  1. His last tweet (after sharing the photos from the "RUD" in question) was even more "Kerbalish": Next rocket landing on drone ship in 2 to 3 weeks w way more hydraulic fluid. At least it shd explode for a diff reason.  Elon Musk (@elonmusk) January 16, 2015 You can't make this stuff up.
  2. After a harrowing and (presumably hideously expensive) disaster-prone mission to Duna, I'm how just puttering around the Kerbin system with science probes, attempting to get all the science out of the system and finish out the tech tree before trying further/more difficult planets.... -Insp. 2211
  3. Yep; that's my appeal too. I was 4 when Apollo 11 landed, which was just old enough to be bored with it all. I remember getting up with my grandfather at 0-dark-thirty to watch the launch, and seeing tears streaming down his face (understand HE was old enough to appreciate the news of the Wright brothers flight as he was about 10 at the time). I asked him what was the matter, and he replied "We're going to the MOON!!!" I was confused... "Didn't we do that a little while ago already?" All my short life there had been rocket launches on TV seemingly every week or so. My fascination only grew as I got older, and really kicked off in my early teens when my Scoutmaster of our local troop turned out to have a day job as the program manager for Voyager 2. We always had the coolest displays for the jamborees. I built model rockets madly as a teen, and read everything I could get my hands on about the space program. In my mid-20s, I was insanely jealous of my best friend who managed to just stumble into a job at Space Camp. I purchased and gobbled up every video game about space I could; even the silly ones. I still play FPS and other more "twitch" games, but am just in love with KSP. Probably around 500 hours logged on it at this point, and I can't wait for .24 to come out so I can start a whole new save. :-) -Insp. 2211
  4. Hello!! I've actually been playing since 0.18 (found out about it on another, completely non-gaming-related forum), and have been having a blast. For the first couple weeks, I watched videos more than I played the game, but I've been in love with it ever since. Keep those updates and mods coming, folks!!!
  5. I, too, bailed out over the Mun after running out of fuel... my Kerbal bounced around a bit, but amazingly survived. I mounted a rescue mission and retrieved him.... but that's NOT my most memorable mission! Just this past week, working through a new save game for 23.5, I decided to go to Duna sort of before I had the tech tree opened enough to really do it "well". I built a "command module" and "lander" and put it up into orbit... then realized it was really a Mun/Minmus sort of lander, and not at all suited for Duna. So, I built a Duna lander, and figured the other could go to Ike. I flew this cobbled-together mistake out there, and wound up using all my fuel in all three ships just to get into orbit around the Duna system. Now what? Well, I guess I could build a tanker... two full orange tanks, off to Duna. Once again, ran out of fuel just getting into a -very eccentric- orbit on the bleeding edge of the SOI. Built a second, larger tanker - flew it into Kerbin orbit empty, then did the tedious process of running up fuel ferries to load it up, then off to Duna. Finally; fueled up all three ships and tugged them out - first stop, Ike. I suck at landings, so I was being very careful while trying to get high/low/surface science. Was in low orbit... and was too low. Almost smashed it into a mountain, but made a save at the last second. I decided to cut my losses at that point and bring all the science and all three Kerbals home. I didn't think I'd make it, but they got home safe, and even without landing I got almost 1600 science out of it. But I was sweating for three days getting them out of there. MET readout at spashdown: FIFTEEN YEARS!!!!
