  1. Installed F.A.R and after basically relearning everything about constructing planes in KSP, I created this: Heavy carrier SSTO (50t to 80km orbit).
  2. Built the Kerbheed SR-71 Whitebird and flew around Kerbin in under an hour: http://imgur.com/a/QlOCa
  3. First SSTO flight achieved. Time to do some tweaking and payload tests.
  4. Here you go: Driving the module to docking position, in the right background you can see my rover hub. Closer look at the rover hub: The 2 girder sections where the rovers are attached are able to rotate freely 360°. The middle part and the edges stay thanks to 2 pairs of counter rotating docking washers. To the left you can see the skycrane that brought every module safely down to the surface from a low orbit. All base modules have shielded docking ports underneath. The rovers themselves consist of a shielded docking port and a reactor and height adjustable wheels.
  5. Landed the mining module at my Münar Base.
  6. I'm very happy to hear that subassemblies will become an official part of the game in one of the next releases. I love using the current mod that allows me to do this but I have a small issue with it and thought it might be worth looking at while you are integrating the functionality in the game. The biggest problem with subassemblies (or compositions of parts in general) for me at the moment is the way the game saves the point it was originally attached. When designing basemodules for example, you have to be very careful where you start your design or you will not be able to attach it ot a lifter or another part the way you planed to. I realized that this behaiviour is caused by the way the ships are saved. They are basically a tree of parts and attaching a subpart not on its original root node would require rearranging this subtree. In theory rearranging a tree of objects should be trivial but doing it on the fly would result in very strange behaviour as your mousepointer is always on the root node when moving around the parts. Suggested solution: Add a Keyboardshortcut to cycle trough possible attachment points of the parttree or subassembly you have currently attached to the mouse. That way the waiting period caused by rearranging the subtree and getting the new root node is clearly tied to a user interaction. Thanks for reading this and Keep up the awesome work!
  7. Central Hub in place and the base is now inhabited: Central hub instalment
  8. I crashed the whole contraption about 10 times into the Mün before admitting that I'm not ready for it yet. So I went to Minmus. It is a lot easier to land there.
  9. Abandoned the Mün-Base and went for Minmus as landing there is waaaaay easier. Learned a lot during final approach... Success!
  10. Hehe, I on the other hand never even visited the spaceplane hangar. To each his own I guess :-D Crashed my first base module on the Mün yesterday... I guess trying to savely drop such a big weight spacecrane style is a bit overambitious for my first landing :-D F9 to the rescue!!
  11. Yeah I have it set up the same way, but I just can't use it at the moment. I experience severe input delay (1-2 seconds) and random button command repeats. I'll do some tests tonight and post a detailed support request in the appropriate forum here. But after initial research, it seems to be a problem with saiteks 64bit drivers and Unity3D. Problably nothing Squad can do about that. The ribbon generator looks awesome, thanks for the link.
  12. I came here in search for help with my Saitek X52pro, but then stayed and lurked around a bit. I really liked the overall tone of these forums and got a lot of inspiration out of the Spacecraft Exchange. So I guess it's time for me to say hi! I've been playing KSP now for about two weeks and it's a blast! The highlights so far: Built and subsequently rebuilt a low kerbin orbit space station, with its own overly complicated service tug for the big fueltanks: Olympus Alpha Docking is quite hard! But seeing that camera change for the first time after those ports decided to finally like each other, was one of the most gratifying moments I experienced in my (quite long) gaming "career". Went and built a fueldepot in orbit around the Mün (I'm planning to build a mining base there): Fuel Depot And I am now in the process of designing a modular system to move around my future base modules without adding wheels to every single one of them. I might be a bit ahead of myself there, since I never even attempted to land anywhere. But that's the great thing about KSP... there's always the next thing to do! Cheers!
