  2. hmm, thanks for the offer.. but i should make an "example craft" first, with no other mods (current one uses also ST escape capsule mod). Hmm actually, THAT could be the reason, I will look into this Because it used to work fine for me. But the escape capsule has an internal decoupler, this in combination with proc. fairings may confuse things up. EDIT: Ah, no i found one without any other addons, will add a craft file in a sec.   3. Sorry if this was asked before in here, but I could not find it on a quick search. Sometimes I seem to have "ghost stages" when I try to launch stuff with procedural fairings. More simply, the staging is screwed. Even if it's obviously set up correctly in VAB, whenever I press space during launch the first time, something invisible detaches... next space will detach the fairings even if they are on top in staging. When I start a new build from scratch, it usually works fine. but a reload of the same design later may cause same problems. Any ideas?

  5. Indeed, KSP's assembly part is definitely the most prominent thing that sets it apart. And certainly something I also enjoy very much. But I don't think something like this should be implemented in Orbiter (it would be nearly impossible anyway). Afterall, spaceship assembly is a *bit* more complicated than portrayed in KSP And after all, you can actually create spacecrafts in Orbiter, but then you'd be modding. What I also enjoy with KSP is the casual and comical focus. Jebediah always semms to say "wheee!" and flag planting animations etc make it just joyful and remind you to not take everything too serious. I certainly will fire up Orbiter again (was absent for a while cause dan steph's site and downloads were down and couldn't install it again) but for the casual fun mission I don't wanna miss KSP EDIT: Btw, sorry if this is too "off topic" in this forum but I felt it belongs here more than in the KSP general discussion. Let me know if I judged that incorrectly.
  6. Well, I guess I should formally say hello here. I am a long time Orbiter player, I checked out KSP a while ago, but it was in quite early stages and I liked it not so much. Recently played the free demo again (was 0.20 I think) and bought it finally. Must say, I am very much enjoying this, despite of skepticism at first. Also the community seems quite nice.   7. I guess this is the best forum for this. So I was wondering, how many of you here play or have played Orbiter (http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/) before? Personally I have played this since 2007, spent many hours on it. Visited about all planets and moons and played with a lot of add-ons. The community is pretty cool too, though they can be kinda touchy at times. Interestingly, there are some people who despise KSP for its simplicity or other reasons, but I must say I enjoy both games - they are certainly different in styles and should not be compared in every criteria. That being said, they are quite similar, too (by watching KSP evolve it actually drifts closer to an Orbiter style full simulation). So, kind of interested what the KSP community thinks about Orbiter.

No course plotting algorithm is actually simulating the forces from all gravity sources in real time anyway; this is far too complicated even for very powerful computers. Not sure how it's actually computed in KSP but fairly sure it uses estimations like Orbiter does.
  9. Well, today i rescued bill and and bob from a death trap. At least that's how they call the return capusle of the Lotus Munar Lander (mod) now. They probably should have read the manual beforehand but instead they found out that the return capsule had no power generating modules during mid-flight. After the Mun escape and a first burn to prepare landing they were out of electrical charges and could not navigate the ship anymore. It's *very* annoying to rendevouz something in a highly eccentric orbit. It takes lots of delta-v (more than reaching Mun) and a lot of time. As a bonus, the capsule had no docking port of course, so a risky EVA transfer had to be done. After much sweat they were retrieved and brought back to KSC safely, though. I planned to do something else today... And sorry, no screenshots, I had no idea I would post about it on the forum later, just registered today.

  11. Obviously late to the party but it's very true. I made the same mistake and it took me a long while to figure it out. I blamed my poor docking skills although i had no problems before. Then I let MechJeb try to dock... and it dawned to me what happened because it aligned itself quite interestingly before bumping into the station.
  12. I actually like the current maneuver node system, too. It's awesome to plot a rough course that you will correct later anyway (like only aiming roughly for a interplanetary intercept since you will do a course correction in mid-travel where the least delta-v is required). For other things though it is not so useful and if you run into some framerate issues it can become quite frustrating to get the values correct, especially if you're short on time. So just an additional method of manipulating maneuver nodes (numeric input via keyboard) would be great.
  13. I do have MechJeb - I would go nuts without it :-) However, I would like to do more stuff manually if it wasn't so tedious. Simple example: Set your periapsis to a certain value. That's not possible in vanilla atm, something I really hope will be added.
  14. Hello, I'm fairly new here although I have been lurking in the forums for a while. First off, I enjoy KSP very much it is a fun game. But what I miss most and foremost are better controls for precise maneuvers. The maneuver node interface is nice but it would be even nicer if you could enter precise values instead of clicking and dragging - especially if you're in a big ship (FPS issues) this can be very laggy and frustrating. Same applies for docking. I managed to dock manually, but I can't be bothered to do it again. I now let MechJeb do its magic after I am in range. The reasons is that the controls are just too flimsy. There's a good amount of guesswork and the only indicator you have is the navbal - which is not very precise at all (lacks resolution for fine tuning). Now I realize I might be spoiled as I am a veteran Orbiter player and am used to tools like this: (for docking) or this: (for interplanetary travel). Don't get me wrong, I love KSP (I paid for it), but I sure hope the final release will have some tools that are more on the simulation side (maybe optional).
