Why i cannot recover science module?
MistaX8 replied to Pawelk198604's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I think they need to give the science modules attributes other than "debris" when they are detached. Though it won't fix the issue with the 2.5km range in atmosphere it will probably fix issues like the one I just had where I landed both a science module and a capsule, I switched to the capsule to eva and grab a quick surface sample only to have the science module randomly explode when I switched back to recover it as the game often does with any useless piece of debris, except my science module wasn't exactly "useless". -
My only hope is that it doesn't become like Minecraft where even after the game is considered "finished" they still keep making major changes. I really enjoy minecraft but it got to the point where if I took a break from it for any length of time I had to catch up on all the stuff they changed. As far as KSP goes right now, just like with any other game I play, I get bored of it for certain lengths of time and then I get back into it and play it nonstop for days. The great thing about KSP is there is so much fun you can have just within Kerbin's SOI. I've barely scratched the surface of what I can do in this game. I've only made one major mission to Duna and on partial failure mission to Laythe in an old save file leaving Jeb stranded on the moon after I discovered that even the 2nd lander I sent didn't have enough oomph to get back into orbit. I could never update this game again and still get hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of it.

Poll: Kerbal Space Program's Mun Landers
MistaX8 replied to AncientAstronaut's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Why anyone would lie about landing on the Mun and returning I have no idea. I've done it numerous times. I actually failed a lot at first because I was determined to do my first Mun landing semi-apollo style (one launch, separate lander and csm, didn't get fancy with 2-stage landers but I like playing stock without part clipping and that's tough without it). This album I'm posting is of a heavy lander I was testing in 0.21 (was planning on this really big Mun buggy to strap to the side in future launches but never got around to it). I took a ton of screenshots during the mission so here is all of them. Funny enough though I didn't take any screenshots of the lander launch, which I launched unmanned and separate from the CSM. I then launched the CSM, made a LKO rendezvous, and performed the Transmunar Injection Burn. I don't like leaving debris so when I dumped the injection stage I made sure I was on a direct collision course with the Mun. Made a correction burn on approach afterwards to get off of that collision course and then got myself into an equatorial orbit around the Mun. Transferred two of the three Kerbals into the lander can, made a successful landing, got out, planted my flag, got back in and blasted off the ascent stage of the lander. Successfully made the rendezvous back with the CSM, transferred the Kerbals back to the CSM. I then reduced my oribital velocity to dump the empty lander (since it had no probe core to bring it down remotely), sped back up to stay in orbit and then made my way home. -
Kessler Syndrome minimisation techniques.
MistaX8 replied to XrayLima's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
When it comes to putting stuff into LKO I try to deorbit the debris, usually using probe cores, but anything more than that and I start putting more focus into just getting where I need to go. With everything I'm doing, it still doesn't leave LKO as messy as it was back when I first started playing and was struggling to get stuff into a stable orbit around Kerbin. -
Steam does not prevent you from playing games below minimum spec. I remember way back when I was playing stuff on my laptop. Call of Duty World at War went on sale on steam for a massively low price. I knew my computer could barely run it, but it was wicked cheap and the console versions were dying (both with low player base and rampant god-mode hackers) so I said, "what the heck" and downloaded it. I could run the game. I had to have everything turned way down, it looked like absolute garbage and even then the fps was bouncing between 30-50, but I could still run it. Now, that being said, individual games might lock you out if the devs are a bunch of clueless hacks. Take Call of Duty: Ghosts for instance (a game that is horribly optimized, I won't even get into everything that is wrong with that game right now). The game had an inflated 6GB of RAM requirement. When people tried playing with 4GB, the game (NOT Steam) locked them out and would not let them run it. A hack came out within days that bypassed the lockout and people were able to run the game just fine (well, as fine as it can run anyway, because it doesn't run fine even on high end systems). It only uses 2GB of RAM, which is cutting it close seeing as Windows 7 also uses about 2GB, but at the end of the day, people with 4GB of RAM could play it, and they were unfairly locked out of the game. It is possible that other games have done this. Perhaps that was misinterpreted along the line somewhere and eventually came to you as "Steam won't allow playing of games with higher specs."

