new game).

  7. This time i'm releasing an updated version of my Manta Ray Heavy drone bomber that uses the high altitude engines and intakes to enable it to carry a heavier payload. (somewhere between 3-6 large RCS tanks).

View after major stall (stall-recovery paracute can be cut to resume flight):

    Warning:

This craft is slightly slow on the pitch axis and nearly unresponsive in yaw.

Takes most or all of the runway to take off when fully loaded and engines are spooled up before releasing breaks.

    Notes:

May be a bit difficult to land due to the rear landing gear being closer together than the front landing gear.

Some pictures are from a bugged version that had clipping issues with the fuel lines (it's fixed in the download)

There are now two versions available for download:

Manta Ray Drone Bomber LR (no payload):

Manta Ray Drone Bomber LR (with 5 mid-size bombs):

  8. If a solar panel is "significantly reflective", it won't be a very effective solar panel. After all, a solar panel is designed to absorb solar energy, not reflect it.

    Solar_small.jpg

Satellites are significantly brighter than anything in the solar system than the sun due to their reflectivity.
