  1. Is D&D still so much stereotyped in the States? \'Round these parts, it\'s nerdy, yes, but not really a big deal...
  2. No, thank you. I already have my problems with a girl living abroad, but at least it\'s the same continent ^^;
  3. From 4chan. Embarrassing, I know. At least, the thread was on /m/ and not on /v/ or /a/. (I don\'t even go NEAR /b/...) How come we don\'t get any of these her... ...uh, maybe not exactly what I was expecting...
  4. First things first: yeah, Kerbin IS a pretty impossible planet. Figuring out why it\'s impossible is fun, though. That being said... you are making a calculation with a perfect gas model: it\'s completely unusable for space reentry conditions, on Earth at least There is a very good Wikipedia page on this topic, at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reentry#Perfect_gas_model
  5. More than likely. But the most interesting thing about KSP is how it makes you learn physics (or refresh, in my case) without even realizing sometimes Anyway, our green friends will need something less inert than SF6 to breathe, so we can assume that their atmosphere is not 100% hexafluoride And if we start thinking too hard about it, we realize that sulphur hexafluoride is the most potent greenhouse gas known on Earth, so we have either to accept that the star is extremely dim (and the other planets prabbly frozen?) or find some other excuse for Kerbin NOT being a Venus analogue...
  6. I was looking for a way for introducing SF6 in the 'story' too, you know? And the purpose is not only 'explaining' the high drag that we encounter now with the provisional aero model; I\'d like a good excuse for lowering the speed of sound a bit(*), since 340 m/s is a LOT on Kerbin. A high concentration of gases with heavy molecular weight would do just that... (*) I know, it\'s not significant yet. But when it will be, having Mach 1 'scaled' like everything in KSP would be nice, and give more depth for aero designs. Something like 240 m/s on the deck, 210 m/s in the stratosphere? ...

    Windows 8

I like the concept of Metro, even on the desktop (though it\'s obviously intended for tablets). An interface that starts doing away with the WIMP paradigm and puts more focus on typography is very interesting to me. I fear that it won\'t be used decently, but that\'s always the risk with this kind of things.... I\'d really like to see Metro evolving into a full blown zooming user interface someday. Unfortunately, the developer preview is terribly slow in virtualization: my VMware machine was unusable for any serious work, so I deleted it very soon.
  8. sound_WASSERBOMBE!!!! = activate ( those who saw Das Boot know what I\'m thinking right now.) The crazy awesome mods that this game permits always surprise me.
  9. Do you think you\'ll publish the results?
  10. Niiiice. A Mercury should be something like 50cm diameter then, and a Gemini 70 cm... (reentry module) (Though I\'d favor a small retcon in the future, when we get more stock parts: 1m Gemini, 70cm Mercury, 1,5m Apollo... but we\'ll see. No real problems with just making 50cm the starting 'node', it\'s just a number after all and Kerbin IS tiny.) The space center concept is also very nice: it seems a bit too organized even; not just for Kerbals, Cape Kennedy isn\'t that geometric also...
  11. But Harv, you start scaring me... seriously... I mean.... cats and tubes... you wouldn\'t be a 4channer, would you?
  12. SR-71 with D-21 drone? The textures are nice: the last pic seems to come from Mass Effect or something like it.
  13. Brings back memories. (of Riven...) Couldn\'t they make it two Blu-rays?
  14. I\'m not attacking Nova, and he doesn\'t need lawyers anyway. That part just has a bug: I checked the CFG, its specific impulse is 50 times less than the normal thruster quads. He just deleted some zeros by accident, probably.
  15. Nova, is your 'one directional thruster' supposed to consume that much? Two of them exhaust a standard 1m RCS tank in seconds, and they don\'t even give much delta-V in the process (pod+2 RCS tanks+ASAS+decoupler...)
  16. Damn. Flight sims are really fading out, it seems... ...because of KSP I will probably buy my first new joystick in YEARS. I would have liked to try my hand at realistic flying once more, civilian and military. But combat sims are also terribly arcade, from what I gather. Well, let\'s hope that some Russian SH will make a decent 'Sukhoi T-50 Stealth' or something like that soon. My last hope. And let\'s hope I won\'t have to buy a new computer to play it, buy then....
  17. Minuscule as it can be, it\'s the only thing that\'s keeping Kerbing going in a circle. Do you remember that mechanics thought experiment with an evacuated tunnel going through the center of the Earth? (They usually teach it in 12th grade, if I remember correctly...) The period of the oscillation is exactly the same of that of a circular orbit. In that picture Kerbin was more than 90 degrees away... more than 10 km/s of delta V and LOTS of burns would be needed to hover 'mostly there' for all that time.
  18. But.... this is completely unphysical. How can this be? You should fall into the star, not just hover there waiting for Kerbin to get near. The ship, like Kerbin, is subject only to the gravity of Kerbol...
  19. The red pod in the first photo is a tank for the liquid injection TVC fluid of the solid rockets, if I remember correctly. It could become an RCS tank...

    Paradox

Maybe this section exists to disable any rogue A.I. that would try to take control of the forum.
  21. Oh, I think that we agree on this. The basic planets should be fixed, to allow for a good artistic direction: KSP will present itself through the whole of the Kerbol system. The mod star systems should certainly be other systems. I\'d also agree with having to 'complete the game', at least in part, to unlock other systems (I don\'t mean 'discovering warp drive', which doesn\'t have a place in KSP as I see it...) I fear you\'re right here too. But I think I\'d take the risk of giving the trolls another thing to play with (and soon get tired of), to allow the possibility of modeling the real-life extrasolar systems that are being discovered, for instance...
  22. Uhm... why? I\'m not confrontational, I\'d just like to know why. The technical difficulty of making planets moddable depends on what kind of code Harv and the others will use for creating them: basically, to make a planet you\'d need a way to load custom shaders that draw the surface and the elevation map, the other stuff like orbital and atmospheric data is just some variables in a text file. Outside of this technical problem (which might very well be hard), what would be the cons?
  23. Neither did the Russians http://www.astronautix.com/lvs/ur700.htm Well, some of them. Unfortunately, because of those who couldn\'t see its Kerbal magnificence, this one never flew... Oh, and it used crossfeed fuel pipes and drop tanks, and was intended (also) for a direct-ascent Lunar mission. Totally 0.13 compliant.
  24. I\'ll just leave this here.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean_planet