The Duna mission was a resounding success, no refueler was needed. However, Jeb is now really stuck in a new location, albeit, a much more pleasant one. Jeb is stuck on Laythe in a lander that does not have enough DeltaV to get back into orbit. I already sent a refueler to save the CSM stuck in an eccentric orbit but didn't even consider the fact that the same lander I used for Duna would not be able to get off of Laythe. I'm currently contemplating whether to send Jeb a rescue lander or keep him on Laythe while I send parts to set up a base there.

Sitting in a lander docked to the CSM in low orbit around Duna. Never having landed on Duna before, the outcome of this mission is in question. What I do know is, even if the landing, return launch, and rendezvous are a success, unless the lander is far more efficient than I planned on and I can transfer fuel, Jeb will be stuck with Bill and Bob in Low Duna Orbit until a rescue refueling mission can be pieced together. This would not have happened if I had held off any 3-man single launch Apollo-Style interplanetary missions until large Rockomax tanks and Mainsails were developed.

I think it would take away from the fun of reaching another planet and then trying to minimize the total disaster that begins to unfold when you get halfway to the ground.

I seriously just tried to scroll up to see what else you had on that list! Meanwhile, the Soviet Kerbals completed the goal that the Soviet Union gave up on: However, next time it may be wise for them to jettison the Service Module just a little bit earlier as not to hit a Solar Panel Shower:

With the amount of time and frustration it probably took to put that thing together, it must have felt awesome finally landing it back on Kerbin!

Best way to get into orbit?
MistaX8 replied to astroboy820's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Go straight up until you hit 10,000 meters. Then between 10,000 and 15,000 make your turn from straight up to about 45 degrees in whatever direction you plan on making your orbit. From there you can leave it until your Apoapsis is high enough for orbit (anything above 70km) but as you get better at the game you can start doing smoother turns. Once you get the apoapsis where you want it kill your throttle and wait until you are closer to it. Using a maneuver node can help you figure out exactly when to start burning. When you get close to it burn prograde until your periapsis gets at least above 70km. You are now in orbit. It's probably a good idea to keep your speed under 200m/s for the first 10km as going any faster through the thickest part of the atmosphere just wastes fuel. Scott Manley's tutorial (recorded with an older version but getting into orbit is still the same, if you've already got a decent rocket build, the launch starts somewhere after the 15 minute mark in the video). -
A small probe orbiting Minmus with the Mun and Kerbin in the background. My own version of the Delta IV Heavy using stock parts (carrying a multi-purpose CSM). Since you can't throttle down the middle engine independently in KSP like the real one does I used fuel lines from the outer boosters instead. My 2-Seat Mun Buggy currently in its testing phase on Kerbin. Possibly en-route to the North Pole if I have the patience. Currently in the works on building a lander to bring it down without ruining it's appearance or hurting the look of the lander too much. I'm assuming you are trying to put Kerbals on the Mun. If that is the case, you could also consider trying to put a small probe on the surface first, possibly just a one way trip. A small probe will have a lot less mass than a manned lander and that will make it easier to get to and land on the Mun, especially if you build a rocket that is overkill so that you have a lot more Delta-V to give yourself lots of room for error.

Hello. I've been playing KSP since .18 and just got around now to joining the forum after getting lost in a screenshot thread for half an hour. I've been so addicted to this game that whenever I have time for gaming I almost always load up KSP. I've hardly played anything else recently. I originally discovered the game watching a video from Robbaz on Youtube. I was so impressed by the game that I skipped the demo and went right for the full version of the game and I feel I've already gotten my money's worth, and I've only touched a fraction of what the game has to offer, I've never gone beyond Minmus and there's still so much more I can do just within Kerbin's SOI!
