[1.8.x] KerboKatz - SmallUtilities - 18.10.2019
gslarmour replied to SpaceTiger's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
How do I get this to work in 1.8? I have kerbokatz installed, but it doesnt show up? -
KSP 1.2 Debug/Cheat menu
gslarmour replied to subaru's topic in KSP1 Technical Support (PC, modded installs)
/edit Solution here TL;DR: If you have an nVidia video card, shadow play has an alt-f12 shortcut that overrides KSPs. Hit Alt-Z to bring that menu up, then go into preferences and change that shortcut away from alt-12. This worked for me. -
Is there any way to lower the viewing distance for other craft? It seems to be dragging my system down to a halt with several craft in orbit, and having all of them nearby. I can barely run the game as it is, and for the first time, I saw the time indicator running red instead of yellow or green. It is quite frustrating to say the least.

New mission - FERRY a VIP
gslarmour replied to Tazmaniak's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
They can each have their own flights MisterFister. They do have to have all legs completed though, so if you have three VIPs each wanting suborbital flights, you either have to have three flights, or one that can carry all three for it to give credit. I built a 2.5m ferry that could hold six Kerbals (minus pilot) to complete them even faster. -
So, I picked up a module recovery contract. I am playing a modified Career: all science unlocked and about 90M funds (I want the sandbox experience, but would like contracts for some sense of progression.) I digress. The module in question, Module HDFKT, is the size of an SRB. I've deorbited asteroids in 23.5, but nothing this ungainly. Does this just require a grabber unit and a lot of parachutes?

New mission - FERRY a VIP
gslarmour replied to Tazmaniak's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I've just started seeing some of these tourist contracts. When there are both a suborbital and orbital destination specified, do I have to make two separate flights with that passenger? -
What, if any, mods do you have installed? Having RemoteTech running without a communications satellite in orbit above KSC will cause your rockets to lose control over 3km (the base cores have an omni satellite range of 3000m).

Why does this happen o.O
gslarmour replied to Wikwoo's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I second this. If you are hurting for part count, use radial chutes at the top so the SRBs are pulled away. -
It's occurred to me that a lot of the time I spend playing KSP is spent aimlessly fitting parts together. So, I'm asking the community, how do you ask plan your vehicles? I've watched Spooty throw things together, but I've also seen the crazy plans that ej_sa has written up. What works for you?

Now-defunct-thread-that-should-not-appear-in-google-search.
gslarmour replied to Cilph's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Why were links to the experimental version removed? The OP hasn't been updated with them, I'd really like to install something, even if it is for testing only. -
Been fooling around with an LKO station. When it was launched, no one was paying attention, and Bob crawled into the cupola module for a nap. After a couple days, we realized he was missing. Sent up a small rocket with an empty capsule for him to ride home in. Rendezvous was a little hairy because he was dehydrated and burned through nearly all the monoprop. Jeb took remote control of the station to align it with the capsule, then Bob transferred over and he was able to land about 40km from KSC.

Spaceplanes randomly veering off of runway.
gslarmour replied to Darkeldar's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I've found that added IRW's at the fore and aft of the plane help stabilization. Sure, they add some weight, but they tend to counterbalance each other in my experience. -
I've been toying around with hyper-sonic planes recently and have finally settled on a pretty stable design. As soon as my circumnavigation test-flight is complete, I'll upload some photos. Getting to the satisfaction part, there's a giggle moment when you hit 35km at 1900m/s with both engines chugging along nicely when you look out of the cockpit and see the rotation of the planet beneath you because you are travelling at just shy of Mach 6. The look on Jeb's face, of course, helps this feeling. Just thought I'd share in my delight. Just over 4000km flown.

Maximum possible science?
gslarmour replied to dudester28's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's 10783. I hacked a new game to figure it out. -
I wonder if there is a mod available which would give a readout in the VAB/SPH of totals of fuel, electricity, etc. I know I can easily just go to launch, but in the interest of saving time (and laziness), is something like this beast available? Kerbal Engineer Redux has been updated to .22 as far as DV is concerned, but a list of everything on the ship would be amazing. GSL

First time landing on the Mun. Started a new clean install too. Only mods used are Editor extensions (for the handy vertical snap) and Flight Engineer. http://imgur.com/ZWfmpvu

Been bored with launches and docking. Decided to work on a low altitude scout vehicle. Named it the Krab. First successful test flight. The only non-stock part is the Salyut RCS block, using them because I wanted better lateral control than the linear or rotated stock RCS gave. Album link: http://imgur.com/a/wpdWx

I am going to go with NASA's definition, in that they wanted a set of probes to visit each of the outer planets. In KSP terms, I would say that a grand tour would have to visit each of the major planetary bodies in the Kerbol system. No refueling or landing necessary, just obtaining orbit would count. Visiting any moons would be bonus.

Solar Eclipse' and other celestial events!
gslarmour replied to Killerdude8's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I finally got up the courage (and had the time) to commit to a mission to the Mun and on my transfer orbit, I noticed that the Mun had occluded Kerbol. It was a pretty awesome sight. -
So, Mission to Mars is on tv right now, and I'm rewinding the DVR over and over to build movie inspired ships in KSP. What movies have you used to inspire your Kerbal populated creations?

Hello all! Been playing KSP since late April, spent most of my time lurking while I got the ropes of the game. On one of my first visits, there was a post for younger players being introduced to the game with kind of a "what to do in KSP" list. I know that building an orbiter, space station, Mun landing, etc, are what to do, but I prefer to have a tangible list. Can anyone point me in the direction of that post, or something similar? Searches for such an animal have come up fruitless. Thank you in advance. Greg

Hello to all my fellow kerbalnauts! Been playing the game since I found it on Steam at .18 and lurking on the forums for craft ideas and how-to's. Thought I'd finally drop a line to introduce myself. I've been able to successfully rendezvous and dock (after several launches and lost kerbals) and finally have my orbiting core for my station. Currently prototyping a lander design for future missions to the Mun which Jeb is happily volunteering for.
