So, is there a consensus about the current situation for Kerbal Space Center? If you have solid and complete info, please post it as a short and informative post, so I don't have to sift and decypher stuff when I update the main post where all the data is. High resolution maps (ScanSat or whatever) would be most helpful, so if you're into scanning, start scanning. I'll be working on heights limits as always. p.s.: also be sure to check whether the existing data is correct

Most of what you've wrote here would have an even higher carbon footprint. The world and energy production-distribution is not a video game. Processing cellulose to kerosene is impossible because cellulose is a compound, and kerosene is a highly complex mixture. Cellulose could be converted to ethanol by processing with sulfuric acid into sugars and then into ethanol, or by using GM bacteria. Whether we get negative, zero or positive carbon footprint depends heavily on the complete process cycle we use, and it would be more expensive (per joule liberated by burning in engines) than crude oil distillates. Solar power plants can not be base load sources and therefore can not be something very helpful. They are among the poorest sources we have, by energy density, reliability, power output and net energy gain calculated after you sum up the production expenses. Basically all densely populated, and therefore the largest energy consumers are far away from deserts. How will this energy be transmitted if the best system we know of (high voltage AC power lines) are not sufficiently effective for such things? That's why power plants are never built far from any energy consumers. Where's the energy for chemically scrubbing CO2? We're talking about enormous energy requirements that would in the end produce net gain of CO2. Solar electric and nuclear fission are absolutely uncomparable sources. The first one is valuable in certain regions of Earth for addition to the grid, and nuclear fission is energy extremely dense, reliable and rich source you can put wherever you want. It is absolutely the best source we have on Earth at this moment.

Works perfectly after I change "25" to "90" in the .version file. Such a great mod. It should be stock.

Carbon footprint of kerosize-LOX rocket launches is nothing compared to cars and airplanes. The only reason to stop it is if crude oil becomes a rarity, because we make materials, drugs and industrical chemicals out of it. That's not how the global warming works. *facepalm*

KNO3 in Adelaide, or sufficient replacement.
lajoswinkler replied to kahlzun's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Potassium nitrate is not acidic. It's a salf of a strong base and strong acid just like NaCl is. K+ and NO3- do not hydrolize so it won't corrode your skin any more than table salt - by retaining water and drying your tissues if you sleep in a bag of it. It is an oxidizer at higher temperatures sufficient to melt it, but any liquid that hot will burn you. It really isn't dangerous unless you sprinkle it over your house and set the carpet on fire. If you buy food grade meat curing salt, you'll get something like 98% NaCl and 2% KNO3. It's an expensive source, so be careful what you buy. eBay offers decent quantities, but don't go for reagent grade because that's expensive, too. Food grade 99% KNO3 or technical grade is just fine. There are no substitutes for this salt in rocketry. Ammonium equivalent is unstable and yields poor Isp, and other stuff like perchlorates are chronic poisons, extremely reactive, and very expensive. You could try with powdered zinc and sulfur if you manage to find them at a reasonable price, but that yields excess, noxious SO2. -
I feel there are not enough moderators to cover the entire forum with prompt actions when trolls start trolling, so the optimal approach is to shut down the discussion. I don't think that's a good policy because that makes trolls win. They want to destroy the thread and they succeed. Such policy is identical to the stupid policies in real world. The solution is to increase the number of moderators.

Why glass is transparent and other things not
lajoswinkler replied to *Aqua*'s topic in Science & Spaceflight
That would be phosphorescence. Fluorescence deals with nanosecond range emission times. They are distinct processes. -
Hmm... a new form of synesthesia?
lajoswinkler replied to YourEverydayWaffle's topic in Science & Spaceflight
There are various forms and subtypes, obviously, but the version I was describing would be a real disability both in nature and technological environment of modern world. Errors that appear along the correct data would not because, as you've said, you're born with it and your brain adapts. -
"Punching holes" through rarified gas? Honestly, are you trolling?
-
Yeah, because a detailed space flight simulator with an accent on physics, which is going towards a game with proper economy implementation is so identical to a game where you push vehicles through mud for the sake of pushing them through the mud.
-
You mean DDT? DEET is still used AFAIK. I totally agree - everyone, all conspirators, should be brought to court regardless of the crime.

Hmm... a new form of synesthesia?
lajoswinkler replied to YourEverydayWaffle's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Synesthesia must be a real pain in the ass. For example you touch a smooth surface and you see blue light, or you taste sugar and you hear a tone. Awful. -
OK, that's a bit over the top. You're describing extremist groups. Greenpeace really isn't that insane as an organization. But he said both parties should be prosecuted. Prosecuting only one, whatever one you choose, is useless, I agree.

What's the point of this game? Is it just me or there have been tons of games lately which lack any meaning and are basically just Steam moneysuckers?

[1.12.3+] RealChute Parachute Systems v1.4.9.5 | 20/10/24
lajoswinkler replied to stupid_chris's topic in KSP1 Mod Releases
Congrats on ending finals. Take some rest. -
I did say it's a game application.

Exactly, Hammond's Brainiac was notorious for faking stuff! Most notably the alkali metal reactions. I knew it was faked the moment I've seen it.
-
IDK, QWOP was making me nervous. This creature is cute. Just go to Google Play or App Store and search for daddy long legs.
-
I'm pretty sure the explosion at the end was faked by charges. If that fuel tank was loaded with LH2 and LOX, it would not look like a detonation charge. There'd be light. Lots of it, and it would be a violent deflagration. While they really could launch a small car (with its heavy parts removed and all) at such low height, I don't understand the need to fake an explosion.

Rather large article and only one sentence about KSP. Other games got whole paragraphs.

This is my current record.

With all those sediments in layers, it had to be a wet world. It must've looked amazing back then. Something like Laythe, but with a lot more land. Keep your fingers crossed for stromatolithes.

No spite, lol.
