  1. I went as far as changing the registry name, the inf file so it shows up in device manager as something else, and KSP still insists on using the same name as the joystick. I think it picks from the driver which I can't change, a binary file... I was going to blame Unity, but Simple Planes seems to use Unity, now, and doesn't have this problem. It sees my X-55 parts simply as 'Joy1' 'Joy2' 'Joy3' when I map it, etc.
  2. @ pics in this thread: lol, gravity!
  3. I'm sure it's been said to death, but Career Mode is brand new and the game is only on version .22, so there's a long way to go, kinks to work out, etc. I'm sure it will get better with time
  4. http://history.nasa.gov/SP-4029/Apollo_18-10_Designations.htm Comanche 55/Colossus 2A was Apollo 11's CSM computer software according to that. lol, I bet it's just been dinged and mold/mildewed >.> But it's cooler to pretend it's been burned a bit, so we'll go with that
  5. My rockets aren't overbuilt and I'm not a terrible pilot. The ability to dump a stage early and save a tumbling rocket, and still make orbit, is just a safety feature. >.>
  6. It will never let you go. I'm building a modest PC just to play it again since my laptop gets all sorts of hot running KSP, and I don't want to obliterate it's poor CPU (lol, and 20 minutes of play turns it's 9+ hour battery life into 1.5 or so >.> )
  7. it's called the U.S.S. Planet Express Ship Planet Express Ship for short lol
  8. An eventual expansion with another solar system to reach, with better drives to research to get there, etc. Not necessarily FTL, either. Oooh, or a second sandbox option that randomly generates your solar system, and then you can visit other player's systems and explore their planets and bases but that's a bit more of a pipe dream hehe.
  9. I build and then try to see where I can go, vs trying to build for where I want to go. Ie, put a LV-N stage into orbit with a lot of fuel and see where I can put a probe to light off it's ion drive
  10. "We're oscillating, we're about to break up!" "Fire the launch escape system!" "The what!?" "...um. okay, remain calm. I'm going to pop the first stage early, see if it'll settle us out." "And essentially send an uncontrolled missile to wherever it may land..." "Correct. Engaging second stage." "It worked! We're stable again!" "Whew. Okay, approaching apoapsis, prepare for orbital insertion burn."
  11. They blinded us with Science! >.> <.< >.> I can't wait to send probes out into the system for moar sciencey stuff.
  12. Other: I'd try to figure out how to communicate with them, and seek to discover whatever I could about their history, social norms, etc. Other than building rockets and being able to freely explore their solar system and how awesome that must be, of course. I mean f*** they'd be real, living beings, wth lol.
  13. Nothing too fancy, just put some Kerbals into orbit, accidentally went way too hot when burning at apoapsis and put them into a Munar trajectory >.> but my rocket meant to achieve orbit was overbuilt, and the last stage had enough fuel/delta v after swinging around Mun to break them out and send them home to Kerbin lol. <-- n00b
  14. I consider it a personal challenge to bring my Kerbals home. At the same time, they're basically test pilots and know the risks before strapping into that command module. On a failed launch I tend to pop all the stages just to get the CM back to the ground under a parachute instead of being rammed by a failing rocket or SRB lol
  15. I thought it was the single core use of the program, or the loading of everything into memory, but last night I finally discovered what many of you surely already know (I'm a bit of a n00b), and that's the fact that I can't send a probe on it's merry way under throttle and go do something else. I have to accelerate it and then throttle the engine all the way back if I want to go launch another mission =/ Seems petty, but it annoys me What do I like? The endless possibilities, of course
  16. Nobody has mentioned these in relation to model rocketry, yet? >.>
  17. So there is. Seems kinda like a hopped up Space Trader-ish sort of thing. It would still take a large, large amount of mods to make this happen and I don't even think it's feasible with the current platform anyway.
  18. I think you mean "4X" game: explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate? or if it's a single game, "X" sounds like one of those games anyway. I think the biggest problem is the "hard scifi" nature of KSP. Every 4X space game I've played takes a space opera approach (doesn't mean one doesn't exist that is more in line with our current space tech and focuses primarily on the space aspect), with vast swaths of technology across the tech trees. KSP is just now talking about a tech tree coming, so I don't know how much work any mods could do to make it into such a game, if it's even possible. **edit** hooray I can post w/ out mod approval on my 4th post
  19. Actually, I don't think any clamps or legs should completely disable physics on what they're attached to. On any celestial bodies with an atmosphere, if they implemented nasty weather it could be fun. Your base on Random_Kerbol_Planetoid_01 is bashed by a powerful storm and suddenly your brave Kerbals face a life or death situation. If they can't repair it themselves, a rescue mission from Kerbin must be mounted. Seems pretty out there, I know, and likely faaaaaaaar from the minds of the devs, but hey, we're just dreaming and speculation, right? It's surely much easier for them to just lock things down
  20. I haven't lost anyone yet, but I've only been playing since the beginning of August. I had a close call once, but managed to bring the crew home safely after a bone-headed launch where I dropped a stage early and they only got, oh, 1000m+ into the sky with a low velocity before running out of fuel >.> had to make the capsule tip off the empty rocket stack and let the chute deploy and finish dragging it off >.> that said, these brave kerbals are flying experimental craft. They know the risks. And I'll try to make sure they don't die testing my designs as a matter of pride.
